How many XTERRA's have you done, Tim?  I know there is one up here (Vashon Island), that I was thinking about a couple summers ago.  The swim is in part of the puget sound, which i think gets up to about 55F in the summer - pretty cold!

So who has a race coming up?  I don't have anything on the schedule yet, but it is getting to be close to the first sprints of the year, I would think!  Definitely spring out in Seattle area, low to mid 60's today!

I have a way to go until the first Tri's, but I have a couple of 5K's and 10K's coming up in April, which will be fun....

I raced last Sunday! Yay. I came 9/17 finishers for the AG, which is my best position so far. I was 250/530 finishers overall. There was a massive current on the swim (going with it thank goodness), which meant my swim time was just under 7min. Normally a 750m swim would take me about 14-15mins at race pace.

I smashed myself on the bike, going as hard as I could, as I didn't know whether my knee would hold up on the run. 5th for the AG.

It definately showed on the run that I hadn't done any run training for the last month. I was 15th for the AG, even though I did a sub 25min 5k.

Overall I was pretty happy with how I went. Now just one more month of solid run training until my last race of the summer - another sprint. I'm going to ease back on the cycling, focus on the run and swim more.

I'm starting training for a marathon mid year too. I asked my physio if it was reasonable, despite my injury, and he said the worst that would happen is that I'd start to do some long runs and might get some problems again, and the I'd have to ease back. But I've got 17 weeks to go for it.

Stuart - Nice job on your race last weekend! Glad your knee held up alright.

Thanks to Daylight Savings Time, I got to do my ride last night outside and the snow has cleared enough that I got to put in an awesome hill workout. It was wonderful! If I can keep that up, I hope to ride Independence Pass in May before it opens to cars. Although if the snow keeps melting at this rate, the Pass will be clear in April. Stupid winter with little snow!!

My first race is in June, but I have my eye on a Sprint in the Denver area in May. Training is going well, except I'll be in Vegas this weekend and on a ski vacation in Silverton, CO, the next. Hopefully that doesn't set me back...

I did three last year.  This will be my first season competing for Nationals.  Points are awarded for top finishes from your best three races within your division.  Most points within AG are granted spots to Nationals.  If I get to go to Lake Las Vegas, since that is a regional destination, three spots for Worlds (Kona) will be given out there for my AG.

WA is not in my region.  So, even if I place, I wouldn't get points toward Nationals.  But, Guam is in my region. GO FIGURE!

I'd probably need to worry about my head more in Vegas then on a ski trip Surprised

Then again, I do get crazy from time to time Wink

running is still going good!  This will be the third week in a row with OVER 15 MILES PER WEEK!  pretty weak, but its a start at easing back into some mileage.

I hear you about the running.  My running has been pretty much non-existent except for racing.  Just recently, I've started to build base again, but only at 8-10 miles per week and my longest run has only been 5 miles.  FRUSTRATING!

... sounds like race season has started already for some of us QUOTE]

Unfortunately, I'm going my region's (CA, NV, AZ) first XTERRA due to work.  I'm trying to convince my wife that it is important for me to make this up by doing the next event at Lake Las Vegas on her birthday.  Went something like this:  How about we take a few days off and go to Las Vegas for your birthday... Oh, by the way, I was thinking a could do this race....  I think you can see how this wentCry.

I haven't taken there.....yet

Stuart..nice job..I respect the move of going balls out on the bike and knowingthe run is looming.

Oh yeah guys... after my big run I was so proud of I must have really aggravated my right groin..BAD. At least 7 times ove rthe next 3 days after, I screamed out in pain doing such things as raising the leg to put on pants! If I raised my knee straight up no problem.....but if I raised kind of like with hakey sack...wow. So a few days off...swam yesterday and was oK.   Today did a good solid ride around my neighborhood for 20 miles. DAYLIGHT savings rules. Great ride, pretty day.Probably no running for me now for a little while...I was thinking until march 28. That should be good...then ease back in. Planning on a big ride saturday  morning...OH BOY. Yeah the injuries are frustrating...oh well.

Mike M - sucks that another injury flared up, I hope it goes away quick!

