7.5 mi this morning. ~2miles of warm-up & cooldown for a local 5k. And the 5k itself. I'm just calling it two for the day. And only one of these hit the 20 min mark.

it's 2 miles OR 20 mins minimum...so that is 2 runs for the day...Nice Job.

Day 22 was miserable.  Not because of the legs...because I have not gotten much sleep the last 2 days.  I was exhausted on my run, and my mind was playing tricks on me.  It was tough to just keep going, but I did.

3 miles - 8:30 average pace.  I love that 8:30 is now a "slow" pace for me.    I will be doing my next run in the morning - then getting my "rest day" by waiting until Sunday Night for my run.  Sunday is my long run day, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Have a good weekend everyone.  Keep up the awesome work - and feel free to post how this streak has affected your running overall and lessons learned during the streak.

Yes, I saw. Just wanted to point this out.

And the streak is actually what I want to be doing. Consistent running every day has been fantastic for my development. Keep pushing to do more. Keep pushing to make the hard days faster. But never so much of either that running the next day is a chore. Great for balancing how much running stress I should be applying.

Day Twenty One.   An easy 4.5 miles.

I'm loving the progress I'm seeing. I'm striding better, my pace is faster at a lower heart-rate.

It occurred to me at the end of the run today "that's it?  I'm done already?".  It wasn't that long ago that a 4.5 mile run would seem long, but now it's not feeling like anything more than just a casual jaunt.

I've got a 10k race in the morning.... I'll see then how the improvements are really coming along.

Injured and out Cry Unbearable pain in my outside left ankle and radiating into my outer foot every time I impact . Brings tears to my eyes if I even try to jog to the mailbox, 50 ft from my front door. Walking is fine. Cycling doesn't bother it at all. It has been this painful for 5 days now.

Any ideas, my runner friends, of what is going on? I was running ~3-4 mi/day. 8:15-8:30pace. This flared up after 13 days of running. I had previously only been running 2 days/week. I have the sinking suspicion it is just a too-much-too-fast injury. Any suggestions or remedies are welcome at this point.

Man am I bummed out.

I think you answered your own question.  It was probably too much of an increase from only 2 days a week to every day. Running puts a huge strain on the body. Its best to slowly increase mileage so your body can adjust.

Batlou - 2012-10-05 7:52 PM I started on Tuesday and plan to finish out the year.  Been taking my dog with me and she is a little out of shape so my runs have been short and pretty slow.  Day 4 Run 4 today.

Welcome aboard.

Not sure how much you were running before attempting this challenge, but please keep in mind that bumping up days, mileage or pace to quickly can lead to injury.  We have had one runner that had to bow out after 13 days due to pain in the foot.  Jumped from 2 days a week to 7....much too much too fast.

Please be careful and listen to your body.  If it's telling you to stop, please stop.  HTFU only goes so far.

I love hearing all the success and the stories of people building their running abilities, but I don't want to think that this challenge that I posted (and Leftbrain approved)  is causing anyone to get injured.

Good luck - and keep up the good work.

The injured person is me - I really thought that my overall fitness level, paired with the fact that I am on my feet ~6 hours a day (teacher), would allow me to jump from 2 to 7 days a week of running. I was wrong and now I am not able to run at all. My foot pain came on in less than 24 hours. One day I was doing great, the next day, not at all. So - be extra careful as you up your mileage. I was loving my daily runs and am very sad that I can't do them right now. Next time, I will take it slower. Listen to your body and don't let your desire to complete the challenge overshadow your instinct.

For running, I think of HTFU as predominantly for mental toughness. To get you out the door when you feel like sitting around. NOT for pushing yourself hard physically. Do not push yourself through pain. If your body needs the break then take it. You need a lot of running in before you get that type of feel, so play it cautious. It will likely take a couple years of consistent running to really hone it in.

31 in 23 days. Am I done now? And goodness, does splitting runs up ever increase volume fast, wow! Have to watch this carefully. With so many runs, adding a few minutes to a run here and there really adds up fast. We all know this, but even with as meticulate as I am, it can still sneak up on me. So everyone else should know to be mindful as well.

I hear you.... three weeks ago, I jumped up to 25 miles when I started doing this.  The week after that, I started going a little longer on a few runs and before I knew it I had logged 33 miles.  This past week I logged 41, and I will likely do another 40 this week.

It definitely piles up quickly.

Did 100 on the bike yesteday at 39 degree start, it rained, sleeted, hailed, headwind both directions, and my derailleur got stuck in one gear about 35 miles from the finish! It was great!

24 - Awesome run - 8 miles, first time I have ever run that far with all being under 8:00 min pace.

7:27, 7:17, 7:33, 7:59, 7:42, 7:31, 7:35, 7:32

This streak has definitely improved my running abilities.  I was even a little sore during this run...can't wait to see what I do with proper rest days added to my schedule.

One thing you should get out of a streak like this is a better understanding of how to balance out the larger/harder days with the smaller runs between so that you do not need to take a "proper" rest day. You learn to balance the bigger and smaller training loads so that you never go too far, and also keep up the productivity. If you're a little sore, then consider slowing it down some. That's how these guys with 300+ days straight are doing it. Or am I misunderstanding the use of "proper" in this case?

28....and feeling good.

Bikerchick....be careful.....sounds alot like a stress fracture.....go to doc is my advice.

I took the brakes off a bit today and did 3 in 26:30....still very slow, but a bit faster that my 10:00 pace. My "sometimes fast" is much slower than it used to be....and I'm good with it.

This has been an interesting experience......trying to be a "distance runner" vs. a guy who can run "long distance"......it's a lesson in patience....and I'm determined to learn it.

I'm going 10% longer every 14 days......10% faster every 14 runs.  It's tedious.....but I have had no PR flareup...so onward and upward I go.
