TriAya - 2010-10-06 9:20 AM So, in spite of all the snafus (or because of them) I got upgraded to first class. BING! Home now, rockin' the Pop Tarts, and very, very happy.

It was a most joyous homecoming with the dog and the cats and DO NOT TOUCH MY POP TART.

Sweet!!

Yeeaaaah! I really enjoyed it.

And why is it something's so much more enjoyable when it feels like you're getting away with something?

Was that the nicer seat or the Pop Tarts? Given the choice of one or the other, I'd take the Pop Tarts every time. Brown Sugar and Cinnamon. I luv, luv, luv Pop Tarts.

Oh. Hi! I'm NJKim and a Ghoulie. I'm running a LOT this month and we're going to make you guys work it to keep up!

Grabs a pack and sneaks back to Ghoulie Thread.

NJKim - that is just wrong - frosted strawberry or cherry (possibly blueberry haven't tried those yet) - but not bs&c!!!!!

They even have multigrain ones now - healthy pop tarts who would have thought!

MetroMost aka Bill, you know I've got your back on almost everything but don't go dissing my choice of PopTarts or I'll be making you wear panties in public.

TriAya - 2010-10-06 3:51 AM Y'all ... I live the weirdest life. (Judi's like, yeah, uh hum, tap tap tap, so? This is news?)

Sooo ... I'm spozed to do a quiet little run to my folks' house, take care of immigration/work permit papers at the main office in Jakarta, did that the morning I arrived, and pretty much snoozed because I was still getting over being sick the rest of the time.

Of COURSE, the day I'm to depart, we got some CRAZY SHYTE going on!!!

I try to sort through a box or drawer of stuff each time I'm home (my mom's stuff, photos and the like mostly). My sister does too. So I'm ploughing my way through piles of [okay, not BORING, but ... uh ... cultural stuff, actually it's really fascinating and so many extraordinary shots in places among peoples that simply don't exist anymore] of prints, when ...

I come across a REALLY decrepit manila envelope. I pick it up, and EWWWWW! Piles of yellow dust and the bodies of dead weevils spill out onto my running shorts. Blech. But what's this? A packet of really old black and white prints. Some even with curvy edges. Cute. Oh look, that's ... my brother! When he was a tiny baby! How cute. Paw paw paw. Oh look, that's ... Dwight D. Eisenhower? And that brown good looking dude next to him ... why that's my father's uncle! And they're at a dining table in a home! Who's that ... no, no, this must be taken from a book ... JFK?!?!? Getting a haircut? WHOA! That's Sukarno (Indonesia's first president) laughing with him in the barbershop! And ... OMG, that's my dad--he looks like 18! Actually he's in his mid-30s, but ... Nixon ... Nixon! No, he isn't president yet ... that's in California! Photo after photo after photo, my father's long career in U.S.-Indonesian and world politics unfolding before my eyes. I can't believe it. And it's just been sitting in this crummy envelope in this drawer of this dank cabinet in a corner of the upstairs living room.

I gotta put these in a protected location! These are priceless! So I'm frantically posting on BT about how I might store the photos; is there some sort of neutral material I can put them in now, in a hurry (I gotta leave in a couple hours!)? Answers. Good. Now, to remember the combination and find the key to the fireproof safe in the humidity/temp controlled room .... oh shatz.

There's only one person who knows where that key is, and it's my mother.

And she has Alzheimer's and she don't remember a damned thing.

This is how my morning started. Then it got interesting

Now I'm sitting at the airport, there's a hella storm breaking, and I'm watching the lightning sizzle and dance onto the lightning rods on top of the terminals. Kewl. That's gonna be my plane, fairly soon. I hope. All the flights have been delayed, every last one. I've NEVER seen the airport crowded like this.

And it was because of a phone call I made on the way to the airport. Silly me.

Yanti - I would try to find some acid free type things to put the pictures in. In scrapbooking we use acid free paper, glue, etc so the pictures don't turn the "yellow/brown" color when they age. It helps preserve them. I also know they make these little acid-free type folders that you can put trinkets and stuff in - not sure if you can find the stuff over there but that might help keep the pictures longer.

