Veteran 345 Ocean Springs, MS | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Open jmholzman - 2013-02-28 9:08 PM I am still recovering today so I didn't get to work out again, so as long as Jax ran for more than 15 minutes today she's taking the month (unless Sarah pulled a rabbit out of her hat). Kudos to Jax, she deserves it. I thought about pulling an all nighter on the trainer to get my 6+ hours in for the lead, but instead I slept like a baby, and racked up 0.0 hours of training yesterday!! I was just trying to get in your head. I'm really not that sneaky/crazy...or am I??? |

Veteran 288 | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Closed Well, I finally got my travel plans all set. I'll be in Portland, OR for 2 weeks. I leave on Sunday. I am soooo looking forward to starting my new/old career. I get to combine chemistry and sales, woo hoo. Now I have to figure out how training will fit in. I already mapped out a 2 mile run from my hotel, so out and back will be 4 miles or so. Looks like night running, I have to be in by 8 am. Probably eat before dinner is my current thinking. Anyone travel and train? Thoughts on what works best? Great work everyone on your training, I need to catch up. May the Legs Be With You! Tom |

Veteran 211 | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Closed I feel good about my February. I finished every single swim, bike and run workout I planned. I fell behind on the 2x/week pilates or strength training. It's harder to fit those workouts in, even though I know they are important. Keep plugging away in March and looking forward to the Carmel Sprint Tri on 4/14! Ready to SLAY it! Jax |

New user 129 Melbourne, Australia | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Closed What do you think a decent time would be to complete your first Olympic distance tri? I was thinking about trying to get it done in under 3 hours. Swim should be easy enough (not sure about the current though), ride is a bit up and down but the run is flat. My sprint time is about 1:25 (for exactly half the distance). |

My sprint time is about 1:25 (for exactly half the distance). Sure under 3 hours is a good goal! given your sprint time for exact half, I'm going to say you should be 2:53 as a target, Why? Sure longer distance DOES mean have to take a slower pace, BUT you are still only going to have two transitions. so you are not going to double that part. |

Veteran 310 | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Closed Managed to run 8 miles yesterday, longest so far and though I had pain, it wasn't too too bad. The last mile was tough but I paced really consistent with my intervals, so I thought that was pretty good. Go back to the dr. Tomorrow for the results of my MRI so hopefully he just says its medial tibia stress syndrome and I can keep on training cause the half is in 3 weeks, yikes! At least after running the 8 I feel I have a chance of finishing! Hope everyone's having a great weekend! It's beautiful in nc today, might try to get the family on a bike ride! Veteran 493 Chicago, Illinois | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Closed Got out to work out for the first time in a week. 5 mile run, nice and easy. First mile legs felt heavy, haven't been eating well obviously, was worried I wasn't going to have the energy to make it through. But started to warm up to it. Had a good breakfast and dinner today, should be good to get back into the groove of my previous schedule tomorrow. In other news, it took a 5 mile jog after a week of the stomach flu, but I actually observed a 1 in the first digit on the scale today for the first time in about 10 years. I like 205 as a weight, haven't been targeting 200, so not really concerned about keeping it that way. But still, was a new sight. |

Veteran 280 Syracuse, NY | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Closed Hey Guys, I have been missing in action. Took the family on a quick trip to an indoor water park 2 weeks ago and got pretty sick. GI type of sick, that knocked me out for almost a week. I got into the swing again this past week, but didn't log anything until tonight. Race schedule is still pretty much up in the air for me. The only thing I am pretty sure about doing is the Mightyman Montauk the last week of September.
Here is what i am starting to put together May 5th Mountain Goat 10 Miler June 8th Paige's Butterfly 5K July 13th Mini Musselman Sprint Tri August 11th Cazenovia Sprint/Olympic Tri August 31st Skinnyman Sprint September 28th, Mightyman Montauk 70.3 October 20th, Empire Half Marathon |

Veteran 310 | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Closed Doc says the mri doesn't show stress fracture, not even much medial tibia stress syndrome, so the pain must be muscle/soft tissue. Guess I need to suck it up and keep going! Only 20 days until the half!

Veteran 493 Chicago, Illinois | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Closed I'm in a funk. [Eeyore] I had the stomach flu for a week. Went for a run on Sunday and was excited to get back into the swing of things on Monday with a swim and a bike ride. Showed up for Masters in the morning to see a sign on the door saying classes were cancelled at the last minute, one coach was sick and other was unavailable. Night class was still on so I was hoping to make it to that. Still might fit in swim and bike ride if I could get out of work early. Couldn't get out of work early, and couldn't get in bike ride. Great, another day of rest after a full week of rest. Tuesday wanted to run but after 4 hours of sleep (kids might be getting sick again - awesome) couldn't muster it, besides which work kept me busy. Might be able to run during lunch tomorrow, but if I don't get it in during lunch I won't have time for anything else at any point. So even though tomorrow is swim and bike day, neither are going to happen. Neither will have happened for over a week and a half at this point. Thursday it's looking like I may be able to get two solid workouts of my choice in, so that's good. Friday I can at least run, maybe bike or swim. But the way my month is shaping up so far I doubt it (yeah I'm feeling very Eeyore). Next week I'm travelling all week, but I'll be doing physical labor with a lot of PT so that's good but none of it is tri-specific so I still need to fit in my tri workouts. I don't know how this will work. If all goes well I'll get all the swim/bike/run in I want I'll just be tired from work work. But the family will not be there so I don't have much excuse to not take all the time in the world. Meanwhile the tri is 4/14. That's a month away, but at this point I feel like I haven't worked out in a month and after this work trip it feels like I've got a week until the tri. Not accurate, but it just feels like I don't have as much time left to kill it as I'd like. [/Eeyore] Alright, that's done with. Going to do what I can to focus on the training from here on out, one day at a time. The reality is I was doing very well before this stomach flu. I got derailed for a little bit, but I'm still in good shape and I have plenty of time. |

Life happens, even to triathletes. Sometimes life/work/family gets in the way of our training. So, we muddle through as best as we can until the storm passes and then hit it hard when it's clear. Do it...wait 'til it clears and then hit it hard. Meantime...do what you can do and trust in the training you've already done. Besides...it's a long time until 4/14. That's the date of my A race too. We're going to kill it together!! |
