Anyone who did Jerseyman this past weekend, can you help me out? Aside from being twice the distance, can you give some details on how the course measures up compared to LP? Thanks.

Scott,

I thought the run was very similar to LP's run course. Maybe not quite as hilly but very very close. The last steep hill at the end of the run reminded me of the hill back into town at LP.

I'm not sure what to say about the bike. It wasn't has hilly as LP, but it was much more technical. The surface of the roads at LP was much better. I was hoping to get a guage of where I was for LP as well, but I don't think you can compare the two courses. LP has more hills, but also more free speed and not a lot of braking. This course you were braking a lot and turning frequently. I am interested to see what Fred and James think.

Just my 2 cents.

Someone mentioned it above, but I have a Profile "offset" seat post, I'd see. I tried it for a while and it would up being unnecessary.  It allows you to move your seat farther forward.  I think I used it like 10 - 15 times.

Gee thanks - and I woke up sore today after feeling no discomfort yesterday after Sundays race. What a horrible reminder of what pain to come for me.

I went for a long swim last night at a real easy pace to make sure I stayed loose. Then stretched for about 20 mins just to get the hammies loose. I think it paid dividends today as I feel pretty good.

Yeah - but easier said than done. Try explaining that to my wife after taking an entire sunday away from the family for a race in the rain

What is the water temp in Mirror Lake and with this week's heat wave, how much will it warm up by the weekend?  I'm dragging the family up there on Saturday and wasn't really expecting to be able to swim but now that I see it's supposed to be 89F there today, I am more optimistic.

The water was pretty chilly on Sat.. I stood it in after my ride and it hurt until I numbed up.  I don't know that I would swim without a wetsuit and lid, but there were some people swimming.  The buoy's are not the IM ones, but they are for boat racing.  By this weekend, you can probably swim in it for a bit, but don't quote me on that.

Anyone using Spinervals DVDs for training? I'm thinking about getting one for kicks and giggles for training!

I have several Spinervals and I like them. He has some cheesy music on them but that's part of the charm. There is also an option where you don't have to have his music, you can listen to your own. I have a bunch of hill-climbing ones  and some "aero base" ones. Lately I'm only doing the hill ones!

You don't really "need" them but they are fun and a distracting/motivating way to get through an indoor workout.

Yeah, I have several but some of the recent ones I have bought are really good. I like muscular endurance plus 30.0 and 31.0 for longer stuff. Long zone 3 intervals. Really breaks up a long trainer session but lots of work gets done.

Agree about the DVD's, I like them but the music is well, not what I would have expected....  I love when he says "watch that car"  or "watch that tractor trailer"  But  do use then and they are good.

Just my .02....

I used the LP Training Ride DVD several times in 08 since I was knew I wouldn't be able to ride the course before hand. Good to get an idea, but you really can't tell the grades both up and down. He must have said "Stay on my wheel." about 50 times during the DVD.

During the second lap of the race I passed by my family out on 86. My 12 yr old daughter yells out....."DAD, STAY ON MY WHEEL!!!" I almost pissed my pants.

That's to funny!

I find him annoying and his commentary...I bought the DVD and didn't even watch it in full once as I thought it was quite different than the actual course.

I have about 5 spinnervals still in the shrink wrap.

Get a power meter or computrainer and have a good workout to follow and the time goes by just fine and I get a good workout.

Thanks for the DVD input!  We have a DVD that came with the indoor trainers, but it's only 45 minutes long if we do ALL of the options on it... I saw some Spinervals that were over 2 hours. =)

No one hundred miler for me this weekend. I did 105 last weekend and this weekend I am planning on doing around 50. I have to give myself a little rest b/c the following weekend I am doing Mooseman.

It's been high 80's to low 90's for the past three days here in the North Country - Lake Placid area. I hope that warms the water up a bit cause I too need to get in some open water swimming.

Haven't checked in a few days but I agree with some of the posts about possible change to out-back. To Ausable isn't bad, but it is more open - not as much shaddy area on warm day to get out of the sun like regular out-back. And it does make a lot of climbing all the way back to LP.

Anyone doing Rev3 next weekend?

PennState - 2010-05-26 8:28 PM Hey anybody have a 100 miler ride this weekend. It's getting to be that time o' year

I'm in for my first 100+ mile ride this Friday.  I did 95ish and 90 the last two weeks.  Planning to do hilly 112 starting early to try to avoid the heat for most of the ride.

I've got a 4 hr ride on Sunday so that should get me over 80 and combined with the 2 hr and that should put me around 130 miles for the weekend.

Time to logs the race specific mileage.  Fun Fun.
