No problem Nicole, I'm sure I will be down there quite a bit this summer looking for a training buddy. What an amazing course, I can't wait to get back! How did your half marathon go?

Walinda

Glad you enjoyed the course.  Send me a PM and let me know if you are coming down again and we could meet up to ride if you want.

half marathon was fabulous - then I biked 40 miles after

Have a great day

Nicole

bcagle25 - 2012-05-29 10:18 PM So what do you think people...anyone interested in a beer mile the morning after on the trail in front of the terrace? You would think I am kidding, but I am not.

What the heck is a beer mile?

Thanks SS Minnow!

Drink a beer and run 1/4 mile, repeat 4x. My friend did it at IMFL a few years ago, clocked in a 6:45 mile...and didn't win!

Or you can be tough like the aussies

He had to drink 4 beers and run 1 mile and he made it in 6 minutes and 45 seconds??

I'm in if you would consider drinking the beers and not running!

Hey guys I am doing a video documentary for my training into IMWI this year. Here is my first video, should be posted weekly, or bi-weekly depending on how busy I am at times. Hope you enjoy, and if you have any ideas on how to improve let me know!

Dude...awesome video & thanks for the motivation.  The AC/DC really fired me and makes me want to throw some of that on my Ipod (been a while since I've listened to them).  Keep up the good work man!

Oh, and I LOVE beer as much as the next guy and would be willing to join you the day after IM.  However, I don't think I'm going to want (or be able) to run that next day.  So I will come for the beer, but not the run.  Unless somehow I find some magic in my old sticks.

I think I've got the beer chugging part down from my years as an engineering student.  Not so much the mile in 6:47 part.

Great video, although the sections where you are riding 20+ mph and are videotaping make me nervous!!!  I would total bail if I were to try that (for the slower swimmers and good cyclist, pass me with care on the bike course!!! - so far I've only actually taken myself out, never anyone else).

I'm definitely interested in a beer mile if I'm able to walk/run the next day.  This will be my first full Iron.

I'm headed out to Madison to ride the loop a few times this weekend, can anyone suggest a good place to park, get the bike off the rack ect...? I'm avoiding the stick, so I assume somewhere in Verona, just not sure where.

Ill be out there early Saturday morning too. Gonna shoot for two loops. You can park on the street across from SBR coaching. It is right on the loop.

May was off to a rocky start.  I missed a few days at the beginning of the month due to being sick and frantically trying to recover in time for a half marathon (didn't recover, but didn't finish too badly - 6 minutes off my goal).  I missed or shortened a couple of other workouts due to work, but overall may went okay.

Bike:16h 11m 23s - 419.91 KM
Run:15h 03m 36s - 145.51 KM
Swim:7h 11m - 17600 M

I think in June I will be continuing to pick up the bike mileage and keeping the run close to where it is at now.  I have an olympic race coming up in June (17th) but I'm pretty sure I won't be doing any taper for it.

Happy training!

okay, another course question for the locals or the ones that have raced before.  Is the decent on Garfoot road closed to vehicle traffic?  I was riding the course last night on the computrainer (real course video) and notice that a lot of riders were taking the shortest route around the corner (i.e., riding on the wrong side of the road  - there was no yellow line, so I supposed technically they weren't breaking that rule).

I think I would feel a little better about that decent if there were no cars/trucks on it.  it looks kind of scary!

The road is not closed.  In fact, I don't think many roads are officially closed on the course except those coming off of the Beltline (John Nolen Drive).  Having said that, I haven't experienced a car on Garfoot during either year I did this race.  There aren't spectators on the descent of Garfoot because people are moving so quickly which limits the traffic.  There are MANY cars on Midtown due to the sub divisions and specators which has been a source of frustration for some.
