One week until my very first triathlon. I feel like my training has gone pretty well aside from being sidelined with a leg injury after my marathon. Going to do an easy bike/run brick tomorrow and then some really easy training the rest of the week. My masters coach sent me two easy swim workouts for this week. I will say I have focused more on the swim during my training so far since I feel like that was where I was the weakest. Being my first tri I am hoping to have a great time, learn from other veterans and finish standing upright. Are there any pointers out there anyone wish they had known before their first tri?

Oh!! Enjoy it!

1st Tri in a couple of years on Saturday. It rained like heck, but I had a lot of fun. I got 3rd in my new age group... 'course there were only 4 of us! No matter, I'm happy to be back. I had a big mental issue with the swim (bailed out of my last race at @ 50 yards) and I had to get that out of my head.

Hope everyone is well. Super busy lately but I love to read all your posts!

Only 2 1/2 weeks to go. This week is my highest volume followed by two weeks of taper. Feeling good as far as being trained but a little beat up from the volume the past few weeks.

That's about how you should feel leading into taper!

Hi there! I was wondering if I could join this group?? I hope I'm doing this right. First time on this site!

NAME: Dara Gernand

STORY: I have been doing Crossfit for the past 2 years on and off. I have always wanted to be a triathlete mainly for the accomplishment, not to actually compete but who knows! I recently signed up for my first triathlon and have just started training.

FAMILY STATUS: Single

CURRENT TRAINING: I am doing a 12-week beginner program.

Well my first 70.3 turned into a 69.1 due to some nasty rip currents, wind and wave action. Put down a nice bike split even though I had to change a flat at mile 36. First half of the run went pretty well but second half had some seriously painful IT band issue with my right knee requiring me to take some walk breaks. Considering all of the issues I had a great time. Seriously considering registering for Ironman 70.3 Austin in late October.

Good job, Wyatt!

Our area (SW Fort Worth) opened a new toll road Sunday.  There were celebrations all weekend.  Saturday they had a half mary at 7am then a 45 mile ride at 10 am as well as other distances but those are the two I did.  Very windy but a great day to run and ride.  Food, live music, etc., etc.

The off season should be just that – a time to rest your body, to rehabilitate injury, and to plan ahead on how to improve performance and prevent injury in the season to come.

The off-season is the best time to fine tune your skills and prepare yourself for the next season. It is also time for you to gain some strength and get a little rest after a long season of training.

If you develop a strategy for the off-season, you can go into the next season stronger than you ended the past season.
