lastcall2003 - 2007-10-11 7:22 PM And, I will be honest with you all. I am proud of myself and what I have accomplished. I feel strong and beautiful!

My goal is to have younger women say - damn! I hope I look that good when I'm her age -

Amen! This is exactly how I feel these days. My goal is to have other women (and certain men) tell me they can't believe I'm a triathlete

Terri, you are well on the way. So many people very much wish that they could do what you already do, but as you know, wishing makes no difference. YOU are actually DOING it--rock on!!!

Its too cold and rainy this weekend.  Make sure y'all stay out of that weather and logging miles.  And treadmills?  Blech!  Take it nice and easy.  You deserve it.  No, really, you do.

Love,

A concerned BTer not in the challenge on a team that might be competing against you.

We're supposed to have gorgeous weather this weekend, where I am - so I will be racking up the miles

Clearly dear Donkey Man missed our significant Southern California contingent (and Bahrain, where the weather is maybe too nice ... ) and I'm glad it's nice on the mideast coast, too!

Yup, it finally cooled off here (went from 90 to about 65 in one day). Nice breezy afternoon right now, mid-60's and sunny, gonna be like that all weekend. I am very psyched for my rides and runs this weekend

this one is my favorite running picture - shows the pain. it was taken in my first tri year ago. that time, i didn't love running. i love running. i love running.

OF COURSE YOU LOVE RUNNING! I LOVE RUNNING, TOO!

Didn't catch the pic, antti, but I followed the link to your website. What wonderful pics--and it's so neat that you have the pages in Finnish AND English! It was great to see the pics of you and your family and travels. I was especially impressed by the shot of you with the Burj al'Arab in the background.

Really glad you're going to get to fit the rides and (of course, especially) runs in. I know you've had a few blank days but the rest will probably do you some good--and really let you focus on this weekend.

Excellent positive thinking!  And pretty soon, your goal will be to have other women (and certain men) tell you that they CAN believe you're a triathlete ... because you are strong, you are fit, you are determined, you stand proud, etc. ...

Hehe, I'm also slacking off a little this week because as of Monday, I'm going into full-on training mode - well, prep and base building, sort of based on the Triathlete's Training Bible plan(which I know some people said was crap, but others have not). So I can kick some a$$ next spring

for ANTTI re. OBESITY

antti asu - 2007-10-12 2:44 AM

a bit back to obesity issue. what do you guys think, what is the main reason for the whole phenomena? seems to be that usa and uk are the worst - rest of europe isn't nearly that bad. and rest of the world of course...

I pretty much agree with what the rest of the team members have said. Here's a couple of other perspectives:

In the U.S., a much higher percentage of poor or impoverished people are overweight (seems counterintuitive, but true). While of course there are a lot of complex reasons, here's a simple one: it's not just that fast/processed foods are more available, often they are the only ones genuinely available and affordable. You don't find grocery stores--especially not ones with lots of whole foods and fresh produce--in poor areas. But you will find lots of fast food places where food is very cheap.

In Europe, and in Asia, the opposite is true. What's cheap is whole, fresh foods. It's expensive to eat processed foods.

Finally--it seems in Europe and Asia culturally, food preparation and consumption is treated a whole different way. Meals are an event; in the U.S., they are secondary (you eat at work, or grab lunch on-the-go, or hurry through dinner to get to your evening plans). Europe and Asia, food prep is done with deliberation; there's a lot of attention paid to what goes into the food, how it's cooked, how it looks and is presented. Definitely true in Asia (check out the attached pic of "fast food" in Indonesia. Coincidentally, there is also a flyer for the Hash House Harriers under the plate). I think the result is that the "good stuff" veggies etc. is more likely to be included, more appealing, more tasty, and you actually wind up eating them.

We pay no attention to braying or howling ... in fact, we have a moratorium on it for our own team members.

No manners, sir!

I agree with you.  We (US) on a whole are lazy and want everything bigger! Just hope that my girls are getting the clue that you have to work on your eating habits and be active. Thank god I have decent genes and don't really struggle with weight because my diet sucks!!! I really should be better at picking the right foods.

Both my girls are excited that our tri club will be starting a kids team next year.  They both want to start doing tris. They are going with me tomorrow for a 1 mile fun run while I do the 5K. They both did a 5K in the spring.  They are 15 and 11. I'm so very proud as you can read!!

Hope everyone does well with the running this weekend!!

Oooh, that is very exciting indeed! Congrats! Of course you have amazing daughters ... you're an amazing lady yourself.

Gail and I volunteered at a kids tri 4th of July weekend, and it was my all-time favorite race volunteering experience. I don't know what it was, but watching those kids go for it ... some really tiny ones, too ... made me prouder to be a triathlete than ever.

Gail, where are the ones of you? I was trawling Monica's photos, but she only has ones of the guy bodymarker. So post! (Of you, not the guy. Enough of those here!)

A super yummy guy hopped in the pool to help the last finisher get through her swim. Of course no pics of his face, but, I am sure you will make do.

Other pics are of me and DoloresM2 (she's a Vampire, but I love her anyway) and her daughter Camille, who was so inspired she wants to do it next year. That's the great thing about getting jockstrappers ... er, converts.

We just don't know how inspiring we are. It is truly an amazing thing we do, to tri, and to train and try to tri.

Okay, "super-yummy guy" is MY COACH!  You can see another pic of him in that set leading out the bikers (he's in orange/blue in front of the pack), or try this one:

http://flickr.com/photos/98443766@N00/1246228692/in/set-72157601684110986/

Imagine how hard you'd train if you knew he were waiting for you out on the course, or to give you a huge bear hug at the finish line...

Blue-helmet kid is actually a boy.  I'm not in any of the pix (Monica regularly misses me entirely).

I'll leave sexy or not to you ladies, but I will relate this story from my first tri. I have a good friend who came out to cheer me on during my first tri last month. She is normally a chatterbox, but to hear my wife tell the story, she was standing near the finish line LOOONG before I came in with her mouth hanging open and a stunned speachless look on her face. Apparently the spectacle of the several hundred more or less (usually more) fit guys in various layers of skin tight clothing was enough to keep her quiet for the first time in recent memory.

Her whole family was there that day, right? They were soooo nice ... we were all walking back to our cars at the same time and they were parked next to us, and Dolores and I were drooling over Emily's bike (not a guy for once).
