Help!
Cannot get the Graph to paste into the comment box. I get a big blank and the blinking cursor jumps down the box, when I paste into Word I something that looks like a formula instead of a picture.

The graph is a cool feature I didn't even know was available till today.

Year to date summary is I've been consistant all winter.

thanks guys! I posted my race report today at lunch (I tried last night but my internet explorer froze halfway through and I lost it and I was too tired to try again) so it should still be fairly recent in Race Reports.

holt1997 - 2008-01-23 8:14 PM I honestly keep thinking about the wildflower race. I keep thinking there is no way I could possibly be ready for it but then I went for a run tonight and thought...maybe. It was one of the worst weather wise but better as far as distance and time. Go figure. I'll think about it. (On my run tonight it was so cold that my water bottle froze along with my eye lashes, brows and hair. It was really weird) Scott

This brings up a good topic...namely race-readiness benchmarks.  I mean, don't we all want to know if we're "ready" for the big race?

In distances from 70.3-and-under, I would venture the following (note: this is my personal, completely unscientific, subjective, works-for-me system):

Benchmark #1- Can you perform all the distances of your race in the same week?  You're getting close.

Benchmark #2- Can you perform all the distances of your race in 3 consecutive days?  You're probably ready, and can probably complete the race if paced properly.

Benchmark #3- Can you brick your bike+run distance?  You're ready, baby.  Possibly even to "race" the race, not just complete it.

TriAya, or Donto, comments?

Well, today I completed benchmark #2. I ran 6 miles on the treadmill Thursday, swam 2550 yards on Friday, and biked 26 miles today (Saturday). My first race of the season is an Oly on April 27th. Next step is the Brick. This would actually work well because my ride ends at my friends house (the one that got me started in this) which is across the street from the HS track. A little less than 2 months to go, can't wait.

Scott,

You will for sure be able to finish the race. When I started last year I wish I would have prepared for the open water swim more. If you haven't practiced OWS I would throw in OWS workouts. The bike-run brick helps a lot because you can really gage how your legs react to running after bikeing hard.

Scott R,

Dude, you are so ready.  Bricks and OWS practice should be your focus now.  Keep up the great work and your eye on the prize.

Thanks guys.

I do want to try and fit in an OWS before the race, just need to find a good spot. And a brick is coming soon, I can feel it. Thanks again for the positive words.

Well I finally got around to posting photos from last years Tri's in my album. My favorite has got to be the one of me exiting the swim in Tiburon. This was my first race and the expression on my face says it all. Also, pay attention to the sweet red and black Vans mountain biking shoes I was sporting for my first season. These are actually clipless SPD shoes and pedals I took off my MTB. They have since been replaced with some Shimano shoes and Speedplays. Feel free to have a good laugh.

Bodyglide is your friend!!  It can happen with tech-fabrics too (if you run long enough).

That picture so reminds me of Kevin from the Dunder-Mifflin Cure for the Rabid 5K run. Any The Office fans out there?

Love The Office - cannot wait till they get the new shows back up!

A while back (1997) I bought a "Lifetime" membership to Fitness USA. So I haven't been there in at least 2 years, until today.

I did a treadmill run for 2 miles (18m) then jumped on the stationary bike for 20minutes (5 miles) and then back onto the treadmill, but only for a slow mile (12:30).

They have a pool but it's so small (10m - Maybe). I found that it is too short to attempt to swim as I'd get too dizzy turning around so frequently. But I can attempt to apply some of the techniques I am learning from the Total Immersion Freestyle DVD.

Scott, Ive been using Bagbalm since my last 5K, goes allot further and costs about 1/2 of what Body-glide is. Have you seen how much body-glide costs and how much you get, they think they own the market. You can get Bagbalm at most local pharmacy or feed stores. I will help with healing too, just keep out of the heat.

Ouch! that bloody nipple picture is a enough to smarten me up for the warmer running season ,currently I still have to wear tight fitting cold weather gear.

Hey, I swam over 3000y today. That's a long way considering I could only swim about 100y last year without having flip over and backstroke.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Tri-geek Trivia Note: Andy is wearing tri gear by Zoot Sports. While not so clear in this pic, you see the Zoot logos quite clearly in the actual episode.

Great job!  I can totally relate, as I'm in the same boat.  Couldn't swim a lick last summer, started from essentially scratch.  These days, it working on form, form, form!

Hi All,

Had a really enjoyable race here in the Bay Area today at the "Emerald Across the Bridge 12k". Race time was exactly 58:02, but 12 seconds had elapsed before I actually crossed the start line.

This was a really enjoyable, well run event (supposedly 5000 participants this year)... and my first race since May of 1990! Yep, 18 years since my last event; a 3:19 marathon in Burlington, Vermont in May of 1990. It feels really good to get back out there and push myself again!! I'll write up a report a bit later...

Hope all of you are having a wonderful weekend!

Why is there not a "Sports" or "Strength Training" option for cleaning out all the 'sediment build up' from the hot water heater and dryer vent???? Or even an option for an hour of frustration? That's all gotta burn some calories and increase some metabolic threshold.

C'mon seriously, it's only a year old and an element burns out, sediment builds up to the height of the lower element and it wont simply flush out? I've gotta get my dry/wet vac downstairs and figure out how to suck out that crap.

So... the book 'Training Plans for Multisport Athletes' came in the mail today. The triathlon training bible should be here any day too. Well, at least I have something to do while my daughter naps and the water heater drains again in another attempt to flush out the bad flakey stuff.

LGR, Great run, that's a really good time for such a long time off. Obviously you didn't get to rusty.

Jeremy, I'll have to look and see if painting is under sports my arms are spent after rolling paint for 4.5 hrs.

Crazy how a little housework can sneak up on your body. Last year I stopped using the self propelled option with my lawn mower and started pushing it... It's a whole new workout!

I've been doing a few brick workouts at the gym - run bike run. Is it a good idea to do this regularly or should I change up frequently? My longest time is 25 minutes each, and I feel good after the workout. My problem is this: the treadmill and bike at the gym time out after 25 minutes. I know I could just restart the workout, but I wonder if I should only be doing the bricks once in a while and right before a race. I don't know what I'm doing.

Weather should start warming up here soon, so outdoor running and biking will be an option.

UPDATE - So to make a long post longer - I was motivated for some dumb reason to get my bike out this morning:

OK, so today was the first time I got my bike out this year. Ohhh so cold! It was also the first time I rode with clip-in shoes. Wow, what a difference it makes to be able to pull up on the back pedal.

I tried to keep a cadence ride going, but being that it has been so long since my last serious ride, my legs got all jello-ey. I rode out to the west and for some crazy reason we had a strong wind from the east on my way back (Unusual in Michigan). I did pass another crazy person out riding today who advised me to save my energy as the wind was strong coming out of the east... man was he right!

I think my out avg speed was 16ish mph and my return into the wind was 12ish. But I tried to keep my cadence at about 50-55 rpm. My stationary bike rides have been 80's rpm, but apparently I'm not setting the resistance high enough, as today proves.

I'll be sore for Easter, but it feels so good to start my riding for the year.
