The community of Verona is getting upset about all of the bikers parking at Fireman's park.  Go to the Rocket Bike Sports shop and park there.  They hosted the WIBA ride this past weekend and were fantastic.  They are opening at 6am on Saturdays (I believe) for any mechanical assistance and they have a great location just on the loop.  Maybe stop in and buy something for parking there.  Anyway, I'm not associated with them but they told us this past weekend that the community is getting upset about Fireman's park.  RBS has plenty of parking in their lot and on the street, so park there, you won't be disappointed.

You can also park in the gravel lot at the BP on Whalen. They are open late in case you need something later in the day.

GOOD NEWS!!!!! Not sure if this has been posted yet or not, but I just talked to the RD and HWY 92 is in fact getting repaved! This will pave about 4 miles (8 miles total) of some of the worst road conditions on course, add to that Whalen is all done and the bike course should be much more enjoyable this year.

New pavement -- yum!

Thanks to all you locals for the course updates.  I hope to get a chance to ride the loop in late July.  Can't wait!

I would not park here the day of the race.  Transition opens at 5:45am and many of SBRs athletes will be parking in that lot.

Thanks for the heads up! I had just been told Fireman's Park might be a good place to park, but I guess not lol.

Do you know how big the tri is? I don't want to get in the way of a race and will figure out a detour, if necessary, but if it's small and the course is not closed, then perhaps I'll try to get through there quickly (and hope that no racers accidentally follow me off course).

I was looking at Google Maps and it looks like Badger Prairie might be a good place to set up base?

A few friends are coming up from Chicago this weekend to ride Sat. AM. We are leaving from Cross Plains doing part of the stick and then bypassing most of Verona.  This is the route:

Rode the course for the first time this weekend. Thanks for those that gave the heads up on the local tri in fireman's park, I was able to get out there for my first loop just before the race started, and by the time I came around at 9 for my second loop, it looked like most people were headed out on the run with just a few people coming back on the bike in the opposite direction (got a few confused looks from those people).

All in all I really enjoyed the course, challenging, but not brutal. The long slow climb on old sulk sucked a bit, but after two times through, I think I have a pretty good idea of how I will handle it during the race. Anyway, it's nice to finally understand all of the street references that I've been hearing for ages - people weren't kidding about stagecoach, that road sucks! And the long sweeping descent on Garfoot is gnarly.

Speaking of which, I thought I had gone off course when I first got to the bottom of Garfoot and hit that fine gravel. Is that what everyone has been referring to when they say "chip seal?" I was super cautious going through the first time, but felt a little more confident on it the second time through and maintained a decent speed. Is there a ton of carnage on that part of the course during the race? or do they put down carpet runners or something? Or is it really not as unstable as it seems?

This Friday will be my first trip up to ride the course, so I don't know what Garfoot looks like right now.  But a chip and seal is where they put down a layer or tar and cover it with a loose rock.  They'll let traffic drive on it for a week or two to let the rock get embedded in the tar, then sweep away whatever loose rock is left.  So if they did chip and seal, the good news is that the loose gravel should soon be gone.  Unfortunately, it's still not going to be a good road to ride on, very rough and bumpy.

how did everyone's june go?  My training is starting to come along.  I am feeling good about my run and okay on my bike and run.  Hit most of my workouts this month with the exception of when my husband was away from home and I was pulling double duty at home.  Knock on wood, I managed to stay healthy all month.

Half Ironman is coming up next weekend then the big build starts.

June totals

Bike:25h 31m 45s  - 677.75 KM
Run:15h 58m 31s  - 153.72 KM
Swim:6h 50m 51s  - 16350 M

Was hoping to get out to Madison this weekend and ride a couple loops.  I like the suggestion of Rocket Bike Sports and I will probably park there.  My question to fellow IMWI-training-peeps, is whether there is anywhere (other than Lake Monona/Mendota) to grab a quick post-ride shower or at least a good rinse.  Something about making the two hour commute back home in damp cycling shorts that doesn't quite appeal to me!

Injuries and a fall off the bike made my numbers a little messed up.

It is hard to run or swim with broken ribs.

Bike:56h 48m 35s  - 982.5 Mi
Run:4h 27m 57s  - 32.5 Mi

My totals are:

Bike: 451mi outside plus a few spin sessions inside which I didn't log distance.

Run: Somewhere around 70 miles. Did several treadmill runs due to a bum hip and Garmin puked out on one of my long runs.

Swim: Probably around 22,000m. I keep forgetting to log them but have been following my plan.

All in all, I feel like I am making good progress. Did the WIBA weekend. Great to see the bike course first hand. Helped me refocus some weekly training sessions to doing hill intervals for both the bike and run.
