I looked up the guy who did this race last year in an old bike, a long beard, and jean cutoff shorts.

(for reference)

In any case, he was there this year, I saw him during the swim. He was #1616. In any case, he DNFed, dropping out some time between the 2nd and 3rd bike legs. Wonder what happened. He could've hit the dreaded "you mean I have to do this loop AGAIN?!"

Just thought that was interesting.

I saw him walking around near transition, still in his cutoffs, around 5:30pm.  He seemed to be moving fine and was smiling so I'm not sure what happened to him.

I passed him about 1/2 way thru the second loop.  We was walking his bike....very slowly.

Thanks to everybody watching and volunteering.  The support from the crowd and the generous assistance from the volunteers was/is beyond words.  Meeting the BT group and seeing familiar faces during the race was a huge benefit as well.

Kenny, my heart goes out to you.  Everytime I saw you out on the run course, I was truly trying to send you whatever mojo I had left to spare.

Wow he has a lot of guts. That's good that he's smart enough to stop when it gets too dangerous though. I could not imagine trying to do that race like he does.

Does anyone know any stats of DNFs? I know there were a lot out there but I am having a hard time getting them from the results.

This race seems a lot less organized than the NASports ones. I am only comparing this one though.

at lunch they said that nearly 1700 finished and over 2100 started.  Not sure how much those numbers are rounded up or down but that's around 20%

Athlete Tracker says:
1793 finishers out of 1975 starters = 9.2% DNF

In my AG (M40-44), there were reported 320 racers and 282 reported finishing times.  That's 11.9% DNF.

When I was out on the bike, finishing my second loop and coming back in, I saw that guy sitting under a tree in the shade, resting. I pointed at him and yelled, "I remember you from last year!"

Yes.. I will be having a talk with my local bike shop and then with PD if need be. I haven't had them for long... so either these things are jacked or I need to talk to someone on my fit (it doesn't bother me). Either way.. both concern the same shop. I know I am not a small guy.. but I should not be breaking metal. It is not like I am X-Games style tricks on my aero bars while out riding. But.. it is what it is... I will get this fixed, even if I have to change out the entire front end of my bike before my next event.

Kenny
