Veteran 188 Sun Prairie-ish, WI | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread There are arrows showing all the turns. Some are spray paint and some are tape. The one on County S (from 92/8th St to Witte Rd) might might be gone because the chip sealed it this week. |

Just thought that I would post on this great site that that Racine Half Ironman will be my first on ever and the nerves are starting to kick in. I think that you are all amazing people to challenage yourselves and this is why I am competing on July 15th. If anyone has any tips I am up for all the help I can get. The reason for doing the half ironman is because I will be turing 40 this November. I have 2 boys 8 and 6 and I want to teach them that if you set a goal and put your mind to it you can accomplish anything. This ironman is for me but I also want to teach my boys about hard work and dedication. With this being my first triathlon I am a bit nervous about what to expect. Thanks to all. |

Does anyone know if they are laying pea gravel, repaving? No idea. I thought the construction was just at the intersection of Hwy G and Hwy 92. Isn't that why they changed to course to turn at Messerschmidt? |

Regular 85 Grand Rapids, MI | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Potters25, Feel free to message me if you have any questions. We might even be able to chat sometime on gmail or something. I'm not a hardened Vet. In fact, I'm in a similar position to you. Last year was my first dive into TRI. I did a sprint and then a Half-Iron. I just turned 40 and this year I finished another half and have been training for IM Wisconsin 140.6 in September. Your question is very open ended Either way, this is a great place to learn. There are some very cool and well trained individuals on these forums. You will definitely learn a lot. Good luck and congrats on your new adventure! |

Champion 7163 Verona WI--Ironman Bike Country! | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I just got an email from the WIBA event and it outlines the closure on Hwy 92 and provides a detour map. Not ideal for those who refuel at the BP. The course now cuts across from County G to Hwy 92 along Messerschmidt Rd. *** IMPORTANT: Starting Wednesday, the section along Hwy 92 of the bike course is closed due to bridge reconstruction. (It will be open at the end of August.) The WIBA Google Map (http://goo.gl/maps/dJ61) shows the section that is closed and provides a detour. The detour bypasses Mt. Horeb, where there's a gas station that is commonly used to refuel I just realized the link above doesn't work.....I sent WIBA an email. Edited by SSMinnow 2012-06-19 5:50 AM |

I live in Racine so will be there to cheer you on seeing as I am probably not participating cuz we will be out of town until sat pm so I won't be able to check myself in I still may email the race director and see if someone else could do it for me. I did my first half in oct and am definetly glad I did it in preparation for Madison, Iam not sure by you post if you are also doing Madison? Try to have fun and enjoy the day try not to be so focused on goals or numbers it is amazing that you have trained and are doing this! The swim is nice typically the water is pretty cold but with the heat we have been having hopefully it will warm up a bit, it is out across and in so the view for your family will be nice, the bike is pretty smooth a few rolling hills and some open areas if it's windy it can be a little rough, one thing I learned from oct is be prepared for wind and hills, and the run is good too nice views and lots of people to cheer you on! Hope this helped. |

Master 1967 | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Tangential IM Wisconisn question. Definitely a Wisconsin question though. Milwaukee area people, any open water swim places you can suggest? Last night a buddy and I tried to put in a swim in Lake Michigan and ran in to two problems. Incredible chop and freezing cold temps. I haven't heard of other OWS areas around here so all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Lake Andrea is great water temp usually good and not to much as far as choppiness, it is in Pleasant Prarie, not sure how far you want to drive, I am actually doing an Olympic tri there this weekend and using it as training. |

Champion 7163 Verona WI--Ironman Bike Country! | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread The bridgework has begun on Hwy 92. I decided to try to get through and made it. As of today, they are working on one side. I am guessing this weekend it will be totally passable on the road. If not, the grass will work. That's what I used today. One of the workers told me they were going to be working on a second bridge after this one was completed. |

THis would be a great time for everyone to get off the loop and ride some of the more challenging hills in the area. I have stayed off the loop all but one ride this year, and most of my routes are 2x harder. Can't wait to cruise on the loop at IM. |

Veteran 129 Chicago | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Heading up to Madison Friday night to ride the loop early Saturday morning. This will be my first time riding the course, so I'm looking for some tips: I'm planning to do two loops and would like to stop at my car after the first to refuel - any suggestions on a good place to park/start? Also, how well is the course marked (if at all)? I'm going to study the map this week and bring a copy, but would be nice to know if there are still noticeable arrows on the ground. I understand there has been some construction - any good detours that aren't too far off course? Thanks guys! |

Veteran 188 Sun Prairie-ish, WI | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread The course is marked with the exception of the town hall detour ( at least the detour wasn't marked on Sat.) Once you get to Hwy 92 at the end of Messmerschimdt, take a right and then an immediate right on to Town Hall. Town Hall will take you to County S, take a left and then a right on to Witte and you are back on the course.
FYI,...there is a local Verona tri Sat morning so the section by firemen's park, paoli st, and Valley Rd will be very busy. |

I took the town hall Rd detour to avoid any construction issues, but from looks of the stakes and where they cut in into the road at Messmerschmidt and Town Hall looks like they are going to widen the road. Edited by b.will 2012-06-25 10:33 AM |

Veteran 129 Chicago | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Thanks for the heads up! I had just been told Fireman's Park might be a good place to park, but I guess not lol. Do you know how big the tri is? I don't want to get in the way of a race and will figure out a detour, if necessary, but if it's small and the course is not closed, then perhaps I'll try to get through there quickly (and hope that no racers accidentally follow me off course). I was looking at Google Maps and it looks like Badger Prairie might be a good place to set up base? |

The race is an olympic and a sprint. not sure how many people are signed up...my guess a couple hundred. It is an open coarse. here is a link http://www.racedayeventsllc.com/content/wisconsin-triterium-triathlon. It doesn't start until 7 so depending on when you plan on biking you could be through there before the race starts.