Its good to see you back home again Yanti. Hopefully your health will be back to normal soon. Long slow recoveries aren't fun.

That's totally awesome about those pictures. I don't know much about preserving them but there are three things I would do. 1-Get copies on archival paper. It needs to be acid free to prevent yellowing and deterioration but I don't know how to get them copied. Do you have the negatives? They might help in the process. 2-Get them scanned into your computer. Use a flat bed scanner. The scanners that suck them in to scan them can sometimes scratch the photo and ruin it (learned from experience on that one). 3-Look into getting a book made. With the people that are in the photos, I'm sure there would be a lot of interest all over the world. Are there any living relatives that would remember when these were taken that could write up a commentary or tell you about them? This is so awesome. I'm excited for your find.

rnihill - 2010-10-06 8:53 AM so...  wow!  You guys rocked the posting last night!  After running, I had to run out of here to get my daughter to dance class, run to the library, pick up daughter, make dinner...  and then my husband came home and sucked me into a long conversation about quitting our jobs and buy an apple farm.  Needless to say, I didn't get on BT last night...

Niagara County area?????  Or you could do grapes in the southern tier

No, but I'd love to be out that way.  This is an apple farm in Watkins Glen that my DH and FIL talked about buying a couple years ago but the guy backed out because he wasn't ready to retire quite yet.  The farm is right on the Seneca Lake wine trail.  Which is a good thing (for U-pick traffic).  And not so good, because I really like the Seneca Lake wine trail and I might be off doing that all the time instead of helping on the farm.

Nice - that is an awesome area.  go for it is my motto!

You can always go back to work but I doubt you would need to!  Everyone loves apples!!!

It really is a great area.  I went to college there and just love it.  My inlaws live there, which has it's advantages and disadvantages...  Basically, both my DH and I have desk jobs that we dislike.  And this is something he would really enjoy.  I have no idea what I'd rather be doing, but this seems as interesting as anything else I could do!  Really, the decision is going to be in the details...

If you have the money to do it and know what you're doing then I would say go for it. It sounds like a beautiful area to live and I think would be a little nicer than punching the clock for the rest of your life. I went to an apple orchard down in Arizona once that was pretty cool. They turned it into a tourist type place with a restaurant, store, etc. People would drive for hours to get there, plus it was right off the freeway and the restaurant and store brought in off-season traffic. It was a pretty cool place.

My wife picked up a box of strawerry multigrain. I tried one the next morning. They've been sitting for about two weeks. I'll stick with the good old fashioned originals.

Yeaaaaah ... no. I'm sorry, I'm not even that fond of the unfrosted ones, though of course I will gladly eat them

rnihill - 2010-10-06 7:42 AM Melissa, where did you go?

Maybe the crickets chirping lulled her to sleep at her keyboard.
WAKE UP MELISSA! TIME TO GET BACK TO POSTING! We have to catch up to those Ghoulies again.

dimplespoo - 2010-10-06 8:24 AM Good morning team. It is 57* this morning in Oklahoma and it is time for me to put on the running shorts and go for the run I skipped last night.

Have a good one.

Stacie

Sounds like the perfect running weather. Enjoy your run and be safe.

Oh Stacie what a PIGLET PUP in the Pics thread ... you can SEE how soft his fur is!!!

MetroMost aka Bill, you know I've got your back on almost everything but don't go dissing my choice of PopTarts or I'll be making you wear panties in public.

This, I'd line up for.

Besides, Br Sug and Cinn did rate highest in my Pop Tart poll, and I do find them mmmmmmmmm mmmmm

I honestly don't remember trying this flavor before. I might have to run to the store.

pdbman - 2010-10-06 10:18 AM Good morning everyone! I hope all is going well.

A little damp for my liking Paul but can't complain outside of that!!!

Hey Mr Bill. I hope all is going well this morning. So did you skip your ride to work with the rain? We had a little rain this morning too but it stopped now. It was just enough to clean the air. I wish I weren't working so I could go for a run. Nice clean, cool air on a fall morning. Which reminds me, I need to get out and do some trail running so I can check all the fall colors before its too late.
