Was just checking out the web site of new aquatic center that is opening just down the road from me this week.....I am so glad that the city is putting in a new pool in place.

Now I need to decide whether to give up on the monthly gym membership which I have been using mostly because it is the closest pool to my house and it opens at 4:30am.......

.....unfortunately the new pool does not open till 6am which is too late for my morning swims before work....so would need to go at lunchtime or in the evenings. But it does work out cheaper....but no childcare......but a much better pool........and family membership for the price of individual at the gym........etc......etc.....

.......decisions, decisions!

Ahhh....I can breathe again today...well, at least out of one nostril!

I haven't been to the pool in over a week thanks to both the flu and a visit from my "Aunt Flo!" I think the chlorine helped clear me up, though. Ahhh...fresh air!

Okay, I have a confession to make...

My first sport is running. I have been running since 2002 and have run three marathons. Distance running has been a real passion of mine since about 2004. I have even contemplated a 50 Miler for 2009.

In January I decided that a more logical step in my training might be to dip into this world of triathlons. So, I bought a new bike, pulled out my swim gear and began training. I have been a swimmer most my life but never swam competitively - only for fun - and although I had a hybrid bike sitting in my basement I found it difficult to get out to ride it with two kids in tow. Besides, my morning workouts were all about running.

In March I raced my first triathlon. It was a mini, mini, mini tri (250 yd, 4 mi, 1.4 mi) but I totally enjoyed it. Since March I have found myself really excited about my cycling workouts. I LOVE the bike. My swim workouts have been equally exciting because I'm able to see those wonderful improvements on my distance with each workout. The first time I was able to say "I swam a mile" was so exciting!

So, what is my confession? Well, I'm not as huge a fan of running as I used to be. Quite honestly, I almost dred getting out to run. I only do it because I know I have to! I ran 4.5 miles this morning and felt I was struggling most of the run. I even ran a new route to try to get a change of scenery and that didn't help. I guess I could say some of it is because my body is in recovery mode but I'm not sure that's totally it. I struggled most of last month with my runs, too. I would have 5 miles on my schedule and only complete 3 or 4. I do enjoy reaching goals with each sport. As I mentioned above, I like saying "I swam a mile" or "I rode X miles," etc. I don't really have a distance goal for running right now but I do have some speed goals that I have been meeting thanks to a recent drop in weight.

I guess I'm in some kind of "funk!" Have any of you had this problem? If so, how did you get passed it? I know this June challenge is going to be very helpful to me because I know you guys are here to support me through this. I have a 65-mile goal for running this month so I'm going to need some inspiration!

Thanks for reading my novella...

Hi Tracy....I am in that funk right now! Somehow, I always get my workout in...but as I am getting dressed to do it...the excitement is not there, like it was when I began! but I have had a lot of personal things going on. Trying to not let them get in the way...I do have to say that when I do finally get out there...I am soooooooo glad that I did. Hope if you find the reason...PASS IT ON! I have added a can of MOJO...just in case you need it!

drink up!!! and if that did not work...here is my super sized energy bar...for you:

Have a good day!

Hi guys....

My name is Julie. I just hit the big "50" this year and after a terrible tragedy in our family last November while I was at the funeral...I vowed to do triathlons in her honor! I quit smoking and I have lost over 45 lbs and have presently done two triathlons - both in Dorothys honor. The first one was a sprint in Moraga....I got a third place; the second one I drove down to San Diego and raced with my dd....I got second in that one! was shocked! in a good way, of course. I have competed in probably 5 of these monthly challenges. Seems to help me stay motivated and on track! I used to race mtn bikes for about five years straight (almost every weekend) and also played ultimate frisbee - both of which I had retired back in the mid 90's. MY WEAKEST LINK is SWIMMING for me! I STRUGGLE big time with my swim...even though I have improved my endurance...I think my technique SWILLS. I can easily swim 2000 meters in one swim...but not in any record time and style is well...NOT GOOD! SUX!  I am wanting to do an HIM by the end of the summer or the first of next year. I love inspires and appreciate any you can send my way! I have a dd that just joined BT...hoping you will stop by the introduce myself thread...and say hi to "rowertrying2tri". Ok...have a great day on BT campus! GO TNT!!!! Time to get explosive!!! BIKE, RUN and SWIM! and make sure that if you are going to add goals...make them realisitic and reachable....GO GOO GOOOOOOO!

Hi Team!

I will be starting my June goals soon- I had a 1/2 marathon on Saturday and am still in "recover the IT bands" mode right now. If you want to read my race report check it out here:

http://swimbikerunnap.blogspot.com/

I too am first and foremost a runner- and also sometimes struggle with running motivation when biking is such a fun fast activity. And swimming, well I try to not think about swimming when I'm not doing it, that's how much I enjoy swimming. . . I think for me I have to have a race coming up to motivate me to run seriously.

Hope everyone's off to a good start, since we're the winning team! :-

morning exploding nuts!! oh wait! that didn't come out right!

sorry to be such the sadist this morning, but i have to say i'm really glad to read that some of you guys struggle too. sometimes i feel like all you hear about on this site are the victories, and the love of it (which is so great, i'm so not complaining!!) but i sometimes feel like if i'm struggling, i'm struggling alone. i'm not trying to say that i'm GLAD you guys struggle too, but well, i am.

today is my "running anniversary" i'd almost forgotten. one year ago today, i got up in the morning, and decided to run a mile on the treadmill-so disasterous, but it SO got things started for me. i ran that first mile as FAST as i possibly could, and it took me about 18 minutes!! LOL and i felt like a million bucks ALL DAY. so i got up again next morning and did it again. and sometime about 3 months later, i discovered that i can be a "runner" and i did my first tri.
i feel like i should be running today, to celebrate. but dh left early this morning, and i'm here with the kids, so that's out.

anyway, more pics everyone. (especially bald ones!! LOL)
i'll see if i can find a pic of dh. (he's so hot!! and BALD!!)

Nice job on the race Kerry....I live in the bay area and you are right: VERY CHILLY.

I wanted to do that race, but happened to be working a Pet Parade that day ;( ....check out the pictures of all the various dogs/cats/snakes/rats that were at the parade on my BT log....there are some pretty funny pics! some really creative outfits!

dcrunningdiva - 2008-06-03 7:55 AM I guess I'm in some kind of "funk!" Have any of you had this problem? If so, how did you get passed it? Hey Tracy.....we all get those "funk" things from time to time.......one of mine lasted about 5 years....but that was until some friends kicked my butt out of it!

TNT'ers will be here for ya.

As for what works for me....I need some fun now and again in my workouts if I get in to the monotony of doing the same ol'same each day.

One thing that helps meis that at work we have a group of folks who all run......everything from the fast guys who regularly do marathons down to the group known as "The Fatboys" (which I am a proud member of). We ask each other about our training and try to motivate each other and I can always be assured of somebody to run with at lunchtime if I just need somebody to drag me out there.

Also....every year we do our annual "Toga Run" where we all dress up in togas at lunchtime and run a couple of miles to a local restaurant in full toga outfits and then eat Ceaser salads (of course) and then run back......I always look forward to these and it is a good motivator to get out and run and prepare for it.

Anyway.....I am sure you will find your way out of the funk before long.....and will all be keeping a look out on your logs to keep you on track......with plenty of inspires .......and butt kickins (if necessary)....LOL
