I'd like the scoop...
I live approx 20 mins from where the race was. Last year I trained during the hottest part of the day and yet race day still found me suffering from the heat.
So this year I did things differently (admittedly it was cooler this year but still fairly hot ).I have often heard it takes 7 days to acclimate to heat so I started the following 7 days out. I did NOT train during the warmest days. Have to admit in the 2 months before the race I ran just 3 miles, swam one time and biked 40 miles
I turned the A/C up in my house to 77 as opposed to the usual 74. I also did not use the A/C in my car and had one window down just a couple inches. It was truly amazing to me how well this worked. Within 3 days it actually felt a little chilly when I went outside and it was 75 degrees.
I also wore a long sleeve underarmour knock off shirt and poured water on the shoulders so it went down my arms. I really did not feel hot the entire day and I was out there a LONG time.
Might not work for you but might be worth a shot. I am a true believe now. |
