mchally - 2008-12-14 10:54 PM the denim quilt isn't anything special as far as quilting goes-it is entirely sentimental...and cozy. it is backed with a heavy weight flannel.

I have the attention span of a jack russell terrior. There is no way I could quilt.

It took me 2+ years to piece the top.  I then sent it out to be quilted by a professional. Ten years later I still haven't finished it...I misplaced the binding.  Undecided

Ive madwe a couple of tops but never got as far as learning how to piece it all together and quilt it into an actual quilt...

Then again I would need a sewing machine that isnt on its last legs too...

I bet all you need to do is take the machine in for a little rehab work... I still sew on a 1973 singer my mom bought from sears when she found out she was pregnant for her second daughter (me )   NOthing compared to mom's computer monitored "plug and sew" but I can do a lot on it, you just gotta be creative (and careful)

hehe well i inherited mine from my Nan so its definatley not new... not sure how old it is but I would guess 70s at best?

I borrowed one from a work colleague years ago and it was so old it was mounted on a wooden block... pretty sure that thing was a Singer and completely indestructible!

Seriously, find a good repair shop for your Nan's machine and then take good care of it after that... It will last you forever... You may spend a few dollars to get it going, but it can be well worth it.

I love putting quilts together (when i have the time) it's like building my own puzzle and then putting it together.

mchally - 2008-12-14 10:46 PM And it wouldn't be my room if there wasn't a penguin or two (or twenty) hanging around.

Ever since the movie 50 first dates I have wanted a pet penguin

Not me-they are messy. Have you ever seen a penguin's habitat(natural or otherwise)? they don't just poop, the ejaculate their guano-there was a study done that actually measured the force at which it came out. I don't remember the number, but it was ridiculous. If you look at a pic you will see colorful guano radiating out from the nest in all directions. I wouldn't suggest getting withing 5 feet of one of their nests. You'd be in range.

But the little warm weather ones are so cute

Hey Cat... have you had any experiences with the little blues? I hear that some people compare them to rats in New Zealand.

Mike-Little blues (or Faire Pengiuns) live under peoples homes in Cat's neck of the woods. The scurry around spreading their fishy guano as they go.

Don't get me wrong, I love penguins, but I am not blind to their faults.

haha I dont consider them rats they are really cute!!! Then again I think penguins are just adorable so Im not the one to ask...

Ive never lived any where they have been a problem although I believe there were little groups in some of the areas I lived!

They are really cute!

blue

Awwwwwwww!!!!  So cute .

OK, I just popped back in to see if there was baby news and say goodnight.  I finished my playlist.

don't feel bad... I started a baby quilt (classic Holly Hobby fabrics) over two years ago... I've got all the blocks done... just need to piece it together and have it quilted... thinking that next year I'm going to finish it... better before she graduates from high school...
Then I've got the fabric all purchased for another one that was born two years ago as well... I'm so far behind
I can't count how many half done projects are floating around at my place (well, most of them are actually in my parents garage right now).

Lol - I havent done a puzzle in YEARS!

It has been a while since I had enough space to even consider it.  I will need to get my room decluttered so I can start one for the holidays.

Every Christmas my family would go through a bunch of jigsaws together.  My grandma use to be really into them.  In fact, she did a puzzle exchange thing with a friend of hers in Australia.

Hey-I've got some really fun puzzles in a huge range of levels.  Let me know if you are interested.

Just got back from eating a MASSIVE steak dinner as part of The Blonde's birthday celebration... then we went to Target and hunted down 30% off tree ornaments. Mr. Dog is happy that we are home.

My leg feels pretty good tonight.

I LOVE steak... I indulged on Saturday night... swore it was still in my tummy riding Sunday morning though... I think I need to remember red meat = not good if working out early the next day.
