Subject: RE: 30 runs in 30 days - who's with us?
This has definitely been the longest I've ever gone without posting here, but I just wanted to let you know I'm still at it.

I haven't done too much racing this year. I've actually only done one race. I did a Spartan Ultra-Beast. I ran in the elite field and did ok, but nothing spectacular, finished in the top quarter of the elites, but not near the front of the field as I was hoping. I think it was 26.3 miles, but with a ton of elevation gain and loss, something like 10k feet, plus with obstacles. I ran my first loop fine, in around 3:30, but I had MAJOR cramping issues on the second lap. It was a lack of preparation, both with race strategy and volume. I underestimated this race. If I had a good nutrition/hydration plan, and a bit more preparation I could have done much better I think. I signed up for another one in September, but am really busy this year with other life issues and am having a hard time scheduling races. I may have to pass on that race to get a Hardrock qualifier in this year.
I applied for a ton of "famous" ultras this year, but wasn't selected for any of them....Badwater, Leadville, Western States...Hardrock..off the top of my head. Hardrock is really one of those "bucket list" races I really want to do, so I'll keep applying!! (provided I can keep up on running the qualifiers )
I'm heading out the Hawaii next month. I'll be on the Big Island, and Maui, and plan to get some awesome runs in. I'll be camping on Mauna Loa, and will have the opportunity for some high altitude running, so I'm really looking forward to that.
I also have no plans on stopping!
5 years is around the corner, hope I can make it!! |
