I will be using my chemistry background and sales experience selling specialty chemicals. I am sooo psyched! I will be out in Portland Oregon for about 3 weeks. Anyone know of any good training hills out there??? LOL Congratulations! I love Portland! Have fun up there. Have you ever been? Great place to ride and run. Also to visit breweries. Oh dear lord the breweries. BEER? Did you say BEER? I've never been, totally looking forward to it. I am going to consider renting a bike out there, any suggestions? Tom |

Tom I got Profile Design T3+. Rode on the trainer this morning, definitely better having them put on during my FIT. Last fall I also added an Adamo saddle, so with the aerobars and saddle I'll be fast. That is as soon as my stomach gets out of my way! LOL Tom |

I had originally thought about the T2+ but I ended up going with the T1+ due to concerns over wrist issues. My buddy has T2+ and he says he hasn't had any issues but he is pretty flexible and says he can see how others would experience issues. There's a thread on here somewhere where the same concerns are expressed. Not that they're bad bars, they're very popular and there's a reason for that, just wanted to make sure you are aware. |

Thanks Joe, much appreciated. I have decided the T2+ is too aggressive. I think I will get the T4+ if I can get it for the same price, otherwise it will be the T3+ which I know I can get. I am thinking about a new saddle too do I have it when I do my bike fit. Adamo Breakaway I think. Now to convince the DW... |

I think my efforts of the day, masters swim and a nice 20 mile ride, were somewhat offset by the tremendous amount of pizza I just ate, but that is the way of things I suppose. Love it!! BRING IT!!! I'm just workin' my plan. Glad to be motivating someone!! |

I'm most nervous about the olmpic distance tri in August. That's my A-priority race. In other developments...I start swim lessons tonight. It's a 1 on 2 lesson, once a week for 8 weeks. I think I'm past my fear and panic. I don't even dread going to the pool anymore, which is good. So, I'm hoping that the instructor can just teach me some efficiency. I can probably make some big gains in speed with some changes to my stroke. So says Coach Hubby. We'll see!! Have a good week everyone! Jax |

I'm still having issues with shin splints, aches, pains, hamstring pull, weak glutes, if it's not one thing it's another. I was suppose to do 7 miles today, only did 4 and at 15min/mile I'm very discouraged for my upcoming half. Guess I'll just keep plugging away and hope for the best.
Races for me: March 16 - shramrock 8k in virginia beach March 23 - NC Half Marathon April 6 - smithfield sprint April 20 - muddy buddy April 28 - Girls Run the World Sprint, Raleigh May 4 - expedition everest at Disney June 1 - Warrior Dash June 22 - TriRock Sprint, Philadelphia, maybe June 29 - Biggest Loser 5k with the family, WV Probably a couple other sprints in September but nothing for sure yet.

Rats...I am frustated for you Yvonne! Yes...just keep plugging. Your shoes are good, right? Have you worked with someone at a running store to make sure you're running in the right type of shoe for you? You're attitude is right on...keep on plugging. It's (I believe) more a bio mechanics issue due to an old hip injury. I think mostly from muscle imbalance/weakness but I'm working with a PT it just doesn't seem to be getting any better. I'm going to keep trying, I'll walk the half if I must, but man does that sound boring lol! |

Veteran 200 Missoula | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Closed Yvonne, I had similar issues last year in my lead up to my first HM. I ended up doing a bunch of aqua jogging. I was shocked at how much it helped. I had a few solid weeks that I ran only in the water. I would aqua jog roughly the equivalent of what my run time would be for my training runs. I'll be danged if it didn't work. I'm excited for your HM I know you can do it,(whether you run walk or crawl.) |

I was such a baby when I was sidelined with ITB syndrome last year, and it was hard for me to keep my spirits up, but KNOW that it will get better. Keep your focus, and keep positive thoughts in your mind! Listen to TJ, too. I remember last year when he started the aqua jogging, and how he was able to complete his HM. You'll do it. Sometimes just plugging away is enough to get you out of a funk, so you can enjoy running again. |

Do you just try to jog in water, do you have to wear a weight belt? Okay, these seem like stupid questions but I've never seen it done. Guess a little 'googling' is in order |

Veteran 493 Chicago, Illinois | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Closed Cold (for Fresno - 41oF), windy, and rainy today. There's a 1.5 mile stretch of straight East West road with good sidewalk very near my house that I do most of my running on, I start right at the 1 mile from the West point so that I can do any break down by .5 mile that I want. So I start there heading West today, on pace day, heading into the wind. With the jogging stroller (father of the year, right here). Finish the first mile and it's miserable, turn around and it's a lot easier...intended to do four but consider doing only three. And I think to myself, What Would Jax Do? Eyes on the prize. I joke, but seriously, between this group and the guys I'm doing the April tri with, I love the competition. It is my primary motivating factor. I've previously been motivated by competition with myself, but this is so much better. It's all in fun, but still. Oh, and my reward for the run (which went well, 4 miles at a 7:30 pace): I was so cold and wet that when I too quickly got into the shower all the blood rushed back to my skin and my tummy and thighs itched so bad I was scratching to the point of bleeding and it wouldn't go away and I rushed out of the shower panicking. My wife explained to me that I was an idiot (she put it in milder terms, but let's call a horse a horse) and put some lotions on me. |

Joe, I hear ya on the shower situation after being cold. Gotta resist the itch! Around these parts that happens after most winter runs. My skin AND muscles burn. Hurts so good.

Glad the competition is driving you to bleed! Keep the stories coming. If the competition isn't compelling enough, the entertainment will be! Whilst I am not quite in your league I did manage 9.5miles at 9:30 pace. First long run in my HM quest. How's that, even converted it into your speak (for me it was 15km at 5:38 pace). t's been hot here and I've been training in almost 90 degree heat for the last week or more, so I took the one cool day we've had to do a decent distance. |
