Haven't really "talked" to you for a while. How's it going? You ready for that big ride next month?

Another MTB ride in books.  I'm closing in on my bike goal, just another 100 miles to go!  Swimming seems to be another story this month.  I've been concentrating on the open water, so my totals are lower.  I need to get my butt back in the pool!

Let's go boys!

Did my first tri Sunday.  It was a blast even though the weather didn't cooperate.  You can see some pics here http://blog.ransick.org/ .  Got a 1500 yard swim in yesterday and a 20 mile bike/2.5 mile run brick in today.  I plan to take tomorrow off to start tiling the mantle (plus I'm tired).

Have a good night everyone!

I'm doing the Ride of Silence tonight.  In an effort to raise cycling awareness and honor those that have been injured or killed on the roads, we will ride tonight at 7pm with locations world-wide!  I encourage you to join us!

http://rideofsilence.com/main.php

Very tragic story.  One of m wife's co-worker's husband was killed while training for the Vineman in San Ramon, CA.  She came home from work (swing shift) to find your husband not at home.  She started to investigate and found his bike was not in the garage either.  When she couldn't reach him, she started to call local hospitals and eventually the coroner's office.  He didn't have ID on him and you can figure out the rest of this nightmare.

He had been riding on the shoulder of the road to the right of the white line when he was hit.  The driver was texting on her phone at the time of the collision (accident not used on purpose)!  He was killed on the spot.

Tim, thanks for sharing that story.  It just goes to show you that you can never be too careful on the road.  And, not that it made a difference in the outcome here, you should always have ID on you when riding or running alone.  I, too, am shaking my head.  I'm a nervous rider to start with... and it doesn't seem like an outdoor ride goes by where I don't think to myself, "gee, that car passed by awfully close!"  Just think about the difference a foot or two makes.  And finally, people that text and drive just me off... BIG TIME!  Be safe out there, men!

What an aweful story.  My husband and I both wear our Road ID when we head out.

I wish I had know about the Ride of Silence.  Unfortunately, there is not a ride around here to join.  Bummer.

My condolences. Its sad that people don't pay better attention. What happened to the driver?
We have a local ride here in SLC. I was thinking about taking my bike to work so I can jump in on the ride on my way home but forgot the ride was today. I'll have to see what I can work out.

Thats for the kind words!

If you can't make a ride, maybe a moment of reflection tonight at 7pm would be appropriate.  His name was John F. Greaves and for all the others that were victims of this needless tragedy.

As for the woman, I know she was being charged with felonious gross negligence for not sharing the road.  I believe the incident occurred before texting on phones was illegal in California.  Sorry, but I'm not sure of the present status of the case.

Got in a swim and some strength training last night. It was a tough night for a swim but I made it through.
Bike and run on the schedule for today.
