Still sick, coughed for 2 hours straight last night. Took some ibuprofen, felt decent. 2 mile warm up then alternated 8:00 min/mi with 6:40 min/mi. Body felt good since I've only ran 6 miles in the last 3 days and have done no other training. My chest feels like there is an angry wolverine living in there. But I've got no fever, and don't think I'm getting any worse.

Also registered for a 13.1 and hoping to go sub 1:30 on 4/13, and then I have my HIM on 5/4. I also claimed my guaranteed entry for the NYC marathon so that is something I am looking forward to.

Glad you are starting to feel better. NYC is on my list of marathons to run. Good luck on the sub 1:30 half.

I do all this running to bleed off some of the boundless energy the dog has. She's home asleep, but I have to be at work. Something's not fair here.

Sounds like my dog. Then at night when I finally sit down, he jumps on my lap and wants to go for his evening walk.

Lumberdad I hove no idea about the phone, I do not carry mine very often when I run but the few I have in the bitter cold it has never shut down. I have an iphone, what phone do you have.

Also have the iphone. I have read that this can happen in the cold. Might have to try putting it in a wool sock next time it gets that cold.
I wonder if putting it in a pocket with either a disposable or reusable hand warmer type of thing might work? I'm a wimp who runs inside on the treadmill in the cold, so I don't have any experience, but those things have worked for my hands in other situations, they may keep the phone operational.

Monday - #218 - 4 miles
Tuesday - #219 - 4.5 miles speed work - .5 mile warmup, then 8x .25 fast, .25 recovery. I had already swam 2.5Km and then sat in the hot tub with a friend for close to an hour, so my core temp was way up. I usually jog my recoveries, but I was very much overheating so I walked the recoveries and felt disgusted with myself the entire time.

All batteries typically drain faster when they are cold. Also, I believe older batteries grow crystals inside which limits the charge they can hold. Add to that, if your phone is a generation or two behind, an updated OS may drain your battery faster.

Make sure it's fully charged, close out all unnecessary apps, turn off bluetooth (unless you use a HR strap), turn off most push notifications, set your email to check manually, reboot right before you go out, and try to keep it somewhere on your person that is warm.

#501- 2 mi.

I probably was a bit overzealous yesterday. My 24 week training plan was supposed to start this week for IMMT, and I felt some of my other races getting closer, so I just refused to acknowledge that I was sick.

I've heard it many times that if you have a fever or its below the neck, rest. I ignored that, and paid for it I think. Last night was terrible, I barely slept, and I almost considered going to the doctor this morning. I haven't gone to the doctor for an illness in my adult life. After I got up and moving, I felt better, but I am on day 5 of illness, and besides once that I had the flu in 2008, I generally don't get sick that long. Got my fingers crossed that tonight goes better, and that I get on the road to recovery.

I feel your pain, I am feeling under the weather too but I always feel a bit better after my run. I am hoping mine is out of me by next weekend because I have a marathon in North Carolina. Get well soon.

It's not actually a low battery problem that is shutting the phone down. Most current phones actually have temperature sensors on them to shut them down in extreme situations. The iPhone definitely does. If you leave it in the sun in your car in the summer, you'll return to it to find it shut down with a temp warning.

Feeling even worse today but still managed my fastest mile ever today. 5:58 and another one at 5:59. First time ever under the 6 minute mile mark. Day 834, 7.8 miles with three 1 miles intervals. I still feel like crap but glad I got the work in.

Just make sure it doesn't get into your chest. I did another 2 miles, and my chest just hurts when I breathe. Legs feel ready to go, and I am actually not really run down feeling at this point. But I am still coughing a lot.

Nice times though, you should register for a 5k and get a nice PR.

#502- 2 lung searing miles, I think I am starting a new streak, how many days ill. #6 as of today!!

I wasn't aware, but that makes it simple. I'd put it in a ziplock to keep out the moisture and put it as close to your body as is convenient.

#18 - 3.19 - Battling a cold. I'm ready for the snow to be gone and the ground to dry out a little. It will double the number of miles of road and trail I have available.

This is what is happening, after I get home I can turn the phone back on and it has a charge. I am going to have to remember the hand warmer for next year, sure hope we are done with that kind of weather for this season.

Sorry to hear it. Just a bad time of year I guess. I am finally pulling out of it, still hacking up all sorts of goodies, but other than that, I feel good. I haven't gotten sick like that since 2008 where I got hit with a wicked flu, actually the flu was much worse, not sure how I would have streaked through that.

#503- 4 mi. Decent pace, I didn't bring my watch though, I just wanted to go by feel and see how it would go. Did 2 miles easy, 2 miles hard.

Thanks, I do not get sick very often either. Everyone in my house has been sick on and off all winter long and I thought I was going to avoid but nouch luck this year. At least it happened during taper so I will be even more rested than I would have been as long as the crud is out of me by next Sunday, race day.

Day 836, 2.2 easy miles. Feeling a little better but did not want to push it. Hopefully I will be able to get my 13 miles in tomorrow, I hate cutting long runs shorts even 13 is not really that long.

#504- 3.2 mi. Only 26 miles this week, I planned on going out for 7 to at least make it an even 30. That bothers me considering I am racing in 5 weeks. I did an hour ride, nothing intense really, then tried to run. Emphasis on "tried." I was angry that I was still feeling worn out from the last week of illness, and the fact that I didn't have the energy to ride hard today, so I went out for a two mile warm up at about 8 mi/mi. Then ran an angry 6:19 mile, and then just jogged it in, it just was not my day.

I know with this sport you have good days and bad, this one goes down as worse than bad. Even on bad days I can get through a session.

Looking on the bright side of things. I am still a ways out from the season really getting going, so if I am going to be out of commission any time this year, now is better than later.

Threw my back out on Saturday morning.
#19 - My 1 mile minimum
#20 - My 1 mile minimum
#21 - Feeling good, so I ran a slow and ill-advised 2.5. The back is acting up again.
