Nice and slow - one 13:30 mile then I stopped. Archilles feel great. spent some time stretching and doing some strengthening exercises after. I can't wait to get outside to run but I get ahead of myself. It really is one step at a time! You go Serenity! Take it slow and avoid injuries. Keep it up and you'll be passing me on raceday! |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED Hi Group: I just wanted to check in... Like Serenity, I too am still taking it one step at a time. My problem is that I'm so tight (and can get injured so quickly) that I can literally get sore from stretching. But I stretched for 15 minutes today, iced, and my knees and hips only feel a little sore. Any one got any advice on how to cure an ITB injury other than stretching/ice/and going slow? Tomorrow I'm going to make it my mission to hit the pool for the first time in more than two months. I might do 200 yards and aqua jog for the rest of the time. Again - nice and slow so I don't get hurt again... Finally - I'd love some help finding a good bike before my first tri in May. Last year, I did two sprints using my old hybrid road/dirt bike and that was ok because time wasn't as important to me as finishing. But I'd like to beat 1:40 at the Buzzard's Bay Tri in September and would like to find a better bike. Like many of you - I have kids and all my extra money is going into paying for diapers and daycare. I'd like to find something that I could use for a season or two for less than $300. Is that possible and if so, where should I go and what stretegy should I take? Thanks and have a great rest of the week! |

You really have to lay off the running for a little bit or it will just get worse. in the mean time you can do a number of excercises. I've used the foam roller which works well. And as I've said before, yoga can be helpful - i've used to help build a good base (core) and increase flexibilty. Both which will go a long way to preventing injuries. There are also some good excercises you can do with a swiss ball to strengthen your hamstrings, glutes and lower back. For the bike, I would hit up a few local bike shops and leave your name and number. Have them call if they take any trades that you would be interested in. That's probably your best bet for getting a decent bike in the $300 range. Best of Luck ! |

Well my trip was cut short to the pool. Kids are out of school. Just the least bit of snow and it is called off. You guys up in New York would laugh at when they call it off. Anyway feeling alot better since the kettlebell workout, tell you right now it kick my butt!!! lol. 400 yards seem so long for my swim part. Those that have done it I am stressed about it- does it go by faster on race day when you are actually doing it? I cant do 50 meters without having to take a breather. I think I am in trouble. Just joined the group and i'm trying to get caught up on who's who. Just checked your bio >>"We have four children 4,6,7 and 9! 1 cat and three goats!!" If you can handle all that, this should be easy! As far as the swim goes, i think you'll be surprised at how quickly you build your endurance. It's not even that you are building that much endurance, but as you learn to swim more efficiently and relax you use so much less energy than when you first start out. Which is good, because you have to bike and run after This is a reverse tri. Swimming is last!!! Ive paid and have been smack talking the hubby so I have to do it and beat him!!!! LOL - love it ! I don't want to know what the loser has to do. So many options with 4 kids and 3 goats |

The lady had bought it new and had an accident with a duck, yes a duck. She avoided it and the bike hit her in her back now she has 2 bulging discs. She had paid 2500.00 total and we got it for 700.00. Multiple items with it. It is a 2006 model but for me it didn't matter. It will last me forever. Try there. |

Master 1619 Hingham, Ma | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED Hi guys. Sorry I haven't been around the past couple of days, but it seems that you are getting along just fine. This is my busiest part of the year. I work for a company that does health and benefits and I am responsible to get investment performance for 401ks on the web and on people's statements. On top of that, I am not feeling the greatest. There is that Norovirus going around the office. I don't know if I had that, but I was pretty nauseas last night. Feeling better today and will hit the gym tomorrow. Anyway, I know some people had some questions regarding swimming and bikes, and I will get back to you. Any other issues you guys are facing, other than finding time to workout, that we can help you out with? Do you guys participate in your state's forum on this site? Do you ever meet up with other BT folks? For those in MA, we have a really great group that is pretty close. Many of us do the race in Hyannis in Feb (either the 10k or 1/2 Marathon) if anyone is interested. |

It gets about one post each quarter. I haven't met up with any BTer's, but maybe in the future. Welcome to the new members! |

You can either type the person's user name, or click on the little dots to the right and you can search for someone. Let me know if you still can't do it. eta (edited to add) - Does everyone know what an inspire is and how to view/give one? |

They are great races to practice transitions and will give you a good feel for how your legs are going to feel going from the bike to a run. We have a tri club around here that hosts several Du's during the year as "tune-up" races for triathletes and bikers/ runners that want to try expanding their horizons without getting in the water. As we all know how much everybody loves the swim portion of our events! |

Folks are on there all the time making arrangements to get together for training. We have a core group that gets together every couple of weeks in the winter to ride together at someone's house on trainers, we run almost every weekend in the winter and a couple of times a week in the spring and summer. Usually with a swim after. You guys are welcome to come by and check us out. Maybe you can bring some ideas back to your own groups. |

You can structure plan to make a race like a training day. |

Currently in the process of trying to find a new full-suspension MTB so i can ride with a MTB Meetup Group locally. Hoping it's going to get me better times on the bike portion of the off-road. The roots on the trails are killing my times without any front shocks. |
