LadyNorth - 2010-05-01 4:57 PM Hi,

Just got back - have to leave for BACKUS SMELT FRY.  Got 1st place age group (60 & up - only 2 in my age group, haha).
Wind was horrible, horrible.  Can't wait to compare the other bike times - mine was so bad.

Later, Denise

CONGRATULATIONS DENISE!!!!   First place - yeah!!!!     Hope they gave you a nice medal or a plaque.        Looking forward to hearing the details.

Lisa - Congrats
Just the thought of 79 at the start makes me cringe.  I may complain about cold but I really cannot tolerate heat like that in a race.

I am with you on that!

Congrats Lisa!

Dwayne - if there was one closer to me, I would totally do it - looks like such fun!

Come on Steve A, you are hanging tough, keep at it man.  Hope that hammie isn't giving you too much trouble.  (Positive mojo heading to St George, UT from Caratunk ME)

Who else was racing today that I forgot (already congratulated Denise on the AG 1st place!)

Cheers!

I don't know, but there must be something wrong with me.   I'm hearing 79 and thinking how great that is.

Harris' Sparrow! That's a good one, a very good one.

Congratulations on the adoption. White-throats are nice little birds, and we laways have a lot in the woods around home. I never get tried on that song: "Old Sam Pea-body, Pea-body, Pea-body." They've been back for about a week now, and today I heard the first Ruby-Crowned Kinglet of the year. Spring continues to be very early here, both in terms of leafings and bird arrivals. (And quantity of outdoor rides!!!!!!!!!!!)

Just a karmic thought for you...

Dig deep, dog deep. I know you're in that place you'd rather not be, but one foot ahead of the other, repeated as required, and you'll be out of it soon enough. Hang tough!!

DENISE - Congrats on winning your AG

LISA - 76 water temp? I'm jealous. Awesome job on the race!

DWAYNE - Now you've got me convinced to do the Warrior Dash out here. I was hoping it'd be fun, and now I have confirmation. So I just signed up. Yay

STEVE -

There it was, greeting me at 5:27 this morning -- confirmation that you had indeed finished IMSG. As Mike Reilly proclaimed last night:

"Steve Aquavia, you ARE an Ironman!"

Sooooo.........How are you doing? I don't imagine any of the emotions were too clear then and aren't much better now, and beyond that I just hope your body is fine (enough). I was so relieved and happy when the third run split came up, because for so many people that's the one that counts -- if they make it to 20 miles, they will slither on their belly like a reptile if that's what's required to finish. So, with that in mind here's to your hamstring --- held it together so you could finish Ironman St. George!

The best is soon to come - the Morning After Breakfast. May you find one that serves enormous portions, or better yet, a massive buffet. Engulf and devour! Enjoy!

We are all awaiting any word from you, and just hope you have no serious msigivings about how the races went for you. It is a colossal undertaking to do what you just did, and you have every reason to be proud of the accomplishment -- including all of the massively dedicated hours you diligently put into the training. CONGRATULATIONS!

Which Warrior Dash did you sign up for? And did you check first to make sure Dwayne is still breathing?

IRONATTRITION?

For my cohort age group (M60-64) at IMSG:

52 - registered
36 - started race
5 - completed swim only
4 - completed swim and bike

27 - finishers

Yikes.

I watched Training Payne's video blog after his race - he said the swim was much colder than he thought it would be, folks were taking a long time in T1 to bundle up, and that the wind was pretty fierce on the bike. PLUS, there are some killer climbs on that course from what I saw in his video.  And he said, "The run? WHOA. The. Run. Was. Hard.
It was hard."

I am looking forward to hearing from Steve A - I hope his hammie didn't give him too much hell in the run and that he is eating his head off right now.

Cheers,

Mandy

CONGRATULATIONS STEVE!      You are IRONMAN.    I get chills when I say that.     I was following your race after I got home yesterday, and kept waiting for the 3rd run split to come up but eventually had to get to bed, DARN!!!

I watched the 20 minute pre-race video with the commentator and Lisa Bentley.   It was really good and informative.   Lisa said the run course is the hardest ANYWHERE in the world - 2.5 miles uphill coming out of transition and then turning into an 8% climb - hilly, hilly!    And the bike is also one of the toughest.

I guess you had a strategy picking this one as your first.    Now all the rest are going to seem easy.   Wink Wink

I see a Canadian took 1st for the women.

I can just imagine how proud your wife must be.   I am sure she had tears in her eyes when you crossed the finished line.    You are an inspiration to us all.

You RockBravo!Woohoo!

Dial-up kills me with all of those nifty features associated with St. George -- the videos of the course, the interviews, etc.

The best I could manage way was the profile maps on the race website, and comparing those to the other tough domestic IMs, such as Lake Placid and Couer d'Alene and Wisconsin..........St.George sure looked tough!!

Makes the in-race suffering worse, but the accomplishment afterglow all the brighter!

I trust you were wetsuit-clad yesterday, so how did it feel in the heat of battle (make that the chill of battle!)? Any idea what your water temp was? NO! WAIT! It was a pool swim for you, wasn't it?
