I tend to do most of my races out of town so I don't have the luxury of a home cooked meal.  Plus we don't get out to eat much so it becomes kind of an "occasion" when I have a race.  I did book a Marriott Residence Inn for IMWI with a kitchen so I can cook my own meals.

KeriKadi - 2012-01-06 6:00 PM

I am always surprised when people always eat out the night before - I know somebody that always goes to PF Changs. We eat out regularly but I would not trust a restaurant with my pre-race meal. I've gotten sick off Macaroni Grill, Olive Garden, TGIFridays, Chili's, Outback etc. it just happens. I can control more at home. I guess I'm quirky when it comes to dinner the night before.

GOOD LUCK TODAY MARY!

A friend of mine started a pre-race ritual that we do before every race we do together.  We go to the start, and then jump up and down, and count down from 3, then yell in each others' faces.  It really gets the adrenaline pumping (and scares away the butterflies!) before a race.  (I have attached a picture of this wonderful ritual, thanks to Anna's mom.Laughing

Kevin- Good luck with curling today!

I overslept and missed masters, so now I am waiting till the pool at UWM opens this afternoon to get my swim in, then doing my half-marathon circuit after a quick bite to eat.

Happy Training/Racing/Curling today!

Heather- Welcome!  Nice to see a fellow soccer athlete on here!  I am awake still b/c I just got home from an indoor soccer game.  I scored a goal and had an assist, so it was a good night. Laughing

IceMan- You're in Illinois and a Packer fan??  Awesome!  I went to grad school at Illinois, so it was a rough two years for me.  Plus, as I mentioned the in-laws are all Bears fans.  But we keep it fun.  I did Racine for the first time last year, and loved it.  (minus the 100 degree heat this year).

Well, goodnight...gotta get a swim and half-marathon circuit (run, lift, run, lift, etc.) tomorrow am!

My mom's parents were from Fond du Lac.  I love Winnebago.  In my family you were either Packers or Bears and Vince Lombardi and Bart Starr were way more fun that George Halas and Bobby Douglas.

SEs this morning for 90 mins, then a run.  It is going to be near 50 today in Central Illinois in early January.  Unbelievable.

Pre-race Ironman we ate at a local burger place the night before.  For breakfast, I got up at 2 a.m. and ate a waffle sandwich made with banana and peanut butter.  I'd started drinking water and using electrolyte pills a week before.  Still wasn't enough electrolyte to get by with only Perpetuleum and Endorolyte powder in my bike bottles.  Plenty of cals, just had cramps at mile 80 and on to the run.  Going to try Salt Stick next.  Higher content.

Got my ride in thank to Myles sleeping in the swing!  Now I can enjoy the rest of my day and not have that weighing on me.  I am digging this Garmin bike cadence/speed sensor.  It appears that it syncs with my heart rate to calculate effort and give me a pretty accurate speed/distance on the trainer.

Scott - My place up in Wisconsin is actually just outside of Oshkosh and we drive through Fond Du Lac all the time.  We are on Lake Poygan which is on the Winnebago lake system.  Just absolutely love it up there.  I get some great open water swim practice and great open roads for biking and running.

Keri - What exactly is hot yoga? I ahve heard alot people talking about that lately.

Jenny - Love the pre-race routine.  Now you'll have to yell RFP!!!  Also forgot to mention that that video you posted for IMWI was awesome.  I got butterflies in my stomach when they we showing the athletes getting ready at dusk.  Gonna use that video alot for inspiration.

Thanks for all the well wishes!!!

1. Came in at 2:09:55. Goal was 2:15, but really was 2:10 so I'm happy! (especially since I was undertrained!)

2. Niezels I can relate. I realized after the race that my left sock was inside out. Huge blister on 3rd toe.

3. Totally used RFP on the big hill!!!! I rocked that incline.

4. I. Am. Beat. Was tough to open a jar of pills.

Good Job Mary!

My daughters and I had a great day in the woods today.  While I did not get quite the 2 hour workout I could have had they not come along, it was totally worth it.  We collected 9 of the 30 checkpoints.  But got wet and muddy, and laughed a lot through it all.

Brian - have you checked out the group IAMTRI.com ?  They have a great IM louisville group that works together to train and help each other out.  It may not be that important to you since you live there and know the course, but I found it to be incredibly valuable.

Hello all! We're cruising somewhere in the Atlantic and are heading back to Port Canaveral. Will be home tomorrow and am looking so forward to sleeping in my own bed after a very long cruise!

I have my Vision Quest class on Monday night. Lasts weeks about did me in...what a great wake up call!

I start my training with my coach on Monday, too! I'm looking forward to it, as I've been looking at my self in the mirror and got on a scale! Yikes, I've got 20 pounds to lose! I keep telling myself it will "fall" off after training starts...then I just head to the buffett on the ship!

Have a great night!
Theresa

BTW, I just "previewed" my post and I have no idea why everything is centered. Probably has something to do with our satellite....strange things happen out here!

Mary, way to go!

I had a great fun brick today.  Hill repeats on the CT for 90 mins and a 4 mile run with hill repeats.  Yoga and stretching.  I am having so much damn fun so far.  3 hours on the CT tomorrow.

