It really looks like a great running day today.  I hope that those of you who are planning a run are able to make it out there!  I have 2 of my little ones with me today, so had to hit the gym and went to a spin class.  I pretty much have to rely on the gym for workouts during the week since they have daycare and I try to get my weekend run done outside since my husband will be home and can look after the kids.  I have a 7 miler planned with a friend tomorrow, I'm hoping the wet/snowy weather holds off!

Yay, Nancy!  Psyched you'll be doing the Foxboro race!!  What a fun group!

Hey everyone, sorry it took me a while to get back to everyone. The Dr. appt was interesting. Because of so many injuries that were all on the left side of my body (broken ankle on the growth plate, torn ACL, dislocated shoulder) my left hip is over compensating and it screws up my running. That’s what the Dr. said was my problem and a reason I get such bad shin splints. His exact words were “ wow your shoulder is MESSED up!” not the best things I want to hear., but I got some massage stuff to work on that, and I left feeling good.

I am going to be working with a multiple Ironman finisher, physical therapist in March to work on my core, hips and posture. Other than that my training was not great this week. Two nights of swimming, one hour bike ride, and I just finished a 3 mile run (30 min…ugh)

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Wow, Joel, it sounds like you have a lot of work cut out for you, but it will be worth it. I've been through several rounds of pt and chiropractic, and to be honest I didn't think it would really help that much, but in the long run it has helped me enormously. So glad you seem to have found a doc you like. Good luck!

Hope your tummy is feeling better, Mav. I kinda worry about that issue for the race next Sunday. I usually don't like to run too far from home, if you know what I mean. As for after the race, is there a specific spot where we are all planning to meet?

@mav, 9 miles outside! Good for you!

@Joel, OUCH.  Sounds like a great PT you have lined up!   I too vote for chiropractic; it has been wonderful for my back/neck/shoulder in the past year.

@Nancy, YAY  so glad you'll be at the race!

@Kristen, yes, so many workouts revolve around the babysitting hours at the gym, don't they ?

RE: meeting up at the Wampanoag run next weekend..... I would love to get a photo of TeamMAV before the race!     I am doing the 10-miler, so you'll  be into your omelettes and mimosas by the time i'm finishing Tongue out   (Seriously, please do not hang around the finish for an extra 90 minutes.)

I know I've been MIA...again.

The stomach flu got the best of me, work is insane (my blackberry is coming on my next swim with me) and Zoe decided the hours from 2-5:00am are her favorite to either be held or cry

sob story over I still plan to show up Sunday, Ill rock the run/walk with you, Nancy

So sorry for your loss, Courteney. I think running is good for your mental state, even when things are stressful.

I will try to get down to Foxboro this week and scope out a place where we can all meet before and a place to eat after for those who want to eat....I am always up for food....but I am running 10 with Erin so it might be a while.Lauren is running 10 too....but something tells me she will be a bit speedier. My stomach is greatly improved today. Unfortunately my daughter is ill and I am taking her to the hospital tonight to be evaluated. Ahhhh.Saturday night in the ER, not my favorite place.Joel so glad you liked Neil. If anyone is in need of a podiatrist I would advise you see Neil Feldman in Worcester. He is a triathlte and Mike Roberts of Central Mass PT. Mike us also a triathlte and he is fantastic.

Considering how slow I am, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that you and Erin will finish your 10K faster than I will finish the 5K!

Good Monday Morning! Hope you all had a good weekend!

Down one pound for me

This will be a good week to dial it back and rest a little for those who are racing the Foxboro race next weekend. Be sure you get yourself really hydrated.

What to wear for these races is always an issue. I try to look at what the max temp will be while I am running and dress as if it were 20 degrees warmer. I wear those $1 gloves because it takes a mile or so and then my hands are hot. If I loose one ...no big deal.I always wear a hat. If its going to be really cold ( under 30*) then I wear a headband under my hat. I wear running tights for anything under 50*. I will often wear a tri top, long sleeve technical shirt and a vest. If its really cold I wear a jacket instead of a vest.I will bring a dry shirt and warm fleece for after the race. Hanging out in wet sweaty clothes is not fun in the winter. I also bring a few gels. One for before and one for during the run. There is usually water every mile or so on the course. If you have a race belt for your number you can bring that...if not you can pin it to your shirt( the race provides the pins). Hopefully we will have a beautiful sunny day

I had to bike on the trainer this weekend. It was first indoor bike I have done in over 3 weeks. I cant believe how fortunate we are to have warm temps.

Hi Friends!  I'm looking forward to the Foxboro race this coming weekend and to meeting some of you!

I had a good laugh at the scale this morning...  Same exact weight as I was last Monday and the Monday before that and the Monday before that...  I seem to lose 1-2 lbs. during the week and then am back to my 162 lbs by Monday am.  It's like freakin' Ground Hog Day, ugh!  I'm not sure if this has something to do with my long runs typically being on Sundays (I always feel like I weigh more the day after a long run, not sure if this is fluid related?) or that Sunday is also my "cheat day".  I don't really go crazy or anything on my "cheat day" either, so not really sure what is up??

Glad you are down a lb., Marianne!!  Wish I were seeing those same results!!

As far as race attire goes for me this weekend, I'll most likely wear my running tights, a short sleeved tech shirt and a long sleeved run pullover that I've been wearing lately and really love.  Possibly hat and gloves depending on race day temp.

Greetings.   Weird weather! cold this morning, but warm and wet this afternoon ?!    My schedule has less ST and very light running this week, am hoping to have a little umph in my legs for Sunday's event.  I'm glad for the input on what to wear; I tend to overdress and then am stuffing accessories in my jacket pockets and tying it around my waist, etc, what a mess.  I like GU gels on long runs, too.

Weight = down 1# from last week; am doing OK with the daily water.

Hi everybody. Dressing for the weather is a concern as I sweat A LOT. I usually wear these long running pants when it is cold. I usually wear a headband or ski headband rather than a hat because my head always sweats the most. I've learned a couple of thin layers is better than one heavy. As for weight last week I lost 3.2 and this week I was up 1.5. Going to the y after work to ride inside

Haha we will see! I'm up to 9 miles running right now, but I will tell you that I haven't been doing too much running outside, so that will surely slow me down a bit!

Courtney, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Running is a great, healthy outlet for that.

I also got my wetsuit the other day (Neosport, fits me very well!) and I'm now looking into getting my first road bike! More updates to come on that process...

Mav, definitely let me know when you guys figure out a meeting place/lunch place for afterwards. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Didn't get to the y in time. Didn't get out of work until after 9. So I rode my bike in the comfort of my living room :-) tough day at work. Basically they told everybody we need to reapply for our jobs and we need to have our resumes ready by Monday.

Nancy, sorry to hear about your job. SO stressful!Good job getting on the bike though! Hopefully it made you feel better

I think its going to be chaos at Sundays race. I am pretty sure the running group that I belong to will have a table. Its called Tri Valley Frontrunners. I will hang out there. I will be wearing an orange vest....that should help a bit. I am going to pm everyone my phone number so you have it and can call me. As it stands now I am thinking of Chipolte Grill for lunch...after race beer....does this sound good? Its close to the venue.... I will post directions if this is agreeable.
