Ok, I am finally back!  had an awesome time in Tahoe, skied at Kirkwood, Heavenly, Squaw and Mt. Rose.  Even got an AWESOME powder day - 16 to 18" on Saturday!  I am going to go for a 6 mile trail run again tomorrow, and hope the knee feels good like it did last week

Ending a busy seven days at home. Volunteered at a local bike race with a pro cycling team as head soigneur. Wouldn't have been to tough if it wasn't also the week I was home alone with our 20 month old daughter with my wife in Australia for work. So needless to say all that and training was quite busy. Got a long ride in Sunday with a short brick run at the end. Did a long run yesterday. Been feeling good with a few aches and pains, but nothing major. Speed although nothing amazing, has come up nicely at the end of my base. First race is March 27th with an Olympic distance.

Well it's been an interesting past week and a half for me. I'm still dealing with headaches, but mainly they're just at work now. It's fairly frustrating, but at least I feel back on track enough to be hitting all my workouts again. My advice to everybody, don't run on solid ice, and ski/snowboard with a helmet (and replace it after bad falls).

Obviously a sign that working is dangerous!!!

I agree, ski/snowboard with a helmet!  I have worn one for a long time, and they really are more comfortable and warm then hats.

went for a 6 mile trail run last night in the rain, NO KNEE PAIN!! That was even after running 3 miles on monday, and skiing hard the 4 days before that.  I am going to try to push back up to 3-4 days per week running

2 miles in the pool tonight at a pace that I know that I can maintain for the entire iron distance length, which is nice to know.  I know that I will never be a speed demon in the water, but at least now I can put a pencil to a time and know what I am up against and what basic timeline I am looking at to get out of the water.  It took me 1:17 to finish it, which will put me out of the water in about 1:30 or under, considering  the wetsuit and not doing open ended turns will help with the time.

Nice job on the swim!  2 miles, that's awesome!

Did a 90min run last night, my longest yet and it felt pretty good.  Still have a couple more workouts to finish out this week, then onto a recovery week!

Anyone racing this weekend?

I'm heading just north of Sacramento for a little off-road duathlon (2-14-2).  I'm setting my goal for 1:25, but who knows, the conditions can get pretty sloppy with some water crossings.  Should be fun; my oldest son will be racing juniors too.  So, I'm looking forward to doing some father-son bonding without the rest of the family!

Have a great weekend!

Finally got good enough weather to get a good ride in.  52.3 miles in a loop that I have that takes me from my house, out to Aurora resevoir and then 5 loops around the resevoir and back home.  It took me a little more than 3 hours to finish it, thanks to some head and cross winds, but it felt great to be outside.  Tomorrow I have a 2 hour swim to finish the week off....

Wow. My little mid back pain during yesterdays run turned into an all out huge cramped back last nite and this AM. Could hardly sleep and even hurt to take really deep breaths. Slowly though, it got MUCH better with alot of icing and just moving around. Was only going to go for a walk then but decided to give the bike a shot. The bike didn't bother me at all so I did some riding around the neighborhood. Lots of starts and stops but was pretty good. I need to stop being such a snob and only riding on country roads. I feel safer on the suburb streets too. People don't go 55 on these streets!! Was really good lots of surges and sprint type stuff. Might try this before work every now and then instead of spinning class.

You're starting to sound like me with the injuries, one thing after another.

Brick...I know. It does feel like one thing after another. But hey, we keep on doing it!! It gives me a huge appreciation for what I am able to do. Everytime I start feeling a little down and frustrated I try to imagine those not as fortunate as me. We've all been blessed with the bodies, time,  and living situations to be able to pursue things like triathlon......so, with that being said, I'm going to the red river gorge for a trail run right after my doc appointment this morning!!

I hope everyones week is shaping up nicely!  I have another run on tap tonight   knee still hurts, but it usually only hurts when i press in my clutch while driving (sometimes) or when walking (sometimes), i swear it is bi-polar!

Mike, hope your run is good. Hopefully your knee will be on a bi-polar upswing.

I did an 11 mile trail run in the red river gorge. On a trail I'd never been on before. My total time for the 11 miles was 2:23. I walked on the really steep hills or when it was very technical. I figure I walked around 4 miles of it??? Was a great workout. AND A BEAUTIFUL DAY. Tried to keep the running nice and easy. Back ok, knee ok, groin aching. Great day! Probably take tomorrow off. Hope everyone is doing good.

I hope everybody's injuries are doing better!  Mike M., that sounds like a gorgeous run you did.

I've finally recovered from my head injury and haven't had a headache in four days! Other than that, I've hit my first recovery week, which feels awesome!

I'm racing this weekend! Sprint tri - 750m swim/20k/5k.
I've only run 3 times in the last month due to my ITB friction syndrome, which is getting better slowly. I did 5k this morning, with a little pain. It was pretty slow, so my race plan will probably be hammer out on the swim and bike and go as fast as my knee lets me on the run.

Hope everyone else is going well with their training and injuries.

Christina..yes it was pretty....I'd like to take a trip west sometime and see the landscape most of you guys are used to. Glad your cabeza is better!

Stuart!! good to hear from you and your doing a race at that!! Good luck

I just got done with a spinning class. I was torn b/t spin or swim?? I chose spin because my legs don't feel thatr sore from the trail..just like some of the stabilizers in the lower leg. So, I'll swim friday morn and have fresh legs for run on saturday. Felt good in spinning. People were talking about the half marathon in class....hhhhmmmm. Iam still pondering it?!?!?

Raced this last Saturday.  Wow, tough AG for the event.  It was a short off-road duathlon, which is always tough for me.  I do much better with endurance rather than sprints.  Good news, I felt pretty good with only a little gluteal cramping on my second run.  Unfortunately, I noticed that my conditioning was a little off due to injury rehab.  Finished 5th AG, 13th overall.

Mike, looks like an awesome place for a trail run.  With all of that canopy, were the trails pretty sloppy?

Tim, just a few places. The bulk of the run was on ridge tops, which are usually pretty dry. Down low though the it waas wet in some of the spots where run off crosses the trail. Most the trees don't have leaves yet, but there are lots spots on the trail where rhododendrons(spelling?) make like a cave over the trail...that's pretty cool I think! Lots of leaves cover the trail so one has to really watch for ankle twisters( I almost did twice that day). Nice pic. I'll have to post some.

Ahh....the change to daylight savings time means one thing....more time on the bike outside.  I can start riding Monday to work, which nets me about 40 miles a day.  This week has been tough, I felt my knee gimp up a little on Thursday am and it has been sore the rest of the week, so workouts have been almost non-existent.  It feels better today, but I am going to take it easy today and get on the bike tomorrow for a good ride.  Today was all about cleaning and adjusting the bike.  Moved the aerobar position and spacers on the headset (which already feels more comfortable when I am in the aero position and seems to generate more power with less effort), then cleaned and did some minor tuning to the bike.  I figured I might as well take care of some maintenance.....sounds like race season has started already for some of us, I don't get my first in until June, but I will be doing a couple of 5ks and 10Ks within the next 3-4 weeks, so that will be fun.

... sounds like race season has started already for some of us QUOTE]

Unfortunately, I'm going my region's (CA, NV, AZ) first XTERRA due to work.  I'm trying to convince my wife that it is important for me to make this up by doing the next event at Lake Las Vegas on her birthday.  Went something like this:  How about we take a few days off and go to Las Vegas for your birthday... Oh, by the way, I was thinking a could do this race....  I think you can see how this wentCry.
