Master 2042 Albany, NY | Subject: RE: January Training and Nutrition Challenge mbasta - 2011-01-10 8:21 AM rnihill - 2011-01-09 9:05 PM So, I think I had my laziest week EVER... For no reason what so ever. Feel free to harrass me, taze me, whatever. But I will get my rear in gear this week! I'm also stressing because I think I need to take my 6 year old back to the doc - again - this week. The poor girl has just been "off" since November. She started with a nasty case of strep, got slowly better, moved to a month of coughing and 3 weeks of hives, and finally an rx for walking pneumonia. Now, a week off that antibiotic and she's coughing again and bruised. Her upper arm is purple and her legs have bruises all over too. She doesn't remember any of them but did say she was fell a bunch of times on the ice at recess earlier in the week. I have no idea what's going on with her now, but I just want the poor girl to feel good! She hasn't been completely well in almost 2 months. She's much perkier than she has been since the strep... but I'm worried about her... And to top it off... there's a nasty stomach bug going around the area and she was sent home with a note that she may have been exposed to ringworm. Can I just keep her at home until the bugs clear out?? Poor thing! My husbands cousin has a boy who just turned two and has been sick for most of his life. It's strange how some people never get sick and others seem to pick up everything. I blame myself, really. I think I jinxed her. Right before this all started in November with the strep, I was commenting to a co-worker how healthy my kids had been. She hadn't been sick in almost a year! Her doc had even been joking (when me and her sister were in there sick) that she must have an immune system of steel. Maybe we both jinxed her! I have an appointment for her this afternoon, so we'll see how it goes. She's acting like she feels ok, which makes me feel a little better! Just not sure when I'm going to get my run in now... Forgot my gym bag. Have to leave an hour early to pick up both kids and get #1 to the doc. Then rush home for dinner and get #1 back to the school for Girl Scouts. It might be one of those 9pm running days... Ugh. |

Elite 3460 Slackerville, USA | Subject: RE: January Training and Nutrition Challenge Emmanem - 2011-01-07 3:22 PM 20 minute run in with my mom today. It was a great run. No shin splints at all which flared up the last two runs so I'm hoping the ice, stretching and foam rolling helped. I'm impressed with my mom. She's been running 3-5 times a week on top of walking the dog 2-4 miles every day. Good job Mom!! Way to go ladies! I wish I were doing that well with my training. Its been busy and I haven't made it out much lately. |

I had 10 days off of the run to let the gastrocs settle (after turning my ankle)....some soft tissue work in PT the other day.....and a fantastic 2 mile walk/ jog today without any pain pain-free is great!! keep it up Pain free would be nice. I've had to back off the push ups again. My elbow is still bugging me a little and I did something to my wrist snowboarding. If it doesn't feel any better in a couple of days I may have to go have it x-rayed. |

Elite 3460 Slackerville, USA | Subject: RE: January Training and Nutrition Challenge crimefighter2 - 2011-01-08 2:50 PM My only run since the start was today. Pretty darn cold - 4 degree windchill. I ended up making a light workout out of it - 1 mile jog and then some speed work. I did not speed at my 5K race pace - but the pace I wish it was! hopefully next week will be better. I'm really liking the cold weather running. I ran on an indoor track the other day, temps in the 60's, and I thought I was going to die. |

Elite 3460 Slackerville, USA | Subject: RE: January Training and Nutrition Challenge johnnyfulltime - 2011-01-08 7:31 PM I'll apologize for being quiet so far this challenge, but I'm not much of a forum troll (no offense to anyone who is fond of trolling). I thought I could at least give a weekly update. First, I wanted to congratulate everyone for their hard work, numerous minutes, copious veggie eating, and great water drinking. Some people have reported some impressive weight loss so far, and congratulations are definitely in order. For me, this challenge has been good, but filled with lots of pain. My knees hurt like hell from all of the running I've been doing (first marathon is in early March). Worse than that though, is the havoc I've brought upon my body from eating so many fruits and vegetables. I don't know if I'm the only one to go from 0-1 servings of fruits and veggies a day to 6-8, but that will cause some serious digestive stress if you make that kind of change. This week has been a bit miserable for me in some respects, but I won't go further into the more dirty details. In the end I did manage to lose 5 pounds of holiday cheer that needed to go. This challenge has been a lot of fun for me so far. Good job to everyone, and I hope you are all able to keep up the good work. Good job on the workouts etc. If your knees are giving you trouble, you might want to cut back on the running. You don't want to cause permanent damage. How many days a week do you run? If you're running 5-6 times a week, you may want to cut it back to 3-4 for a little while. You can cut back on your weekly mileage but keep your long runs on schedule and still be OK. As far as weight loss goes, I would agree that digestive distress is not a good way to lose weight though. Been there done that. |

I spent 1hr 43min putting together the rest of that &%$F#@!!! trainer and trying to get a bike on it ... and did actually wind up riding for 25 minutes, so ... I think you can at least manage to get on your trainer, if not even ride it for a bit. Congrats on finally getting the trainer together! |

Elite 3460 Slackerville, USA | Subject: RE: January Training and Nutrition Challenge cottoneyes - 2011-01-09 6:23 PM Hi all, Checking in after a few days away. 29 points for the week and it has been low even by my standards, each week should get alot better from here in. Am finding the points for the water is given (assuming I did the conversion correctly) as I'm a big water drinker anyway. Saw the doctor on Friday night, all seems good with the achilles and she expects me to be able to recommence running (not walking) gently from the end of this week. Even better news is the tear has repaired quite strong and straight and she gave me much praise for 'doing nothing' for the 3 months, cause most cases like this 'are done on guys that are to exercise focused and can't stay off their leg for that long'. It's been tough mentally these last 3 months, but that one conversation made it all worth it. Did my first swim in 3 months this week as well, still managed to do 2kms straight with the PB so hopefully that is a sign I didn't lose too much fitness. Way to go Joe! Congrats on a good recovery. |

OK... it was awful from a nutritional standpoint. Lots of junk food (football food - chicken wings, chili, beer, snacks, etc.). But I did get a trainer ride in yesterday. But no workout today... I will update the spreadsheet tonight, although I'm almost afraid to. Is it possible to actually LOSE points? |
