McLuvin - 2011-02-06 9:50 PM 2 1/2 hour trainer ride and a Pack Superbowl! I am beat.

2.5 hours, awesome.  I get super bored at 30 minutes.  Not looking forward to increasing the time, but I need to.

Lumber Dad - 2011-02-07 8:58 AM I think I made the statement a couple weeks ago that if the Packers win the Super Bowl, I would stick it out and do the full 50K Birkie.

Well I have less than 3 weeks till race day.

I almost forgot you made that comment.  Good luck, you will do fine.  Congrats on the big Packer win, I am happy that they won and not the Steelers.  Althought, the Colts winning would have been better for me.

This is my first year on the trainer and I know that it is really boring, but the quality of the workouts is really good compared to my outside rides. Where I live it takes 20 minutes just to get to a place where you don't have to stop at a light every 3 minutes, literally, so an hour ride outside consists of 20 minute warm up and 20 minutes hard and 20 minutes cool down, very frustrating. I try to break up the monotony with the ipod and action on TV with the captions, too bad football season is over, as it is really good for making the time go by. I also DVR'd the past Ironman shows that were aired on New Years day. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate them.

Well, I had -11F this morning for my run. Need to dress in layers.

But if you are trying to run on ice, there are a lot of products that you can slip over your shoes to help with traction and can be found in most farm & home store or sporting goods store. I suppose they might be harder to find in TX. I also took an old pair of running shoes and screwed sheet metal screws into the bottoms for traction. I think I have seen directions out here some where of how to do that.

McLuvin, As for how to make the time go by faster on the trainer. What I usually do is play Tiger Woods golf on my PS3, makes the time go by faster, but I don't get a very good workout. It is more of a recovery day on my off running days.

Jorge's interval workouts are much better. You spend more time watching the clock for your next pick up. So it is less mind numbing peddling.

I am with the interval crowd for long workouts; I play with small changes in heart rate too (5-10 beats per minute) to simulate small, rolling hills.

Bad week of workouts... the flu bug found me!

Page two again, where is everybody?

Had a good weight session today (53 minutes) so I should be feeling it tomorrow.  Tomorrow was supposed to be my first 5K race, but with the recurring calf pain and potential shin splints, I am not going to run the race and will be seeing the Sports Medicine Doctor on Monday.

I will either run my 4 x (2W/4R) or swim 1600 meters.  Sunday will be a trainer day, just to top off the week.   I really was not feeling it this week and missed my workouts for Wednesday and Thursday.  Hopefully, my motivation will be better next week.

Good Monday morning all.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend of training. How are all the training plans going?

I have two weeks of skiing left, then I can get back to the pool again and see if I can still swim.

Today was the dead line to switch from the 50K to the 23K ski race. Looks like I am going to stick with the 50K.

Hey everyone, sorry I've been away for so long but I'm back now. And I'm even more enthusiastic then before since it's real now. I registered for both my races yesterday!

2011.6.11 - Ottawa River - Sprint Distance
2011.9.3 - The Canadian - Olympic
Distance

I'm still having issues with my breathing in the swim and my gym is FINALLY opening the pool next week so I'm thinking of concentrating on my swim for a few weeks. What do you think would be too much? 3x per week? 4x per week?

I'll read through a bunch of the posts that I have missed over the last few weeks and reply over the next couple of days.

life jumps in from my end

Ill post an encouraging note from my friend:

"so much love to you and many prayers for your family ...

I don't know what it's all about either, except that today is a gift, and we get to share it to truly enjoy it ... "

30 weeks training plan starts today with 3200m swim. The last 4 weeks have been really tough with illness throughout my family, so I am glad to have something to return the focus.

Sorry if I missed it before, but what is at the end of 30 wks for you?

Tonight is a return to workouts; a nasty flu hit me last week, and I am finally comfortable not coughing on everyone!  I did not like missing a week, as my rhythm was destroyed, but I really could not do much about it!

It will be really nice to be able to get outside someday as well... snowbanks are making the roads around here a bit too dangerous for runners, to me at least.

Unrelated question... what is the most enjoyable/fun event you have ever done?  Mine is the 1999 Chicago Marathon; it was cold, but great crowds and energy!  Just curious.

30 weeks to IMWI

Chicago Marathon was also one of my favorites, it was my first Mary and is such a fun race as long as you don't mind not having any space.

Glad to see everyone hard at work on training plans.

Sozzie, I would think swimming 3x a week would be enough, I have never done 4x a week.

Sidewalks are slippery here too. With the melting during the day and frozen in the morning.

I would have to say my most memorable event was IM Wis. Not sure if it was the most enjoyable at the time, since it rained all day.

Mt biking by Lake Tahoe was more enjoyable.

My swimming and biking are going good. Hoping to get outside on the bike this weekend! Trying to get some weight-bearing endurance like elliptical and walking without foot pain. Starting pretty slow, at least the foot can tolerate 15' on the elliptical.

Keep up the good work all.  Did my first 20 minutes of trainer riding last night.  First time on a bike in at least 15 years.  Lots of work to do between now and June 5.  Thankfully, I am built for riding.

Then I went and did it today.  Submitted both the registration form for my first tri and also for the 5k as part of the Green Bay Cellcom Marathon Weekend three weeks ahead of the tri.  First organized race in 20 years.

Now I am scared that I will flame out in the 5k and be in the wrong mindset for the tri.  Somebody tell me I am just being paranoid!

You can do it, just start out slow and enjoy the run and the people.

I just got an email from Green Bay, the 1/2 & full marathon are sold out. Guess that means I won't be doing GB this year. I have been working on this ski race that I haven't thought of anything else.

Glad I already have my Boston Marathon done, looks like it will be harder for the average runner to get in.

Never heard of it, but it looks like an interesting concept.

Yeah, the Boston thing is really nice.  The sell out got a ton of press up here.  Are you ready for the XC race?
