jhouse4 - 2012-05-01 8:20 AM What is everyone's training looking like this weekend? I am currently nursing a sprained ankle from a fall down the stairs. That said, I am going going to try to get in 100 for the first time this year on Sunday.

White Lake Half Iron this Saturday (5/5/12).  Forecast is for 91 degrees and not a cloud in the sky!  It's gonna be a real challenge, for sure!!

I will be cheering friends on at White Lake half on Saturday, but I will be on my bike as I have a nice 5 hour workout in the 90 degree heat, let the heat acclimation begin!

Getting pretty stoked on this race...it will be so different than my last two IM's which involved long drives, the kids etc. This time around its just me and my brother and 2 buddies flying in and kicking . Training has been solid the last few weeks. Ran 150 miles last month and rode about 500. No swimming yet, but that's fine. If I'm good for a 1:07 at AZ based on 6 weeks swim prep, I know I'll be as fast or faster in KY on the same training.30 days till the San Diego RnR with my wife...really looking forward to it.

WOT - 2012-05-01 12:18 PM Anyone have any more thoughts/conclusions on a "Compact Crank"?  I am in a 53/29 front and 11-29 in the back.  made the mistake of hanging at the LBS and talking about this Compact Crank.  Head is spinning, but I perked up when they said it would help with hills

I am running a 50/34 with an 11-28 cassette love it.

I'm running a 50/34 also.  Right now, I've got an 11-25 on H3 trispokes for a flat HIM course this weekend.  After that, I'm switching to Jet 50s (a little weight savings over the trispokes) and I have an 11-28 cassette on those wheels.  Gonna use that set up for hilly courses.

Up to 13 miles as of a couple of weeks ago until my IT band issues. Has anyone ever used KT tape for knee issues? How did it work for you?

26.2 Nashville Rock n' Roll marathon this past Saturday. Now switching gears to more biking miles. I sprained my ankle just over 3 weeks ago and used KT tape for the training runs leading up to the marathon and during the marathon. Very comfortable and worked wonders. Highly recommend it.

About 2 weeks ago I had done 14 miles preparing for a Derby Half Marathon last weekend.  For now I am just going to allow the plan to catch up to my running by continuing to run 12-14 miles on long runs until everything syncs again.

So out of curiosity what is everyone’s long runs up too at this point?

Just did 10 miles this past Monday and 13 on tap for next Monday.

Regarding KT Tape, I tried it when I had IT band issues but it didn't help too much for me.  My boyfriend swears by it for his knee issues though.  Look for Rock Tape though, it sticks and stays better.

For me this has been the hardest part of following the Iron FIt plan.  Running by time and not distance.  3x week still in the 1hr to 1hr 15 min range. not including the 30 min bricks 2x week.

That is my plan as of now.   :-)  I have done two ironman in a year before and have never had any problems with recovery.  I started taper for IM Texas this week.

I am not doing this race in 2012 but possibly in the future but figured I would ask this question anyway. Since its a TT start swim and they advise the swim cutoff doesnt start until the last swimmer is in the water (by 730-740am), does that mean that those last few swimmers have to complete the race in 16:30 or less to be in by the 17hr cutoff time or are they allowed to finish at like 17:10 (on the big clock) but still be considered finishers because its less that 17hrs from when they entered the water? I know this sounds kinda dumb but I am confused by it and just trying to figure out how this works. Thanks.

This is from the FAQ on Ironman Louisville's website:

With a time trial start, what is the official finish line cutoff time?
The finish line cutoff time will be 12 a.m. midnight regardless of start time.

As a side note your finishing time will be different than the time you see when you pass under the Finish line clock.

My longest run so far is 14, but I've done lots of 12 and 13 milers in the last few weeks.   26.2 on June 3rd will be my longest.     Other than that the longest I'll run is probably 18.   Longest bike will be 60 miles or so (3 hours on the trainer since I do ALL of my bike training on the trainer.)  I've found the key to happy training and a good race is frequency as opposed to distance.   I hate to do long training rides, so I ride the trainer 6 or 7 days a week for an hour to 3 hours each time averaging 150 miles a week.  Runs are similar...I'll peak at about 50 mpw on 6 runs a week.  I do know that my fitness has continued to improve over the last 6 months since I didn't take any time off, and my shorter distance times have come way down.

I'm really hoping to go sub 11 at this race.   Did 12:23 in my first in CdA last June, then 11:36 in AZ in November.   Both races I had runs that were less than stellar (CdA due to IT band pain that was brutal the last 12 miles, and stomach issues in AZ).   If I can pull together the 4 hour marathon I know I'm capable of (as opposed to the 4:45's I did), it shouldn't be a problem.  :fingerscrossed:

Thanks for the KT tape feedback! I had my wife put it on my knee for my long ride tomorrow and then I may go for a short run afterwards to see how it's working for me.
