Solid food is just a pain in the butt to pack.  However, if I'm on a loop course with a pit area, I like bananas, almonds, cashews, potatoes, english muffins, dried fruit, plain sliced turkey, chicken, or ham, CLIF builder bars....  I'm usually OK with anything plain-jane and stay away from fruits with skins, unless you want to be making pit stops.

So basically if you're doing a loop, you just set up a buffet at one point?

No, no, I might have given the wrong idea here.  Mostly endurance rides are done on a loop.  I will ride for hours (several loops) on prepared liquid drinks (protein-carb).  When I come off course, I will snack on one or two of those solid foods.  I usually shoot for only 300 calories/hours and never more than 400 calories/hour.  While I'm sure I could do the entire race on liquid, solid food definately helps with taste and fulfillment.

I know...I was just teasing...Smile

Once you got into the turkey, chicken and ham though...made me think of a buffet line.  The only thing missing was dessert.

Alright, I thought you were kidding, but just wanted to be clear.  I would hate for somebody to actually make themselves a Vegas buffet during the race and then blame me when it didn't work out right Wink  We can't all have GI systems like Bill's!

Somehow I get a mental picture of Bill ordering a pizza on his bike...then asking the delivery guy to give it to him while riding...and the poor delivery guy on his moped can't catch him.

Scary, isn't it?  I keep thinking of him pulling into the gas stations and picking his hot dog off of those rollers!

No hot dogs guys - just pizza

Come on Bill, think about it.  Dog covered in mustard, onions, and sauerkraut.  Perfect cycling food!

Oh gawd!  I think he would leave gas bombs for everyone behind him!

I am stuck pages behind the rest of you just cracking up!  Laughing

I see a bunch of people are in for the April challenge...it should be an exciting month for me...so long as my body cooperates, my volume is going to be really high as I ramp up for my Olympic in May.

I'm already thinking

Swim - 35,000 yds (march goal 30,000 yds)
Bike - 400 miles (march goal 300 miles)
Run - 80 miles (march goal 100 miles)
ST - 8 sessions

I'm going to cut back my running to help allow for better recovery for the swim and bike.

I will probably skip this month because we are traveling for 10 days and I have TransIowa.  I could wimp out and just do bike mileage but that is no challenge

May I am shooting for a new swim record for me!  You guys helped me find my swim mojo and for that I will be forever appreciative!
Yay, Bill has his swimming mojo!

pdbman - 2010-03-30 3:05 AM Shhh.... Don't tell any one. I guess some people were updating the spreadsheet this morning, plus I checked the logs on some that didn't look like they were updating the spreadsheet and got it updated.  Someone on the bEASTies said they updated their spreadsheet from the logs this morning so hopefully it is accurate.  We're in the lead.  On some goals its a slight margin of .4%, on others by about 20%. Overall we're up by about 7%. Keep up the good work! We should have this unless they pull off some miraculous comeback! Just don't let the bEASTies hear or they may make some big push to try to beat us.

Sweeeeet thanks, that'd be me. I discovered to my great shock I'm only one bike short of 100% of total.

This has been a phenomenally cool team. I wish I'd been able to keep up more, but at least I'm puttin' in the sweat.

alrighty folks...I got a run done last night and a swim this morning.  All that I need to reach my goals is one more run and 2300 yards in the pool.

I think that I have it under control.

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttt's mmmmmmeeeeeeeeeellllllttttiiiiiinnnng!
I just got back from a lunchtime run. Its way too windy to run outside so I went to the Olympic speed skating oval. The season is officially over and they are letting the ice of the oval melt. They still have the two regular skating rinks but they don't keep the building as cool as they do when there is ice on the oval.  No more cool 60 degree climate controlled runs until fall and the season starts up again.  It'll still be cooler then the 100+ temps we have here in the summer though. I guess I'm just spoiled and I'm allowing the oval to bring out my wimpy side.

Just kicked off my shoes and noticed something I don't remember experiencing before. First thing that surprised me is that i got it from a short 3.3 mile run. Not from my long run this weekend but on a short run. The second thing that surprised me is the location. I have a blister on the side of my heel. Not on the bottom or the back, but on the side. Its not big and doesn't hurt. Its just a surprise. Anyone had something like this before?

I've had one there...I was wearing a new pair of trail running shoes and jogged a half mary in them.  Yah, not the brightest idea ever.

fortunately the blister wasn't that bad...I later returned the shoes because the area around the heel was too stiff/curved in a little bit and put a wee bit of pressure on the inside of my heel.  It wasn't enough to notice at the store or on short runs, but I sure noticed it 10 miles into the Half marathon.

also...look at how your socks are made.  Some socks have a change in thickness on the side of the heel and that could possibly be what is irritating your foot.

That is awesome - how far from work is it?  Do they charge?

Is about a mile from my house (and right next to the gym) so its easy to escape to when I am working from home. They charge $99 for a family membership which allows you to go running on the track any time that they are open and to skate for free any time they have open skating. They also have hockey games, figure skating, curling, and speed skating lessons as well as other activities. This month they also had a thing for St Patrick's day, a big luau last weekend to celebrate the end of the season, and something else going on this weekend for Easter. Its money well spent as far as I am concerned.

It has been a while since I've had new socks.  Maybe its time for "out with the old and in with the new."
