oliveu363 - 2011-01-27 1:15 PM The tough mudder sounds like fun. I have never done anything like that what does it entail?

It's a 10-mile obstacle featuring 19 different obstacles.  As this is my first race of this type, I don't have anything to compare it to but it is said to be the most difficult race of this type due to the type of obstacles and length of the race.  I think it will be a good time and a good challenge.

I'll let you know of Monday...

ETA:  Go to http://toughmudder.com/ for details about the race.  I'm doing the one in Austin.

Great job on the run!  I would say that a run today depends on the volume of running that you've been maintaining.  I would suggest that if you're going to run you make it an easy recovery run.  Don't push the pace and just enjoy the time.  Let your body actively recover throughout.  You can push the pace another day.

I am going to try and find time sometime today before I lay my noggin down on my pillow and close my eyes to do a headcount and see how many we have in the group. I will most likely  be closing us for new members this weekend.

That's not necessarily a bad idea. You ran 4 yesterday, maybe run 2-3 easy miles today. When I was marathon training I'd run 5-6 days a week some weeks. Other weeks I'd run less days, but I'd run 2 a days.

Thanks.....my name's Dan...currently sentenced to live in NW Indiana. I'm 47 and as I said above....I am truly new to this. While I've always lived a fairly active life I was never what would be considered an athlete. Last year, at the urging of my college student son I took up( or became obsessed with, according to my wife) cycling. My fitness level improved rapidly and to date I've dropped about 25 lbs down to about 185. I live for mountain biking. Last fall, I also began running and early winter started hitting the gym. So......I began to think of what goals I could set for myself. At this point I have Two firm goals.....one is to complete the Sprint portion of the Chicago Tri in August of this year and secondly to complete an HIM before I turn 50. I also have some fun events scheduled for this year (Muddy Buddy with my son and Warrior Dash). There will of course be a fair amount of cycling events as well. I have looked at the 20 week training program and hope my base will be sufficient by April to begin that in my quest for the Chicago Tri. That's the Cliff Notes version.

Good morning everyone!  Been up since 3:46 but not b/c of a workout.  My youngest son decided he was ready for the day so he got up, woke up his brother, then didn't want to go back to sleep.  Going to be a 3-cup morning.

Welcome, Dan!  Looks like you've got a solid set of goals lined up!

Been there. This morning the kids slept, and the dogs decided it was time for us to get up. Ugh!

ironannekidd - 2011-01-29 6:18 AM Good morning everyone!

What's on tap for today?

Working 7am to 7pm today. Had intentions of doing an hour of swim training this morning but could not get my butt out of bed :-(......A reoccurring theme for me is not enough sleep....going to work on that. I will likely get some treadmill time in during the day and hit the bike trainer at home tonight.....tomorrow morning swimming for sure.

Probably a short run to loosen the legs bit no more than a couple of miles. Resting up for Tough Mudder tomorrow.

Can I log grocery shopping as a workout? I made at least 2 laps around the store becuase I only had a partial list and I kept remembering things I needed to pick up.

Hey Anne,
Room for one last one to sneak in before u close the gate?

I've just signed up for the Iron Girl Triathlon in Atlanta on May 15th.

I'm a total slug - except I can swim. Rode the Expresso bike at the Y twice in 2 weeks - 5 mi 'rides' - damn near killed me - so 18 mi is really gonna do me in!

The run should be interesting - I broke my tib-fib  2 yrs ago and got a rod down my tibia for my troubles. Walking the dog last Sunday for 1.8 mi made the screws at my ankle kill  - but then it went away.  I don't dare run (and land hard) on my leg just yet.

I just swam 40 laps in a little less than 40 minutes a little while ago. It's the first time I've been in a pool in over 2 yrs. It was all free style and some back stroke. I tried the breast stroke since I've been told that is a necessary resting stroke - I looked like I was having a seizure! I need a stroke class!

I bought a Camelback today b/c I thought I would need a lot of water, only to read that it's sports drinks I should be drinking and not a whole lot of them even - so I'm definitely going to need help here!!

Thanks,

Karen

Well....after some review and thought, Ive decided to up the ante a bit for this season. Rather than wait for the Chicago Tri in August (which is a long way off and makes it tough for me to stay motivated....I work best under pressure) I am going to run the Warsaw Optimist sprint in June then the Chicago 10 weeks later.....which means my 20 week program starts TOMORROW.....so according to the plan, it's a swim and bike day tomorrow.....jump right in with 2 a days (albiet, mild ones for now). I think since I really don't know what to expect, starting in a slightly smaller venue than Chicago might be the way to go.

Rather than wait for the Chicago Tri in August (which is a long way off and makes it tough for me to stay motivated....I work best under pressure) I am going to run the  first Indianapolis sprint in June then the Chicago 10 weeks later.....which means my 20 week program starts TOMORROW.....so according to the plan, it's a swim and bike day tomorrow.....jump right in with 2 a days (albiet, mild ones for now). Welcome Dan and good luck.  It's definitely great to have a goal to shoot for.

Unfortunately the weather didn't let me take the bike out today.  Just went to the gym and rode the stationary.  Hope everyone is having a good weekend.
