jhouse4 - 2013-04-17 8:56 AM Training is going... I know its early but I am far from feeling invincible. Had a couple medical setbacks and just looking for a finish now.

I feel your pain. I was doing great but maybe a little too great early on; early February I hit the wall. I also gave up Coffee for Lent - I wanted it to be a meaningful sacrifice, you know? - and toss in the winter blues and the proverbial wheels fell off. I don't have medical set backs, so it's not quite the same, but I am having trouble getting it all back together. Good luck with things!

it's going to be a beautiful weekend in the Midwest, taking tomorrow off work to get a head start on the training weekend & have a wedding to attend. This week has been awesome did 4,000 yards today in practice, and great miles on bike/run. Somehow I dropped 6 pounds this week by only eating natural/whole foods, 14 more to race weight & I feel amazing! What's everyone's training look like this weekend? Enjoy the weather

Got a 10 mile run in this morning and this was my first 30 mpw running in a long time. I'm going to get my first outdoor ride this season tomorrow. A planned 50 mile ride with a small group in the morning. If I get that in tomorrow I'll have put a really nice week together. I'll be over 14 hours of training this week, not bad.

Well my first half marathon was a success. I'll put up a race link later when I get home and can type it up. Stayed with the 7:04 pacer till mile 6.25 then I passed him and never looked back. Ended up running a 1:29:29 which is great because I wanted to go under 1:30. I didn't realize how hard that would be until about five days ago just doing the math in my head. My legs are very sore this morning but once we drive home I have a 3-5 hour long bike ride planned in zone 2. Hopefully that will loosen them up. Was 98th out of 6200 people and, 88 out of the men. Learned a lot!

I got my first outdoor ride of the season in on the bike, 48 miles in 3 hours riding up and down the hills of the north shore of Long Island. Beautiful weather today made for a great ride and the hills made for a lot of pain and suffering but much needed work in prep for Wisconsin. Also had some head winds in there as well to make it more challenging. Overall a really good ride for me, need many more of those. A very nice way to wrap up my training week with 14+ hours this week.

Feels great to have my bike back on the road. I"m also recovering from a nasty sinus infection so training has been poor at best. Hope to hit it again tomorrow and have a strong week.

Yesterday I rode the longest I ever have.  71.5 miles.  I learned a very good lesson on nutrition.  Bring MORE!  I bonked at or around the 56 mile mark on the ride.  I only brought 410 calories with me total plus some salt pills.  It was a somewhat worrysome ride after the 60 mile mark.  I though about stopping at my parents place since I go by it otw home but knew if I stopped there I would not want to get back on the bike so I pushed through the last seven miles and made it home.  My garmin said I burned 2k+ calories on the ride so either way "lesson learned".

I guess thats why we do this training thing huh.  To learn how to nail our nutrition down before race day.

Here's the race report from Saturdays half marathon.

Good point about nutrition.  I'm still trying to tweak my nutrition as I've had some serious issues on longer rides and dead legs.

I rode the loop last night and took in 2 bottles of infinit (about 275 calories each) and a full clif bar ~ 240 calories over 3 hours.  That put me at around 260 calories an hour.  From what I read, especially for my size I should be closer to 300-400 calories per hour.

Overall the ride felt great and I felt that I still had a ton left on the legs so it's good to see progress.  They do say that nutrition is the 4th discipline

I was surprised that this race was televised live in Central IL. I went to my Dad's this weekend and watched the race. Pleasant surprise.

Thats cool that they televised it. After we left we had a couple beers at the house and watched a movie on the Badwater ultra. Those athletes make all of the stuff we do seem like childsplay. Next long ride I get in I am going to shoot for 300 calories an hour and see how that goes.

Happy training folks!

Biked easy-like one loop of the IM WI bike course yesterday.  It's probably been over a year at least since I rode it, and I noticed a number of BIG paving improvements!  There's still a couple of areas that suck, but, I won't complain.  There is pea gravel at the end of the nice downhill (I'm thinking it's on Timber Lane to Midtown Rd.).  That is dangerous, so people will need to be on their brakes and their guard before reaching that left veer at the end, otherwise a nasty accident can happen.

There's a lot of painted arrows on the course before the turns, but, I wouldn't truly rely on them.

Here's the bike course map:

3,000 yards this morning & a 2:00 hr ride planned tonight.  at about 12:00-13:30 hours a week.  Working on nutrition both on and off the road.  I am really trying to cut out all processed food, and have found that lara bars are soo good.

Hit a pothole this morning and went down.  I got plenty of road rash, a crushed helmet and a bruised ego.... and a torn up horribly hilly jersey.  Nothing broken on the bike or on me, which is nice.

Glad you are ok! When I was out riding last weekend I noticed all of the potholes and cracks that were long and deep and thought how easy it would be to get caught in one and go down. Bonus that you didn't damage your bike either.

Glad to hear that both you and the bike are alright. I can relate to the road rash I went down in a sprint tri last year in the rain and that is no fun at all. Take care of yourself and feel better.

I got an 11 mile run in this evening. I was hoping to do 13 miles but my legs were just dead tired and there was a loose dog on my route which I passed twice. I figured I better not tempt fate and called it night once I finished my last loop. This is a recovery week for me so the numbers are going to be a little down this week.
