Jenna,  What wheels did you say you have again?  How old are they?

In regard to your stubble comment, it's weird, but I've never had that problem with my legs.  My neck always gets itchy when I grows back.....but never the legs.

Honestly, from a female's perspective, what do you think of guys that shave.  This question goes for all the lady's in the goup, or people with male partners.  Whichever.

gti123 - 2011-04-25 5:20 PMQuestion regarding level of effort during workouts.  I am not training with a heart rate monitor now (don't feel at my current level I would benefit that much from using one - just one more thing to confuse me and worry about). I am currently following the BT Oly Tri training program 2 workouts of S/B/R each week, 1 'short' and 1 'long' workout.  What level of effort (on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the easiest effort, 10 being the most/hardest effort) would your short and long workout be?  I find myself having a hard time taking it easier on the long workouts especially on the bike - probably because I feel that is my weakest link.
As to your question regarding the bike, I would work very hard during all of those rides. At least from the perspective of training value. Sometimes you just want to enjoy the process and that may mean taking it easy and smelling the roses. With only 2 days each week invested in running, and assuming you aren't yet an accomplished runner, I would tend not to run fast at all.

Honestly, I would think my husband shaving for triathlon was a bit weird. But my husband does not compete in any sports at all anymore and so I don't have to live with that kind of intensity. I guess if you feel passionately that it will help your performance, at least it is cheaper than buying a ton of carbon aerodynamic powermeter gadgets.

The wheels say Pro Aerohead on them and have Continental tires. I have no idea how old they are but my bike is a 2004 and they came with the bike. Here is a picture.

The family is heading back east to Chillicothe, Ohio to visit family (Tue-Sat). I'm worried about not getting many workouts in. It's always crazy, plus my gma is really sick. I am hope to at least get a run in.

I'm off the grid until then!

Ive been to Chilli many times.  I moved from Zanesville almost 24 years ago to take my job with AEP.  I did some ice storm restoration work in Chilli about Jan 2009.

I'm on full taper so I hope I'm doing it ok.  I cut my long run down to 8 last weekend and I just did 4, 4 and 4 s/M/T, with some strides and some race pace miles.

I biked Sunday and I'm doing an easy bike today, then I'm done with biking until post race.  I'm planning a full rest day tomorrow and two easy runs Thursday and Friday and we'll see how Saturday goes.

Saturday is the day to open up the summer camp (YEEEEHHAAWWW) so I doubt I'll get any training in.

I would make the assumption that they were built by prowheelbuilder.com  If they spin true, I'm sure they are worth $350.  I would push $400 if it were me, but they are a bit older.  If you just want to get rid of them, that's definitely a fair price.

I'm definitely not shaving my legs to boost my performance, so let's not pretend for one second that it does....I'm not looking to shave 0.001 off my swim time here.  I'm just trying to be a bada$$.  :-)  Interesting way to do it.

Awesome, Warren, where is your camp?!  I can't wait to get up to camp this year.  We have a cabin/camp on lake champlain in VT right around where I grew up.  Nice and peaceful.

Sorry, those are completely foreign to me. I'm positive they are durable and a 'value' wheel. But I can't draw any other conclusions. My intuition thinks your price is fair considering the tires are included.

Looks like I'll be getting an extra run workout today instead of a bike ride.  I'll run in the rain.  I'll only intentionally ride in the rain if it's a race.  In fact it's unlikely I'll get a bike ride in at all this week because of the weather.  Oh the joys of living in Arkansas during thunderstorm and tornado season.

Has anybody bought bike shoes. I'm debating triathlon shoes vs road bike shoes. I know about making transitions easier and such but I could still use a tri shoe for long distance ride? I know they're ventilated better so in cold weather I could just get booties. I also want to get the setup so I don't need socks for triathlon. Do you think size will matter if I ride sockless i.e. will I need a half size smaller? Has anybody run into these questions before?

Are you planning to flying mount/dismount in the tri shoes? The only reason I ask is because I actually went with MTB shoes in my first season of tris because the SPD clips were interior and the shoe could be walked in like normal. It made mounting/dismounting with the bike in races much easier because I could just unclip and run in my shoes without worrying about either a fancy dismount or gingerly tiptoeing around my cleats.

This year I have road bike shoes and don't love them. I think I will end up with new ones before the end of the season.

I can't speak to sockless because I need socks to run. Although with all the blister problems I've been having lately, maybe I should give it a try...

The cottage is on one of the islands on Lake Winnipesaukee.  That's why Timberman is my A race - it's my weekend ride all summer!

I did a short run tonight because I haven't been able to get my planned short run/brick workout done for several weeks.  I have been planning a Saturday schedule to get my long ride in and then running 2-3 miles immediately after but I have been pressed for time and had out of town family come in without notice.

Also, I was planning a swim for tonight but I had to take my daughter to an Orthopod because she has been having some shin, ankle, foot issues during her track practices this season.  I have been trying to treat everything as overuse/overtraining and my wife hasn't wanted to cave in to my thoughts and advice.  he doc did x rays and found nothing to lead him to any evidence other than overuse....  He recommended seeing a PT and ge the irritation under control.  I have to laugh a little bit knowing my wife has to eat a little crow because I was right.  I have to laugh, I can't say I was right very often.

Yup...you can still use a tri shoe for long distances.  I use mine barefoot up to 65-70 miles.  Now as far as size goes...it will depend on the shoe that you get.  I sized down in Sidis, but sized up for my new Bontrager's.  I would try them on sockless.  If you end up wanting to wear socks, they will just be a bit more snug.  And when it's cold out, you'll need to wear socks and booties as well.  Hope this helps.

It has been a conspiracy of late to keep me out of the pool.

First they were closed Friday to Monday for Easter ( Baptist University pool) then Monday night I show up to swim and pool was closed for a lifeguard meeting.

Why they couldn't meet in the 4 days they were closed I don't know.

Last night after class we had Tornadoes so hitting the pool didn't seem like the best idea.

But dang it nothing is keeping me out of the water tonight!

88 days until my Sprint.

my pool was closed for good Friday but opened on Saturday, they are always closed on Sunday, but if they hadn't been opened I wouldn't have gotten both of my swim done last week.  I have all kinds of trouble just trying to get 2 swims in a week because they have jacked up lane times for lap swimmers (other than club swimmers).  Sometimes they will schedule the lanes to close 15 minutes before another activity to relocate 3 lane lines for swimming lessons.  The lines never go in or out of the water just move to open a larger area without lane line.  They just bundle the lines together and catch them at the anchors on each end.  Aggravating!

Whoa...tornado???  Crazy talk!  I myself had a good swim tonight 2450..set's of 400's for the most part.  averaging about 1:31.  Felt pretty good about that....and I spent the entire afternoon de-thatching my lawn, so my arms were pretty tired.  I'm learning to kick a lot more.

1:31 is pretty impressive!  Sounds like a good swim.  I need to get my daughter in the pool with me soon and try to pace a 500 with her for a little while.  I figure she can make me push harder for a TT than I will do if I am by myself.  I am looking to hit 7:00 for a TT during the month of May.

You know you could have bought a thatching blade for your lawn mower and saved your arms and a lot of time.  I still need to spray my lawn to kill the RAPIDLY expanding number of dandelions in my yard.  We have been getting so much rain and wind that if I tried to spray, my neighbors would get more from my efforts than I would myself.

Whoa whoa whoa...you can buy a thatching blade?  have you used one of those?  Can you get one for a push mower?  I would think that a blade spinning that fast would tear a ton of good grass out.  My lawn doesn't look that bad at all and I'm pulling a TON of dead grass out with this rake.
