This week is gonna be fun for me.  It's the highest scheduled training volume I've ever had in front of me, and I'm already exhausted since my last two days off were the two days before the half mary on the 3rd.

At least next week is only the second highest scheduled volume I've ever had

Whining about base training is the fourth discipline

As for the pushups, my max set keeps going up.  I don't get it, but whatever, I'll take it.  My initial test was 35.  My max set from week 4 (which is really my second week since I started on week 3) was 53.  This stuff works I guess.

Well, at least I'm good at one of them!

And, yes, clowns can be creepy.  A clown snuck up on my daughter and startled her when she was one year old, and now at 15 she still has issues with clowns.  Burnt clown doesn't smell like burnt lentils, though.  More like hamburger.  Laughing

Obviously it wasn't a vegetarian clown.

Question for people who use bike trainers -

It seems like my back tire bumps slightly against the trainer wheel once on every rotation.  Does this happen for anyone else?  It's almost as though there is a small lump in the tire, but as hard as I inspect the tire I can't see anything.

It's noticeable right as I start, and then as I stop when the wheel coasts to a halt.  While I'm riding I don't notice it.

Any ideas?  Thanks.

serendipity - 2009-01-13 1:45 PM Congrats on finishing your first half mary, Chris!  Are you going to put up a race report?  How are you feeling today?  How are the legs?

My legs were a little sore after my 2 hr drive home (getting out of the car was hard)

My legs yesterday and today are surprisingly good!

I didn't feel like working out Monday morning though, and I was up all night last night with a sick kid, so I missed this morning tooFrown

My tire starts to "bump" when I'm 30+ minutes into a trainer ride.  I assumed it had something to do with the tire heating up, and if I slow down for a few minutes it stops.  So its exactly opposite what yours is doing.  And I'm no help to you at all.  Tongue out

Have you noticed that children have incredible timing?  Mine sleep very well unless I really need a good night's sleep, then someone is sure to wake me up.  And the kids tag team with the dogs.

I'm sorry you missed your workout.  I hope your little one is feeling better.

Never had this problem on a trainer, but have noticed it on a ride once. Do you have a patch on the tires' tube?

mchally - 2009-01-13 8:31 AM I am on track for the push-up plan, but I missed most of my scheduled Oly workouts last week.  I had a friend from out of town staying with me and it kept me really busy...I only got 4 hours of sleep per night while he was here.  I have decided to start week one again.

Out of interest - what's a water trot?  I was looking at your log and trying to figure that one out.

Something to do with all the puddles around at the moment?

ummm, I need a better word...My route loops through campus and the start/lap/finish point is right next to where I park my car.  I keep a bottle of water on the trunk and take a few sips while I do an easy jog/trot around my car a time or two, put the bottle back on the trunk, and start the next mile.

When is your Oly scheduled?  Do you have enough time to start your plan over?  It sounds like you need to catch up on some sleep too!

I haven't decided on a race yet.  I am planing on starting the season with a few sprints.

I am doing BT's 16 week Oly plan

hmmm... this is one important bullet point from that plan:

Re-organize the program around to suit your schedule.  JUST REMEMBER to keep the short sessions and Off days around the Long sessions.  This will allow plenty of rest before and after the long sessions.  You don't have to do 'two-a-days' if your schedule doesn't permit.  Just reorganize this and train on 6 days instead of 5.  Although you will have to do two-a-days if doing the 3x program.  You will have better success if your two-a-days are split up in the morning and night sessions.

it fits into my schedule as much as anything else would.

I spent at least 3 hours figuring out how to place the workouts at times that work for me...and still have them broken up so that I would be getting the rest that I need.

Good idea but no...

After looking again today the bump seems to happen right near the spot where the valve stem is, but I can't see any kind of a lump in the tire there.

Oh well, it doesn't seem to interfere with my workout and my tires are fairly old anyway.  I think I'll just change the tube and tire when I take the bike back out on the road in the spring.

Strange.  I had a tick that I kept hearing one time.  Couldn't figure out what it was.  Then I flatted on the trainer.  Kept hearing the tick some more.... then I flatted again.  Turns out I had some little sharp piece of metal in the tire that worked it's way through and was popping tubes.

How's your training going, Bill?  Are you making it through your heavy workout load this week?

