uhcoog - 2013-04-09 10:32 AM Got 112? ride is this weekend.

It's going to be a goat rope on the course Saturday.  My plan is to get out there early.

Should make all the locals REAL happy.

Just a reminder to everyone that The Woodlands Township is hosting an open water swim for both Ironman distance and the CB&I sprint distance triathlon on the 27th. They will have a 1.2 mile loop out there that you can do twice if you want. You won't be swimming in the canal/waterway, but it will mimic the initial part of the Ironman course. Register via the link below.

They are already pissed off.  Trying to get the area closed to cyclists via a petition.  Come race day the pros can absorb all the tacs and nails on the road.

Funny, Texas current traffic laws give cyclists as much right to the road as motor vehicles. No chance in hell getting a petition passed.

How can you close a road to bikes when cyclists have legal rights to be on roads? Even then, a petition has to go through a number of channels to take affect. The way government moves...maybe they will get it closed for 2014 :-)

I have never heard the term "goat's rope" before and had to look that one up.

I'm just repeating info, and the issue wasn't the likelihood of them banning cyclists - which is almost none - it was the fact that some residences that live in the norther portion of the bike course aren't happy.  What does that translate to?  I don't know but when you're riding and some dude in a pickup is pissed off and almost clips your helmet with his side mirror it never turns out good for the rider.

True.  I found at least one of the FB groups and have just been monitoring the posting.  I'm amazed at the anger.  Not saying this is a one sided problem either.  Seen more than a few cyclists riding 2 and 3 abreast on those roads which just isn't smart.

I think where they have teeth is the large groups not obeying the law. Most of it is MS150 riders who ride in very large groups and take up the entire lane. Running stop signs and cutting off cars don't help either. But the group being referred to just like to bitc* a lot. We had a rider go down not anywhere near their "turf" and they posted all about it. My concern is less about our rights to ride out there. That will never go away. Rather, them tugging on the ear of officials to deny Ironman road permits in future years.

So if I read through the guide right you don't have to wear your number on the bike.  This right?

No bib on bike needed. You bike will have numbered stickers that you will need to apply. Usually one on either side of frame and one on stem.

At the race meeting in Galveston this weekend the first speaker said you needed it for both (on your back during the bike, front during run), the second speaker said you only need it on the run. I quit paying attention after that.

Pages 3 and 11 clearly make no mention of race belts only stickers on the bike.  Page 7 seems to be more boiler plate copy and paste from previous publications than pages 3 and 11.

I hate wearing the belt on the bike.  It appears they got rid of that rule.

If you're in the Houston area and looking for something a little different this weekend, you may want to consider the Hog's Hunt Trail Run at Huntsville State Park on Saturday. I'm doing the 25k, which corresponds nicely with my long run for the week. This is a small, friendly type of event.....and like most trail runs it's more supportive than competative!

http://trail-race.com/stone/hogs_hunt/

The trails at HSP are non-technical trails. Most trail runners would describe them as fast and easy. Normal road shoes work just fine on them; you don't need any special gear. In general, these trails might slow you down 10-15 seconds per mile. The park should be pretty nice this weekend. The forecast is looking good and everything starting to open up and bloom!

I'm planning on riding my bike back to The Woodlands after the run, so that'll give me 50-75 miles on the bike, depending on how I feel and which way I go. It's an easy ride from HSP to FM 1375, which takes you to the IM bike course between Montgomery and Richards. To keep things on track, I'll probably do a 75-mile ride on Sunday also.

To my way of thinking, this'll be a nice change to the routine and keep things fresh. Plus, my 73-year old dad said he wanted to do the 10k, so it'll be a little bonding time for us old folks!
