vibratingp00 - 2010-01-30 11:02 AMTime for a long run...in the snow.  Hopefully its not too bad out.

(just trying to get a little talk going...)
how was it? I'm going out for a real short snow run now.

My snow run was actually pretty good.  When I started, there was about 2 inches of fresh snow.  I ran slow, making sure I didnt slip or fall.  It was actually pretty relaxing, there was no on out on the trail, so it was nice.  By the time I got back home, there was probably another inch or two of snow.

And of course, after I was done running, I slipped crossing the street to get back to my apartment.  Im hoping that Im not hurting tomorrow.

Howd it go for you?

Yesterday was my "off day", the girls in my running group have been trying to meet up Saturday morning for an 8am run but none of them seem too truly be up for it...so I weighed in and a 2.2 pound weight loss and came home. Took care of the violently ill boyfriend and relaxed.

Today I'm hitting the gym for a swim and some elliptical/stair master cross-training. Think there may be a master's swim program at my gym's pool now. There was something up on the calendar last week so I'll check to see if there are any other dates to confirm and inquire about it to get some swim help. I love swimming but I'm a horrible swimmer!! My swim experience is synchronized swimming so I don't think a "flamingo" formation will really help me in the HIM..LOL

Hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Hey All,
logs look good.  The flu got me so I've been off the computer for the weekend.  Hope to be back 100% by Tuesday.

snow was more annoying than anything. I just did a short run after my trainer ride and I did not practice good nutrition and bonked too...no fun. Damon - sorry to hear. Hopefully you get better soon. On that note though, I've had conflicting advice on when it's ok to workout when you're sick. Mostly though, I've heard that if it's not affecting you below your head it's ok to workout (but use caution). What do you think of that advice?

Damon - sorry to hear the flu bug got you! Hopefully it's only a mild case and you won't be quarantined at home sucking down Tamiflu or Relenza! I had a friend out of work and stuck at home for almost 2 weeks then out of commission from running for over a month. Make sure you get plenty of rest and fluids!

I'm hoping to make it to the gym for a swim tonight but have to bring boyfriend to a doctor's appt today. Late last night his ankle began swelling and giving him pain so much he's unable to walk or put any pressure on it. I'm a little worried so I nagged him to call his doctor and get in to be seen!

ok - feeling better thanks for the well wishes.  Personally, I use my body being sick to tell me to just stop altogether and heal vs dragging it out by working out being sick.  Makes my recovery time quicker.

Well I finally did it, yesterday after my workout on the stationary, I weighed myself and I was 199 pounds flat.  Last Sept. i was around 220-225, with a huge beer belly.  Now its a six pack, I just want to say thanks to everyone here in the group by helping me get here through your supportive comments!  My next goal is to get to around 195-190 and stay there.

Snowed again here last night. Only a few inches but hear that we're going to get blasted this weekend with about 20 inches. I hope that's wrong, this is ridiculous! Ran for a short distance last night in the snow then went to the gym to hit the pool but they had some school program going on which was not part of the schedule.

This morning we had a delay in work opening so no spin class but a last minute class was added at 11:45 so I got a spin in today! Quite happy. Actually felt like I might be getting stronger so I hope so!

Tizon - congrats on the weight loss!! (And the six pack) Keep up the good work!

No kidding! My mother called this morning and started laughing when she said that the local weatherman has talked about the storm we were getting forecast for Maryland and he said it was a "doozy". So you KNOW if a Maine weatherman is saying that...it's probably going to be big. So people are beginning to panic and work is busy today but I'm still going to get at least a run in today. I've got an appointment to start back up with a trainer Monday to get some strength training in once a week and maybe another day on my own. This weekend will probably consist of shoveling, shoveling...and, oh yeah, shoveling.

How's everyone doing with this weather we are having.  I finally got a chance to run 8 miles in the snow/light sleet on Saturday, but was held to the trainer today.  Anyone that is doing the HR training see any changes?  It might be a little early to tell, but if you are seeing something good or bad let us know.  I have an insane week coming up, but I promise I will check at least once a day for any comments/feedback you might have/need.

is anyone else having trouble with overtraining. I find by the end of the week I am dragging. Last night I skipped Yoga because my Husband wasn't going to go I can't remember the last time I skipped a workout because no one would go with me. And this is only winter maitanaice. How will I manage when I have to add on the miles.

I do have a Half marathon in two weeks, a full Marathon in may and the Half Ironman In Aug. How will I servive.

Sorry, no problem with overtraining as this is my first day out of the house and back to work in a week! My training consisted of shoveling, shoveling and shoveling. I'm hitting the gym tonight for some cardio.

Wait, I lied, I did get out of the house Monday before the 2nd storm hit. I was trying to find snowshoes but everyone is sold out. Thought that would be a great leg workout if I couldn't run outside. Ordered some online but not sure if the UPS man can even reach my house! Was supposed to have a meeting with my new trainer Monday night to go over goals, etc but he couldn't make it so I did 35 minutes on the elliptical. I'm heading back to the gym tonight. My gym finally got a stair climber and some new treadmills so I'll see if maybe I can do some speedwork and some climbing for some leg work. My back is sore from all the shoveling with I'm sure a bad form and stance. So I'll make sure I review core work with my trainer.

We're getting more snow Sunday night..right now they're calling for up to 6 inches but one forecaster said he really thought there would be more....GREAT!!!

Are you pushing yourself to exhaustion at every training session or are you keeping a slow and steady base?  Remember, this is not build or peak time yet.  Do you have a plan that looks at periodization and lets you track your plan/training and results?  Over training usually comes from folks that 1.  Have too aggressive of a base training plan(duh) and folks that really don't have a plan at all.  They just think they have to swim, bike and run a whole bunch to be better racers. Also, with overtraining comes injuries.
