Jason make sure you practice running off the bike, even if its only 10 mins.  It will get you used to the jelly legs feeling.

TIm that is my biggest issue also, I have the biggest sweet tooth and could eat icecream everyday. After vacation I am trying a new meal plan for Jan & feb.

Great workout scott, my only advice is to watch knee pain. If your at 50 rpm that means your pushing a huge gear and alot of people get knee pain.  For me the trainer is even harder as you cant move the bike from side to side.  You will be an IRONMAN soon....

Erin if that happens again and you want to workout just do lunges and core for a little while that way you still get a workout that will help your season.  It needs no equipment and is easy to do in your front room.   Hang in there and good luck getting bike fixed.

Yes, we are watching the pain closely.  No pain at all.  Once in a while a sort of tightness is felt.  I take that as a warning and stretch/yoga and foam rollers even longer than usual.  Feel good today. Went to bed early.

Turns out that workout was so hard cause I did it wrong. :/  The SEs are at low cadence high power.  I thought the 3X1 min pops were supposed to be high cadence and even higher power.  The higher power was right but they should have been low cadence too.  That would have been MUCH easier than trying to shift gears against the pressure from the Computrainer. Glad I asked the coach.

I would wish for that.  Whenever I do a brick, mine feel like sacks of potatoes.  Or is it pile of bricks and thus the term "brick"?

my plan says to do short runs after my long bike rides but that does not start until about 6 weeks out from my race.  today i am going to run on treadmill but before i do i am going to do leg ext, curls and squats.  i am hoping to get that same "brick" feeling.  do you think that will be ok?

Hi Everyone.

Just thought you might like this link to Switchfoots "Dare You To Move". I also have it on my training log page. I think it is an awesome song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsSR4VrmsRY

Welcome to the Planet
Welcome to existence

Everyone's here

Everyone's here

Everybody's watching you now

Everybody waits for you now

What happens next?

What happens next?

I dare you to move

I dare you to move

I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor

I dare you to move

I dare you to move

Like today never happened

Today never happened before

Welcome to the fallout

Welcome to resistance

The tension is here

The tension is here

Between who you are and who you could be

Between how it is and how it should be

I dare you to move

I dare you to move

I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor

I dare you to move

I dare you to move

Like today never happened

Today never happened

Maybe redemption has stories to tell

Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell

Where can you run to escape from yourself?

Where you gonna go?

Where you gonna go?

Salvation is here

I dare you to move

I dare you to move

I dare you to lift yourself, to lift yourself up off the floor

I dare you to move

I dare you to move

Like today never happened

Today never happened

Today never happened

Today never happened before

Have a great day.

Run and weights on tap for me tonight Smile

Woke up last night and started feeling a sore throat.  I am in full cold prevention mode - Vitamin C, Zicam, Nettipot.  I became a total freak when I feel I am getting sick.  With having to sing in my bands and with my training I just can't afford to be knocked out with a cold!  I hadn't gotten sick in two years and then last November I got hit with a terrible flu and had to cancel my first show in 15 years.

Defintitely one of the benefits of being in great physical shape is that your immune system is in full force and I can usually fight most colds off.  Most of my friends with small kids are ALWAYS sick with the stuff they drag back from school/daycare.  Pretty amazing how if you treat your body right if will reward you-haha  Hopefully I can kick this one!

I have always liked that song. Good choice.  I usually don't workout to music but if I need that extra bump on a long run I have my workout mix that starts with Emenem - Lose Yourself.  Even if I am only on mile 1 - for some reason I always picture myself on mile 25 of a marathon and on track for a PR and I only have one chance and can't mess it up -haha

I did this workout a few times with some guys from my Master Group and it will KICK YOUR BUTT!!  But it will make you stronger and help with that "jelly legs feeling"

1. 15 Minute Warmup on the bike
2. Jump off do 1 Mile medium paced  (almost like a warmup)
3. 10 minutes on bike (we would do some one-legged drills/each leg 90 seconds)
4. Run 1 Mile at 5K pace
5. 10 minute on bike
6. Run 1 Mile at 5k pace
7. 10 minute on bike
8. Run 1 Mile 5k pace
9. 10 Minute Cool down on Bike

Also helps practice getting both your bike and run shoes on and off with tired legs.  The first time I did with them they all had the elastic laces on running shoes and were 30 seconds into run before I had my shoes tied!  After that I went out and bought elastic laces and it definitley saves time.

As the season goes on they build on this workout and add more reps and will go up to 2-1/2 hours.  This one is about 1-1/2 hours.  You can also reduce some of the reps if it is too much.  Good Luck Wink

Tim, I'm telling you man, Neti Pot every day.  Why wait until you're sick?  They keep the disease fighting little hairs in the sinuses moving things out that aren't supposed to be there.

Does your band have anything online?  It'd be cool hearing you.

Never Gonna Come Back Down by BT & M. Doughty.  I love that song when I'm on the spin bike.  I have yet to listen to anything when I run because my concern is that I will get "caught up" and end up burning myself out too soon on the workout.

Haha  - I was just talking with my wife the other day about how you use it every day and I think I am going to try that.

Here are a couple YouTube videos -  I posted these because this show was on the Friday of my Ironman weekend -haha  (I had to keep my bike backstage) I played a 4 hour set until 10:30pm, jumped in the car and drove 5 hours to St. Louis.  Slept at hotel for few hours, woke up and drove another 4 hours to Branson to get there in enough time for registration.  Looking back I don't think I would ever book a show again on Ironman weekend -hahah  - 45 degrees in Chicago when we left and 90 degrees when we pulled into Branson.

Should I ask for tri shorts and a tri shirt for my birthday in a couple of weeks, or is there something else I should get her to spend her money on? I heard I should get tri shorts because of the pad.

sorry - We would alternate.  So you would do them on steps 3 & 5.  You don't really have to do the drills also.  By step 5 your legs will be feeling it.

So one other thing I forgot to mention as a goal for January is my nutrition.

  1. I will log my meals - EVERY MEAL
  2. I will get my vegetables in every day.

I have two big weaknesses when it comes to food - McDonalds & stuff my co-workers bring in and set on the kitchen table that I end up grazing on around 4pm.  I am also going to limit these ( I cheated yesterday with some peanut butter chocolate cake.   Today's challenge - a box of Dunkin Donuts sitting all day calling my name - but I resisted and they are now all gone!!

Does anyone else have any food weaknesses?  I can smell a McDonalds Daily Double cheeseburger from a mile away and hunt it down - haha

My weakness is potato chips - damn I love them.

Haha - No you can buy it at Walgreens or CVS - not on some ghetto street corner.

Basically it is this little plastic pot (looks like a tea kettle) that you mix this little packet with warm water and then run thru on nostril, thru you sinus cavity and then out the other nostril.  Feel weird at first but really cleans out your sinus cavity, especially if you have a sinus infection.
