Hey everyone.  I am going to have to pullout of the Mentor group this Spring.  Please know it is nothing anyone has done or said.  I just can't keep up with everything and I feel like I can't contribute as much as I'd like to given my time limitations.  Thank you for the opportunity to be part of this group.  Keep after it everyone!!!

Brian (AKA TRIGUYBRI)

Brian how 'bout just a temporary leave of absence! Hope to see you on here again soon!

What is a reasonable expectation of improvement? I want to improve my times by 10% over last year, is that reasonable? I am redoing 2-3 of the 4 I did last year(1 sprint and 2 olys).

Last year was my first year. Started training in probably March of last year.

Had a beast of a workout today!  I hit the treadmill and really pushed the speed.  I ended up averaging about 10.5 miles an hour and hit speeds as high as 8 mph - which is a huge improvement over where I was 2 months ago when I was walking for one minute and then running for a minute.  To be honest, I put too much energy into the run because when I got into the pool I felt like I was going to die.  But I managed to dig down deep to get a swim workout in...

Today's swim workout was probably my most satisfitying yet.  I took your all's suggestions and crafted an interval workout with negative repeats.  So after warming up and figuring out my T pace, I did 9 100's of negative repeats and ended up swimming a lot less but a lot harder than I usually do.

The best part was the time I was able to hit on my 3 to last repeat.  My goal for April was to get my 100 time from 2:35 to 2:30.  I was stoked to actually clock a 1:50!!!  To celebrate the accomplishment, I enjoyed a Harvest Special Ale from Southern Tier Brewing Co... malty and hoppy... good.

Tomorrow, I plan on getting a bike ride in before work.  Hope all is well with the group...

Wish there was a like button...nice job!

In my opinion - it depends on what kind of shape you were in last year when you did them and how hard you are working now.  But I think 10% is attainable - especially for the longer OLY.  Let's say your time from last year was 1:40 - a ten percent improvement would be 10 minutes.

Frankly - I think you could improve by 20% if you had a tasty beer waiting for you at the finish line.

Get on it!

When I win the lottery, that is one I want to do! As an added bonus, there are tons of breweries around SF area!

Can't wait to see your write up!

Well my training volume is up and my consistency is up.

20% would require a 6pk at least and it would have to be ice cold!Smile

I stepped on the scale this morning and discovered that I had dropped below 200 pounds for the first time in more than a decade...  I never want to go back!  63 pounds lost and 30 more to go.

Hmm... which beer will I have to celebrate!

I have one June 17th A sprint, but the bike is 18 miles so a little long.

I'm tempted to enter a sprint on May 19th since I'm getting antsy, but I think I'll just wait.

I have a 10k on the 13th of May.

I've been thinking improvement by sport when I think about how I want to do vs. the last time I did one 4 years ago.  I don't think my swim will improve much, but I'm hoping for a significant bike improvement - like 20%.  Run I'd be happy with a 10% improvement- but I need to get working if I want that.

10% seems very reasonable, especially if your training volume and consistency is up. That extra race experience is helpful as well.  I saw my biggest improvements from my first season to my second season, mainly because I figured out to train better and just an extra year of an endurance base was good to have.

I've got my first one in two weeks.  I've only swam once this year and been on my bike outside a couple of times. I wish I could cram for tri like I did for exams in college. It'll be an interesting one for sure

In my defense, I do have a half marathon on Saturday that has been taking up my focus

As I alluded to in a previous post I have a race this weekend and will be traveling to Columbus, OH to do so.  My brother lives out there so I conveniently picked a weekend to go see him that had a half marathon planned in the city. So I'll be on the road a bit and might be a little scarce around here.  Just wanted to give you guys a heads up

I think it is possible if you are willing to put the work in. Last season I made some major improvements mainly due to my increased focus on consistent training for the IM. I took about 15min off my best Olympic time from the 2010 season in 2011. Just get the training and the results will come!

I still don't have any tris definitely in the picture this season because this far my call schedule has not cooperated with being able to sign up for races. If I end up being able to sign up for Calgary 70.3 that might be my only race this year. Not sure yet!
