Fred and Fit - Your team captains.  Once we get a list of all those in for the challenge we can pick teams

Working on RR and have it done.  I just need to fit it into the BT format.  I write mine in a style when I used to post my RR's to a running site.  Much more easier to work with.  Should have it up tonight.

Taking today as an SRD then back at it.  Managed a 45 min run yesterday mid-day to start acclimating to the heat for NOLA.  13 days to my HIM.  One more long run/ride and I am set.

Too quiet in here, what is everyone up to?

i'm in for the challenge. like eveyone else lives mine is in overdrive mode right now. my last three weeks consisted of packing, moving into a very small rental for the short term and attending the death of a very dear uncle. needless to say i'm ready for some settled down structure. currently i'm having trouble balancing the building up speed for my first 'A' race which is a sprint in May and building up endurance for my last 'A' race which is an Olympic in Sept. Thoughts/suggestions?

I'm in. The seven year winter should be winding down shortly. I need to catch up on the bike, so I hope to put in a bunch of bike miles this month.

JPF - You have at least 2.5 months between races and for your Oly I would expect that your peak time would be early August.  What is the max distances you are training for your Sprint?  Your speedwork for your Sprint will be a good transition to an Oly plan (which plan are you using btw?).  I see you have another sprint in June but as long as that is not an "A" race you can train thru it.

Official training plan starts this week, and is off to a roaring start.

Crappy weather, bike still in the shop, husband has the car (so no gym/pool), cranky baby = no workouts yesterday or today. Hoping to cram 6 days of workouts into the next 5 days.

My training plan calls for 3x week for swim/bike/run. How much will my training suffer if I only run 2x week? I don't think my knees can handle 3x week and running will be the first thing I will cut back on to avoid injury.

sFred - Don't sweat the 2x vs. 3x week runs.  You will find as your biking increases it will help your run.  Just make sure that the runs you get in target your goals.  Life gets in the way and you just do the best you can.

Will give the other stragglers another day then will start the challenge on Monday.

Had a super strong storm come thru yesterday as I was heading home.  Some folks still without power.  Stay safe everyone!

Ok- so what's going to happen now that the spring mentor groups are up? Are we going to move over there to pick up new people or will we just come to the archives to stay in touch? Not sure how all this works.

The logs will remain here but I am asking Ron if we can post a thread there to pick up more people.

Last long ride before NOLA done.  Work has been nuts and now another company has made me a pretty decent job offer.  Need to get this worked out.  Challenge starts Monday and will contact captains about teams.

A little too quiet in here folks, lets get this going!

So I got my first pair of clipless pedals and am getting the shoes tomorrow. Monday I will go to the bike shop and have the pedals installed and the bike fit checked and then comes another adventure- riding clipped in to the bike.

Heaven help me cause I really don't want road rash. I am scared, very very scared- lol.

Hope I can get it all down pat before my race. Wanted to get them sooner but the finances just didn't allow it. So we'll see.

Any advice?

clipless pedals do take time getting use to. while they are easy getting in and out of i still have to ???consciously think about it. my natural tendancy is to take me off off the front corner of the pedal. with clipless you have to swing your heel out to unlock them. sorry can't offer too much advice as i'm still getting use to them too. practicing in parking lots works but your are going to be thinking about swinging your heel out and aren't going to be thinking about everything else that comes along with riding. so i'd say just go out and ride. i'm not advocating being unsafe, i just think the best practice is the practice that simulates race situations/conditions.

Supposed to be in the 60's today so going out for my first long ride in in two years, as I was pregnant last season. Hopefully lots of spinning has kept me in good shape and I can hang with the group I am riding with, who are all training for an upcoming century ride.

Hope everyone has fun and safe training rides this weekend!

Hey all!

I am coaching my daughters softball team and today is their first game, actually a double header.  Should be fun.  Got 47 miles yesterday on the bike and it went well.

Fit - You will like the clipless pedals.  It will take a little practice to clip in/out.  The biggest piece of advice is to work on a mental cue to unclip when you stop.  Now that you got the pedals when are you going to come ride with me at Alligator Bayou?

Teams are Fit and JPF

vs.

sFred and Dorm

Randy is the the great equalizer and his logs will go towards both teams.  If another player joins we will decide who goes where.

Goal is to have IM distance by April 30th.  Team captains will track distances are report on SUNDAYS!  To make it easier we will start from today until April 30th.

Good luck folks and happy training!!

Gary,

I am not sure new members will find us here in the archived forum. What if we all just moved over to the spring new forum and posted a roll call for those of who are still members? Then you could let a few new ones in and close it when you see fit, but we'd be in the active forum.

Just wondering.

Either way, I'm still in. JPF are you ready to ride? I've got a ride planned for tomorrow. Gonna try and get some distance so we get off to a good start. Let's give Dorm and Fred a run ( or ride) for their money- lol.

Gary- I'll ride Alligator bayou with you when I'm not riding at a geriatric pace and have learned how to use the clipless pedals without falling over- lol. Seriously, right now I only ride at about 13-15 miles per hour so you'd be crawling. When I get a little better- I'll head your way. That'll be my next goal after learning the shoes/ pedals.

P.S. Good Luck Sunday! I am working the wetsuit peeling in the am and timing and chip removal at the finish line from 1-5pm. Think you'll finish in that time frame or will you be sooner? I'll listen for them announce you as an Ironman if you finish on my shift- ;-)

Everyone hold on, LOL!  Last night Ron (Moderator) asked me to post in the staging area and a thread will open up soon.  It will have all of the info along with the link to the group.  Watch for it in the beginner area soon.

NOLA is on Sunday!  Looking like it won't be wetsuit legal, there goes my time but not much I can do about it.  Also, sorry I haven't been around much but I have been interviewing with another company and last night accepted the position.

No problem Gary. I am happy with our little group as it is- I had just seen your post for new members and didn't think they'd see it- but for me it's all good either way- ;-).

Congrats on the job and good luck Sunday. I'll be rooting for you ;-).  I am excited just to be volunteering and seeing how it all works. Praying for good weather.

Randy and JPF,

Hope you guys are moving- we've got some booty to kick- lol. Randy sorry to have left you out of the original post. We certainly want your numbers- haha. Any chance I can bribe you into reporting a 25 % decrease to Fred- lol.

Ok, Ok- so we won't cheat. You guys just have to get moving. I guess I do too huh ;-).  I'll definitely pull my weight with the swimming. I am in a class four times a week and we swim at least 1500m but usually 2500m per class. It adds up quick. We'll probably be at Ironman distance by Saturday ;-).

You guys have to pick up the slack on the run- since I can't run and am a snail. I'll try but we can count too much on me.  I average 6-8 miles per week- pitiful I know.

Hope you guys are better than me or we're in trouble with the run.

Lets go team,

Shelly

Shelly - my bib number is 1814 and hope to see you on Sunday!!

Quick brick today with a 12.5 mile ride and a 2.2 mile run.  My plan for tapering is reduced intensity but not drop number of workouts.  I will take Saturday off.  Looking like it may be wetsuit legal which will make me faster.

Go Teams!!