I got in another bike ride today after work - a little cool, about 48-50 degrees. . I definitly should have worn some tights and shoe covers. . but alas, I prefer shorts!  It is crazy to ride and run these days and feel how out of shape I am compared to where I used to be!  I know it will come back quick though, with some hard work.

A four hour ride is supposed to be in the cards for me on Saturday, but it is springtime in the Rockies which only means one thing......4-8 inches of snow, just enough to screw up soccer for my kid and my training schedule.  Four hours on the trainer is the equivalent of wanting to crawl across broken glass on my hands and knees (don't want to do it, even if there is NCAA basketball games on all day), so I may have to find an alternate plan and make up the hours next week when the weather turns......

Mike, thank you. I got to do a 2:20 , 39 mileride  this AM. Was very good. Went with 2 peeps from work who kept it very relaxed and coasty for the first 1.5 hours. But I was running out of time so I hammered back home...INTO a headwind!! Ouch. It's the same everytime, I don't know why I was surprised!!The groin hurt a little the last 5 minutes!! So not bad. Off on sunday, swim monday and another long ride on tues. Oh yeah the got to see 2 baby horses today on the ride!!Very cool.

Long time no post. I have been training quite a bit. First race of the year is on the 27th. Did a 3:40 bike with 20min Brick run today.
Looking for some advice in the week ahead. I am on a 20 week plan for my first A race of the year which is April 17th. Looked at a Oly specific plan for the week before the race. Question is, Stick with current plan or modify to Oly plan just for this week?
Oly specific:
Monday-B1:00 R:30 S:30 Tuesday-OFF Wednesday-B:30 R:30 S:30 Thursday-OFF Friday-B:30 R:30 S:20 Saturday Race
Current plan:
Monday-B:45 ez Tuesday-R:30speed work S1:05 speed work Wednesday-B:45 hills Thursday-R:30 ez Friday-S:30 ez
Thanks
Bryan

I guess i would mix the two plans.  I like the looks of the OLY plan better, since it doesn't have the speed work and hills.  However, I would probably make friday just an easy swim, or maybe a short run with some strides worked into it.  That is mostly personal preference.  If you haven't tested your race setup on your bike, that would be a good thing to do that week too.

My knees are feeling better and have had 3 runs now with no pain whatsoever.  Tonight is a brick night....90 minutes on the trainer followed with 30 minutes on the treadmill (maybe more if I feel right).  I am now exactly 8 months out from IMAZ, so I need to keep moving.  I just can't wait until the weather is more consistent here in CO so that I can get some real quality time on the bike.  Supposed to have snow again today and tomorrow, so outside will be shot, but I will get a couple of good treadmill runs (now that our treadmill has been replaced) and swims in this week.

Lance, Glad your knees are feeling good. Sorry your weather isn't getting better. I'm feeling spoiled!
The weather has been good here in KY. Got in a good ride. 56.7 miles in 3:20. Took on some massive hills coming out of the ky river gorge!!I barely made it up one of the hills. The guy on the ferry told me that one of the local triathletes would do it 10 times!! Wind was bad today. I tried not to push the big ring as much today. Even with that I was feeling rough about the last 30 minutes.
Saw some baby llamas today. That was a first!!

Well I've been a bit down this week about training, although I'm so refreshed after this past weekend.  Someone threw a softball through a window at the rec center pool here, shutting the pool for the week.  Since I'm leaving town again Thursday night, no swimming for me.  Luckily my training has me focusing on running this week. I swapped out my long weekend run for the run last night, and my knees are a bit unhappy today.  Perhaps time for new shoes...

Checking in... I've been gradually building base in bike and run.  I have to keep telling myself slow and steady.  Did my first tempo run today in months; it actually felt good considering I was coming off a bike ride the day before.

nice work!  It is always great to get some results for all the hard work!

Another busy weekend for me - out of town, family reunion, floating on a river

I did get out for a nice run with my dad.  He did a 1/2 marathon a few weeks back, which was the longest run/race he had done in 30 years or so.  Its great to see him running so much stronger then he was when i ran with him in the fall!

How was everyone's weekend?  I am getting pretty excited about biking and running a lot again, which is great!