Hey Guys,

The 5k time was 25:16 on a treadmill.  At the end I realized I had a little more in me but this is a good number for now.  Today I did 2 sets of 8.8 miles.  I'm going to cut back to about 12 next weekend then 22 the following weekend.  Back to 12 the next weekend then its the marathon weekend.  I can do a marathon now but I'm glad to have a few more weeks.

BTW I've registered for all my events.  They are:  2.12 marathon; 3.12 10k/40k/10k duathalon; 4.12 ironman n.o. 70.3; 5.12 local olympic; 6.12 century ride; 7.12 ironman triathlon camp over the weekend in guntersville al; 8.12 local olympic; 9.12 nothing scheduled; first week of 10.12 is a local half iron; nov. 18 ironman arizona.  Funny that all the other events didn't add up to as much as IMAZ.  Got a bunch of discounts for registering early. Nice!

Allright, so, I'm having some problems getting in the mood to bike.  My computrainer keeps looking at me with these sad puppydog eyes.  Last night I even went to the Y and rode on one of their recumbent bikes for an hour.  Pretty good workout and relaxing at the same time.  Needed to be sipping on a cup of hot tea reading the New York Times,  Very chill indeed.  But tomorrow is a 2 hour ride and computrainer is getting testy, growling a bit...

Talk to yall soon,

Bearun

Great job Mary!

Got out for a really good 26 mile ride today. I've done this ride of varying distances several times and this is the first time I didn't feel like death on the way back. Had a negative ride which is great for me at my current bike fitness so that feels great for my first day of Oly training!

Hot yoga is yoga in a room of at least 90 degrees. Much harder than you would think and lots of sweat, dripping. The class I take is different from Bikrim yoga which is in a 100+ degree room where they do the same sequence of poses each time. My class is different each time and varies greatly with different instructors. I started yoga because I am very tight especially in the hamstrings and have wanted to work on my flexibility for years. I got with a girlfriend and take 5:30am classes.

3 1/2 more hours before I can post my favorite songs. It is a bonus to live here. I went for a long ride to have dinner with some friends. Ended up with a 62 Miles (100K) ride with only a head wind. Keeping dat at a Z1 effort was harder then I thought.

Overall happy with my workouts this week. Though I started with to skips earlier in the week I was able to compensate it by doing the ride today. And overall very excited with every workout I get to do.

Now it is Play off time!! sweet @Keri: Congrats with the first postseason win of the Texans (Go Foster!!)

I am SORE.  My coach leads what she calls the TriFaster challenge on Sunday mornings- it's a 80 minute bike workout she leads, followed by 60 minutes of circuit training using different strength and aerobic exercises.  The bike portion today was strength focused, and the circuits were very challenging.  Given I was already sore from the half marathon circuit yesterday, it was very challenging to keep up with everything today!

Last night I met up with some friends- a good friend turned 30 on Wednesday, and it's my turn on Saturday, so we watched some football and had a glass of wine at her house, then they all headed out to a bar- I was a good little triathlete and went home and to bed so I could get up this morning to train.

Hey Team.

Home from the curling event safe and sound. We lost this morning in the semi-finals of the B flight - long story short, the team curled well and we lost a heart breaker this morning 6-5 in the last end.

I did not expect to get any workouts in when I was away but our break between games yesterday afforded me a chance to get on the tread mill at the hotel for 30 minutes so I did. I needed it because at these events there is a lot of partying going on and a lot of food being consumed.

Currently, I am sitting on my couch thinking I may go for a nice 60 minute ride on the trainer and watch this Denver - Pitt matchup.

Tomorrow, winter semester starts so this week is going to be busy at the college.

I have not looked at all the posts yet but I did see Mary had a great race - nice job Mary.

I will take a look and chime in before bed tonight or sometime tomorrow.

Coach - hope you are having fun in sun in FLA.

Be safe everyone.

KC

It's Music Monday!!!

So my song is of a lady from the states who just got her first single in some European charts. This songs was written by her in reaction to not being able to hit the charts and acknowledge that her "simple" live with her boyfriend is actual quite good. Funny note about the clip. Although it looks like an all american clip it has two shots that were made in the netherlands.

For me this clip has been the ultimate fall sound of 2011. And as winter has not kicked in yet over here, the fall vibes are still applicable over here .

The song: Lana del Rey - Video Games

Have fun training!

First time checking in for a few days.  Great weather in Louisville this weekend so I had no desire to even look at my computer.  Met up with some friends Saturday morning for a 8 mile run then my first outdoor bike ride in what seems like forever followed up with a 2 mile run.  3 Cheers for Global Warming!!!

@Brian:  I am a member of IamTri already and have been following along with the group.  They have several group rides planned throughout the year which I am planning to participate in.  However, my Wife is beginning to waffle on me doing IM Louisville so I am still in a holding pattern.  I did put together my training plan to sync up with my planned spring running and sprint tri's eventually building to IM in August.  As of now I am just moving forward under the assumption she will cave at some point...

ETA:  I posted my training plan that began last week and builds to IM on my blog if you would like to look at.  I am very thick skinned so feedback good or bad is much appreciated.  Thanks.

Went for a ride with 2 friends this afternoon.  It was a gorgeous 60 degrees outside and sunny.  We had planned on 20 miles, but only did about 14 because 2 of us are sick and coughing up lung muffins all day.  So much for breathing.  It was quite hilly, so it was still a pretty decent workout for us newbies.  It sure does help to have friends who do this tri stuff with me!
