Last summer I got a flat, had a spare and a C02 cartridge but they never work for me. So some how the spare had a flat too, had to call the wife for a ride.

Had a good workout yesterday, back to the walk/run method for a while.  The calf still feels tight and sore.   Not sure if that is from the first run in two weeks or still left over from the strain.  I did feel some twinges in my left shin area, hopefully those will go away.

My weight sessions have ramped up a little.  I am now complete with the 4 weeks of Anatomical Adaptation (as the Triathletes Training Bible) and I am now getting into the Muscle Development phase.  I only do 3 sets of 3-6 reps for the major muscles (back and quads) and I can tell today.

This morning was supposed to be a swim workout, but we got hit last night with some ice rain and sleet and most everything was closed.  I think that my time at work will be short as well since we are scheduled to get 12-14 inches between 1 pm to day and tomorrow night.

Hope everyone else is getting their training in.

BTW, I just learned the quickest way to change a flat tire.  There is a great video on BT, just search tire change.  It was quick and easy and I used it to put on my trainer tire (old tire that can take the trainer abuse).  I also want to get a CO2 cartridge and carry that with me, must quicker than a pump.

Eric,

Sure hope you can get your running back on track.

Glad we are missing the snow storm everyone is getting to the south, we have gotten enough snow already this year.

If you use the C02, I would also carry a back up pump. At least until you get good at using it.

Thankfully, the worst of the Blizzard of 2011 went well to the south of where I live.

Hit the treadmill again last night - and I swear this is the last time I will gloat here for a while - but got a full two mile run in with a negative split 12 min, then 10 min.  It was intentional since I didn't want to flame out.  First full 2 mile run since, well, probably High School, over 20 years ago.

It felt good. Now I have to tack on another 1.1 miles for that Sprint in 127 days.

Nice run! Keep up the great work.

Blizzard went south of us too. I like snow but glad we didn't get hit by this one.

My cold went away for a couple of days then came back as an awful cough that is still hanging on.  Sorry I haven't been around much, but I'm not doing any training and I feel really guilty reading all your posts!  I can finally take a deep breath and I'm going to try to find my way back onto my treadmill soon.

Of course, I have been doing something - shoveling snow!

Nice job! I remember when I was learning to swim finding my balance was a big part, and think that kind of goes together with learning to float.

So does anyone else take vitamins? I take a lot, some times I think I am taking more than I need. I take the following:

A multi vitamin, calcium, C and magnesium.

I was thinking about the Omega. I eat a lot of tuna, I wonder if that makes up for not taking that.

I had a really good swim workout today.  300m warmup with 300 ladders (100,200,300,200,100) with a 100m cooldown.  There were some others in the pool with their coach and I got a little competitive to try and beat them, didn't work.  But a great workout anyway.

Second big thing is that I called the sport medicine doctor.  I have never been to one but apparently the one I was recommended takes care of all the student athlete from the local high schools.  Hopefully, he can help me with my tight calves and potential shin splints.  I don't think I will be running the 5K a week from Saturday, but you never know.  I just don't think it is worth the 60 minute drive to Indianapolis just to run 2 miles or so and walk the rest, in 15 degree weather.  Who knows, I might get motivated and give it a shot.

Hope everyone got their training in today.  We just got the snowplow through the neighborhood for the first time since we got all the snow on Monday.

Take care

Went MIA again for a little while. Had some family issues to deal with but all is well now. Been keeping up with the training but I'm still having issues with my breathing while swimming. My technique has progressed well though. I'll get the hang of it soon enough.

Tomorrow will be my first and last swim of the month with my training team since the pool will be shutting down for maintenance. Our trainer said he would check if we can drop in to any of the other sessions over the next 3 weeks. The pool at my gym still isn't open yet. I'm a bit disappointed with that since I would like to swim 2 or 3 times a week so better my progress. I think I will put more emphasis on swimming before my first race in June.

I did go to the gym Wednesday afternoon. Decided to do a quick speed drills since I didn't have lots of time to train.

For supplements, I take glucosamine and chod***, b12, flax seed omega, and a multivitamin.

I don't know about everyone else, but the weather has been <special> up here.  Shoveling is now a strength exercise for me, given I am spending 3-5 hrs a week on it!

Unrelated but sort of fun; I was able to swim the length of the pool without breathing today... I have never done that before.  Swimming is my weakest area, so it is pretty cool to see improvement as there is a ton I can improve on!

Got a Nordic ski race in today. 13 1/2 miles at just over 9 min/mile pace. That put me at the back of the pack where the trail was beat up.

Lenny,

Great job on the CC ski race.  I would be WAY behind you.  I don't think I have put on a pair of CC skis since middle school.

I had a great swim workout today.  First time this off-season hitting 1600 meters.  I found a nice swim workout with 800 meters of drills and it worked great.

A big milestone for me tomorrow, I hit the Big 40.  Maybe that is why I have been working out much more this off-season than last.

Hope everyone has a great day of training so that we can enjoy the big game tomorrow.  Go PACK!

OK, page two for out group, we can't have that.

I hope that everyone is getting ready for the big game.  I thought I would do a first for me today, YOGA with my wife.  I did 30 minutes of Yoga (used a DVD) just to get a workout in today because I know I will be eating some food that is not really good for me (although I do take one day of the strict diet a week).

I am planning the next weeks training and getting ready to hit it hard.

It's great to read how everyone is doing !!  Especially those who are new to the world of triathlon. We have all been where you are and once we did our first race we were hooked.  I did my first race 8 years ago and have been hooked ever since.  Triathlon was given me the chance to travel to alot of cool places and meet alot of great people.  My goal is to be one of those guys who at 75 is still showing up at the start line (and hopefully the finnish line).  Everyone keep up the good work.  Those of you who are learning how to swim, keep at it.  It took me awhile to feel comfortable in the water.

Was finally able to get back on track today.  Busy work schedule last week.  I got a great brick in today.  30 mile ride followed by a 9 mile run.

I think I made the statement a couple weeks ago that if the Packers win the Super Bowl, I would stick it out and do the full 50K Birkie.

Well I have less than 3 weeks till race day.
