Sat - #6 - 4.12 - Got good and muddy behind the local high school, and even managed to stay on my feet. I went to the gym with my wife that night too, and lifted for the first time in almost two years. DOMS is AWESOME!
Sun - #7 - 3.53
Mon - #8 - 2.29

Run #519

Glad to see everyone still at it.
Been tough keeping the miles up this winter, we are still having below zero temps and now the sidewalks are ice covered.

I hear you, we are getting the cold again here as well. At least some of the snow is gone after the little warm up we just had.

Day 824, 3.26 miles. My body feels like a train wreck, not sure if it is from the killer speed work I had last week or if I ramped up to quick from the 100 miler. My right arch is sore, my lower back has been sore for a week now, my left glute and knee are acting up. If I feel better tomorrow I will do a few more miles than today but if not I will take it easy for a few days until I am feeling a bit better.

#491- 3 mi- did 2 miles increasing between 4% to 6% grade at 7.5 mph. According to a table in Jack Daniels book, the Vo2 cost is between a 6:27 mi to a 5:53 mi. I probably am going to work some high % grade running into my speedwork inside. Cant really get out to the track this time of year, and I get too nervous running 11-12 mph on the treadmill. I also did my 20 minute threshold test on my bike earlier in the day.

#492- 6.2 mi progression. Another solid run. 42 min 10 sec. Averaged 6:35 min/mi for 5.2 mi after 1 mi warmup. Also had a solid swim workout beforehand. I wasn't expecting it when I rolled out of bed this morning, but had a solid day of training in the end.

I will bring down the intensity tomorrow, hopefully go for nice leisurely jog.

Day 826, 3.3 miles. I am feeling better but I had a few to many beers last night and needed to be near a bathroom which is why I only ran 3.3. I am tapering though so no big deal and I am trying not to get so caught up in running big miles every day this year. I want that sub 3:20 marathon and need more speed work to get there. I can not get the quality speed work in running 100 mile per week, this old body just will not allow it to happen.

#493- 5 mi after quality swim session, kept the run low effort, was pretty wiped out
#494- 2 mi, was going to use tomorrow as recovery day, bumped it up to today. Was tired, didn't sleep well last night. Had a few leg cramps also. I actually have swam 5 of the last 8 days. That is a big jump in volume for me. I needed the rest.

Day 827, speed work today, I had a nice 11.1 mile progressive run. The first mile was at an 8:17 pace and the 11th mile was at a 7:00 pace. A 7:47 overall pace.

Monday - #211 - 4 miles
Tuesday - #212 - 4 miles, speed work intervals
Wednesday - #213 - 4 miles

Been a little under the weather this week. Had planned on going 6 miles yesterday, and felt pretty good until about 3. Then quickly decided my 4 would be enough.

#495- 10 mi tempo run. Solid pace. Not sure what I had in me after a tough 70 minute threshold workout on the bike. Good confidence builder for my HIM in 7 weeks.

#214 - Thursday - 6 miles

Somehow got motivated, and followed that with a 2.5Ky in the pool, and then went home and did an hour of Trainer Road.

Nice work out.

Day 828, 8.9 miles. This bitter cold can go away anytime until next winter. Despite the bitter cold this month I still managed to run 302.14 miles although over 100 of that was in Florida.

I am thinking about buying a new bike and start training for some triathlons again seeing how I have only done one, an Olympic distance. This time I will buy a road bike though instead of a tri bike and probably used as well. If you know of any nice deals for a good road bike size 51-54 let me know. I prefer sram group but if the price is right I will go shimano.

I am with you on the cold. Last year I remember one run at single digits. This year there has been weeks in single digits, and some negative.

And regarding training for triathlon, I have this race on my mind to do. It is a bit out of the way, but I'd like to do it one of these years. There are just so many great races out there.

Both kids sick, and they got me sick too. Hoping for a quick recovery, but already on my 3rd day. Keeping the streak, but shut down all other training for now.

Run #526

Anyone know how to keep a cellphone from shutting down in cold weather. Last Saturday the windchill was in the -20's. My wife was wondering why I wasn't home yet, so she checked the Road ID app only to see my phone had shut down over an hour ago.
I had 2 jackets on and it was in the pocket of my inside jacket.

Also have the iphone. I have read that this can happen in the cold. Might have to try putting it in a wool sock next time it gets that cold.

#500- 11 mi

Still sick, coughed for 2 hours straight last night. Took some ibuprofen, felt decent. 2 mile warm up then alternated 8:00 min/mi with 6:40 min/mi. Body felt good since I've only ran 6 miles in the last 3 days and have done no other training. My chest feels like there is an angry wolverine living in there. But I've got no fever, and don't think I'm getting any worse.

Also registered for a 13.1 and hoping to go sub 1:30 on 4/13, and then I have my HIM on 5/4. I also claimed my guaranteed entry for the NYC marathon so that is something I am looking forward to.

Glad you are doing better. I think we will still have snow on the ground in May.
Would love to do NY marathon but they are making it harder to get into now.
