Running 7 miles on a treadmill must be brutal. I hope Steven went for a run outside

I, of course, went for a run on a treadmlil. But I still consider the temperature outside freezing and not suitable for athletic activities. And it was only a 4.6 miles run. Actually, it was a 45 minute run, which ended up being 4.6 miles. I really should have run extra .4 to make 5 miles. Hmmm.. Next time I guess.

And then I almost drowned in the swimming pool attempting a flip turn. I am completely out of practice.

I actually think I'll sleep in the family room today. Too tired to go upstairs.

Steve, I hear ya man!  We all hit those points when it seems that one more step, or one more interval, or one more lap is just to much!  Just keep in mind how awesome it is going to be breaking the tape in Placid!!!  That is what it is all about!!!  If it was easy they would call the race "PanzyMan" and the tattoo would be of a couch, a chicken wing and a buddha belly.  But I personally think the M dot is a better keep sake!

After this weeks training I think it's time to get a tattoo!

Scary!!! It's Steelman on Aug 7th, but I'll probably also sign up for another Olympic in Philly in July (if I can find one. I swearthere used to be a July race. Where did it go?Smile).

BTW, I finally went for a ride on my Cervelo last Saturday and it was absolutely great! Granted, most of the time I was riding with Emliy on her bike next to me, so I did not go very far or very fast.

I did one loop by myself and went up to 22.7. It was cool!

How are you doing with your tri bike?

Scary, shmary, you'll do great!  Congrads on signing up.  Now crank up the training!

My Tri bike saga is finally over Smile I sold my QRoo on eBay last week and have been shopping ever since.  Just got back from Glenside PA with a shiny new Slice 4 Rival.  My shop still hasn't received their shipment and I just coudn't wait any more lol.  Your friends at Keswick Cycle say hello.  Mike and Tony I think, great guys.   I rode the Cervelo P2, a Specialized and this.  I love the ride and its so incredibly comfortable.  The aerobars are adjustable in a million different ways.

Northern Ivy and I and about 300 others are doing the 76 mile Hell of Hunterdon tomorrow in lovely 41 degree weather.  Will fill you in when we're done.

Have a great weekend everyone.

I haven't dropped off the face of the team- mostly over being sick, and enjoying the Indiana Masters State Swim Meet this weekend!  Been a blast so far, but can't believe how tired I am from so little swimming!  I was VERY surprised how much harder the 200 yard freestyle race was today compared to the two pool Sprints I've done (400 meter and 500 meter).  No clue why though!

Subject: Week Summary Through 3/26

It was a slow training week and a fast easting week for me!  I was back in Utah on business and had a killer breakfast with Rob of oh let's say 4K calories (and that is likely under estimating).  But man was it yummy.

I got back to NJ got into the pool once and then it was off to the Hell of Hunterdon with Steve.  This was a "ride" not a race off 77 miles about 1/3 of the miles on dirt roads; and lots of climbing (5500').  It was wicked cold 28* at the start; which made for a pretty miserable day.  My fueling was all wrong and the last 8-9 miles were miserable; cold, hazy and did I say cold!  In the end it was a fun day and a good way to save some miles for the week!

Great job on the bike ride Northern and Steve! Some of the worst rides are the most memorable so this will be one you will not forget and can always talk about. I did not do too much training this week but did my first tri of the year. It was a mini swim of 300 meters in the pool, 13 mile bike and 5k run. Here are the results:

http://www.milliseconds.com/participants/detail/806237245

My weekly results:

Swim:1050 yds 30 min

Bike: 13 miles 41 min

Run: 3 miles 27 min

Saturday's bike event saved my week and the next two weeks are gonna be tough due to travel but will try and suck it up and get out there.   Running through Paris should be fun, through Cincinnati not so much lol

Last week

Swim  1:24:20  - 4050 yards

Bike 9:22:28 - 138.43 miles  (crazy 77 mile ride on Saturday, ditto - Northern Ivy's description of the event)

Run 1:16:50 = 10 miles

I'll try and get a summary up later from the airport if I have time.

Thank you! I'll be tri-ing then Smile I have even ordered a winter cycling jersey. In my book it's a sign of commitment. I have never owned any long-sleeved athletic garments since I do not train outside when it's below 70 )

Any training is better than no training! You wanna hear embarrassing ? After my 1st flat Saturday I was in such a rush to change the tube that I didn't bother checking the tire for what might have caused the flat. Well tube #2 went flat 10 minutes later. Changed it again without checking. Guess what happened 10 minutes later? I got really lucky that "event patrol" just happened to be passing by. When they put in my 3rd tube of the day they looked for and found and removed the sharp little rock that caused all 3 flats. Now that's embarrassing !! Check your tires before putting in new tubes!!

Hey guys and gals....I'm still here...what a busy last couple of weeks!!!!!  Last week, I was on vacation.  I did most of my workouts and only missed a couple in the last couple of weeks!  I need to do a better job of posting them!

Anyway, I discovered my spreadsheet was calculating the wrong distance on my swimming.   I only enter the laps I did, but it doubled my actual distance.  I figured I was off a lap or two, but double the distance!!!!  Oh well, I still covered the distances in my plan for the weeks, it doubled them!!!!   Talk about a fudge factor!!! Embarassed  Anyway, just letting you know I'm still training and haven't dropped off the face of the earth!!!

Glad you're still with us!   I'm back from my trip as well.  Sorry I didn't get last week's summary out.  We'll start again with this weeks.  I was planning on getting some good runs in on Champs de Elysee but it rained the whole time I was there.  This is going to be a light week for me for sure.  Gonna try and salvage some of it with some swiming this morning and a long computrainer ride tomorrow.

Have a great training weekend everyone!

Greeting All,

I’ve been keeping up with my training, but not with my postings. Sorry about that.  I always learn something new from you all and it’s very much appreciated.

Big Steve, if I get a flat I will be sure to look for the reason why.

Myred86, I hope your cold issues are resolved.  I focus on diet and rest to avoid colds.  I was surprised to read that the longer you wait to eat after exercising the longer it takes your body to recover.  Eat within an hour and you can recover in 10-12 hours; eat after three hours and it could take two days. For me I always rest on the fourth day.  Lastly, I find Zicam taken at the first sign of a cold really works for me.

My first race is coming up April 9th, it’s an indoor sprint, so I don’t have to worry about transition issues or getting kicked in the head during the swim.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how much rest I should get before the race?  I was thinking maybe two days.

Are you following a specif plan?  Most plans have a good taper period.  Here is a good article on it.  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=... have had 2 days rest before all my Tri's in the past and that has worked out great for me.  I've also found it hard to sleep the night before a race due to nerves. Don't let that bother you.  I've read that the sleep you get 2 nights before the race is more important than the actual night before. Having said that I don't take any chances and use sleeping pills to get me through the final night.
