Ghoulies, hope everyone had a nice weekend.  I got 6 miles in yesterday.  It was 21* but no wind, so actually quite nice.  Today's masters swim was an adventure.  Somehow I missed that it was a 90 minute session.  Clue #1 that I was in trouble.  After introducing myself to the coach and getting into the *slow* lane, he started the workout with a 3x300 warm-up.  WTF??????  I now realize I'm in trouble.  Well, it was a loooong hour and a half.  I struggled but I stayed in the water the entire time and didn't puke, although it was iffy now and again.  The other swimmers were gracious and encouraging (sure, yep, really, I'm certain they want me back.)  The coach was terrific.  He really helped with some body position feedback that made an immediate difference.  Anyhow, I'm hoping to be a regular with this group on Sundays.

Wow, Kim!  Way to hang in there and finish the workout.  Sounds like a helpful, encouraging group.  Hope the swims continue to get better from here on out!

deehtz - 2010-01-10 6:14 PM I just had a great run following a pretty mediocre bike ride.  My first time to maintain a pace under 12 min. for the whole 3 miles!!  Pretty stoked!!

Congrats on the milestone!

ironannekidd - 2010-01-11 4:38 AM Good morning everyone!

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend.

I only have time to stop by for a minute, I actually have some work to do this morning. I'll go through all the posts a little later this morning when I'm done.

I got 5 miles in on Friday. I got a 10 mile run in yesterday, you can read about it in my log.

Saturday I finally got to go see my new baby niece. She is BEAUTIFUL!!! My kids and I spent most of the day either driving or at my sisters. Yesterday was dedicated to my run, then a lot of napping afterward.

Be back in a bit!

Nice job on the run!  Should be a piece of cake this weekend, right?

wgraves7582 - 2010-01-10 4:12 PM So I have a follow up Doctor Appointment with a church Doctor that I know.  A little background:

I got a letter from the sports dr that said Dear Bill, The xray is fine.  So in my mind I want to know it is fine I don't have arthritis and then you said you would want to do an MRI to follow up to see what is going on to cause the pain.  Or is it fine that yes I do have arthritis - and to me that is not a fine xray!

I was a little pizzed to be honest with you!

So I called this guy up after he called about my mom and I asked him some questions about me.  So he is doing a house visit tomorrow night to verify but he is thinking that it is a nerve inflamation and we need to find out what is causing it!

I like that diagnosis a lot better than the other one!

No offense to our resident doctors, but...

Q: What do you call the person who graduates last in his class at med school?

Sounds like everyone had a great weekend!  I did not get much training in...although I am not really training for anything right now so its not a huge deal...I do have a 5K in 2 weeks but I am doing it more as a fun thing...I really need to get back to running, but there is so much snow and as I live in the ghetto no one shovels their walks making running a bit tricky.

I just need to get better at packing my stuff and bringing it to work and going to the gym before or after work to get on the treadmill!

Or I need to buy a treadmill for home (I think I may ask for one for my birthday)

wgraves7582 - 2010-01-11 7:55 AM So Doctors what can cause a nerve to inflame after about 20-30 minutes of running type exercises?

I think it was the femural nerve?? Does that sound right or am I getting it confused with the femur bone?

Well there is a femur bone and there is a femoral nerve...chances are it is continuously inflammed but it just gets really aggravated after you are using for awhile.  You have had xrays right?  because the only think I can think of off the top of my head is a bone spur that is rubbing against the nerve.  (Note orthopedics and sports medicine are not my area of expertise...if you need your appendix out I am your girls)

wgraves7582 - 2010-01-11 5:36 AM Thanks for the encouragement about the letter.  I thought I was losing it because of it but now realize this guy was a doofball!

So I went back to the Bootcamp class this morning and I don't know why - my legs are dead.  Nice combination of cross country skiing all weekend and then a nice bike ride last night resulting in a 1 hour walk back home because I flatted and did not have any tools (or my cell phone) with me to repair it.  The leg did not appreciate that at all!

You guys have a great day - I am going to recover all day long - my body aches!

Ouch! That sounds like a totally suckish walk Bill. You need to make it a point to ham it up at work today. Leg elevated on your desk is a good place to start...

I'm here for a few minutes.

I got the work done this morning that I needed to do.

Then at 9:05 I was told to go up to a different building and added a training class that started at 9:00. GREAT!

I sat there for 3 hours and so far I could have taught the class.

I have to be back by 1:00. The class goes to 4:30, but I'm leaving at 3:00. My daughter has cheerleading at the Y tonight and I'm hoping to swim some laps.

I'll try to pop in this evening and see what I missed today.

GO GHOULIES!!!

wgraves7582 - 2010-01-11 5:42 AM You guys had some awesome training this weekend - great job everyone!

Tom - get some pictures of the bike for us to drool over

Speaking of which here is photo of my ski trip and the sled hill at our local park (we tobaggoned there on Saturday - what a blast!)

Here's a stock pic from the Specialized website. I don't think I've stopped drooling since Saturday...

Tom - I know - there is a certain part of my body that is killing me after the walk and bootcamp class this morning.  Walking is always an adventure - I did more walking lunges in 30 minutes than I have done in my whole life today!

Walking lunges can go to hell. My glutes are sore just thinking about 30 minutes of them...

LOL - I am going to tell my instructor that the next time she has us do them and walk out.  That should be good for a laugh right?

That would be great. Just be careful not to pi$$ her off, or she'll just hurt you more.

wgraves7582 - 2010-01-11 3:35 PM Alright Ghoulies - I will chat with you tomorrow.  Heading out shortly to get my second opinion.

I called my note doctor to inquire as to what was fine about the x-ray and he said that it does not show advanced arthritis and that an MRI would be next.  I think I will stick with the guy tonight and take that path since Doctor #1 is a pin head!

Have a great evening!

Hope you hear some good news!