We finally got winter here, so I was out for another 20 degree run this morning.  (Didn't hate it.  I made it to 12 minutes before I looked at my watch.  Usually I start checking at 5 minutes.)  This weekend it's supposed to go below zero, so I'm thinking I might really have to go to the Y and use the treadmills.  So here's my problem.  I am really afraid of trying the treadmill for the first time, looking like an absolute fool because I don't know how to set it up, making it too fast and flying off.

Does anyone remember the scene from the Jetsons when George is walking Astro on that treadmill thing and Astro sees a cat and starts running and George ends up trapped in the treadmill going around and around?  I don't want that to be me. Embarassed

Well, I overslept this morning (which sounds odd to say when since I was still up at 6:15), but I've only missed an hour long trainer session.  I can make that up Friday night since the wife will be out of town.  I'll be moving the trainer indoors and will probably watch Monk while I ride.  Woo hoo... fun Friday nights!

Saturday is going to be the most interesting.  I've never ridden outside when it's below 50 degrees (have I mentioned I love the weather down here?), but it's looking like I'll have to this weekend.  And I need to do around 80 miles.

As for the treadmill, I just hit the quickstart button and turn up the speed to whatever I'm feeling.  The quick start only gets it moving to .5mph so you're not going to go zooming off of it.  Also, it always feels like you're going so much faster than the treadmill says you are (and when translated to road speed, you probably are), so don't get to discouraged.  I never run for distance on the treadmill for that reason.  Just for time.

As for the Jetsons, the bigger question is why was the treadmill hanging on the outside of the house that was built above the clouds?  Seems dangerous.

Any big weekend plans, training or otherwise?  I'm getting left alone (wife is going to Atlanta) so I hope it's warm enough to get in a nice long ride tomorrow.  I'm also planning on spending almost two hours on my bike with Monk and Psych tonight.

Maybe I should use it as a reward for getting my to-do list done.

Planning to do a fairly long trainer ride one day and a longish run the other day (5-6 miles).  I would like to do the run tomorrow but I'm going to base it on how my legs feel.

I haven't been able to do the pushups this week.  I hurt my ribs playing basketball last week and although they seem to be fine for running and cycling, the pushups are a little painful.  3 or 4 years ago I cracked a couple of ribs in a fall and every now and then I'll take a knock and damage the cartilage or something which is a pain for 2 weeks or so.

My wife and I are going house shopping tomorrow, which is kind of scary.  We can afford approximately a small cardboard box, so it's going to be interesting.

I'm worried I will be banned from making tri-related purchases!

I'm hoping my plans for the weekend involve catching up on some sleep.  It's been a tough work week.  I've already worked 55 hours this week, and it's not over yet.  I'm really tired today.  I didn't even get my push-ups done this morning.  I'll have to do them tonight.

Besides sleep, I have a run and a trainer ride scheduled.  I also have to teach yoga Saturday (subbing for another teacher) and Sunday (my regular class).

Daniel, good luck house hunting.  If you're patient the right house will come along.  I just got an email from the real estate agent who found our house.  He was a brand new agent when I met him, and my house was his first closing.  We closed ten years ago yesterday, and he was celebrating the anniversary.  We thought we would end up in a cardboard box too, but one day the right house came on the market and we jumped on it.

(But maybe you will have to cut down on the tri-related expenses.)

I hope everyone is having a great Friday.

OK, Weekend plans...

I did my run this morning and plan to do my pushups before lunch.

Saturday: Morning bike workout, cleaning my room, car, and doing laundry.  Taking care of some stuff at my parents house.  Maybe meet up with a friend....

Sunday: Church, grocery shopping, visiting seattle fabric for some supplies, more work at parents, write a paper for school...

Monday:  No School!!!!!  I am going to do some sewing projects-I will finish renovating my backpack I will make some more leashes.  I made one yesterday-it was super easy and fun.

Brook is modeling one here.

It has reflective material woven through the webbing.  when you add a bit of movement it is just a blur of light.   It makes makes me more comfortable with running in the dark.

Beautiful dog!  My brother has a springer that looks a lot like Brook.  She loves to run.

I like the reflective leash.  That is a great idea.  I'm always nervous when I'm out with the dogs at night.  I wear reflective stuff, but I'm afraid someone driving isn't going to see them if they're not right next to me.  I'm really impressed that you made it yourself!
