Tim/Jay

Sorry guys, but I'm out for pumpkinman. My wife couldn't get the time off and I couldn't fit it into my budget for a trip on my own. I'm going to let you know when I go out there next anyway. I'd love to meet up with you guys sometime, even if it's not a race

I'm probably out too.  Work looks pretty full all the way up until deployment next year.  Honestly training time is going to take a back seat to time w/ my family since I won't see them for 1/2 the year.

Jay lives? I just got back from 4 days in the desert at Joshua Tree with my oldest son.Man, I don't know what I'm going to do for next weekend. I'm suppose to race an XTERRA, bit it looks like rain all week. Not sure if I want to risk injury this early in the season. But, if I miss, it screws up my schedule.I'm tired of the rain!

I do!  Cool, good weather for camping up that way I bet.  I just did my first road bike race this morning.  24/44 AG  It was rainy and chilly and it was evident I hadn't been on the bike in almost a month about 1/2 way into it.  Not a horrible finish though.

Welcome back Jay.  I've been neglecting the forum lately but still getting in my workouts.   Cycling heavy last week and next for a rally next weekend.  I should be able to swim pretty soon on a regular basis, can't wait.

I was 6' 195 pounds when I started cycling seriously, 4-6 times a week.  I couldn't seem to get down to where I wanted to be, around 185.  When I added running to my cycling I noticed I felt better overall and was losing weight.  I've since added core workouts and weights and continue to feel stronger both on and off the bike.  I'm down to 183 pounds and don't miss it.

Sorry guys, I'm still alive!  Been a crazy week at work for me, haven't had much time to post.  I've managed to get 3 runs and a day of bike commuting in this week  though despite the frantic schedule and less than optimal weather here.   What's on tap for whoever's left around here in the coming weeks?  I'm volunteering at the Oceanside 70.3 next weekend in some sort of bike handler capacity and am racing my first du on the 16th.

Sounds good.  Are you getting any credit for volunteering?

Plans for the week?  Hmmm... weather is just not cooperating.  Looks like I'll be pulling out the trainer again and hitting the pool.  I'm going to make the race on Sunday a last-minute decision.

Honestly I have no idea.  I have heard of getting free entry for the following year when volunteering at some events, but I wont even be here this time next year so unless they could do it for 2013, it doesn't even matter.  I've only received one email so far and that was for my t-shirt size.  If I don't get some details soon I'm not even going.

Glad to hear everything went well.  The group has pretty much fallen off and the summer mentor groups will be starting up next month sometime it looks like.  Sounds like the running is going good!

Hey! I'm glad to hear you're doing ok!! I've been catching up on posts too! I can't wait to hear how you do! I hope you are able to get back on track ok-you seem like a go getter! I'm sure you'll be great! Please keep us posted))))

I'm excited for the warmer weather. I'm out in more now and feels really good-I'm steady at about 8 miles between walkjoggin and 8 miles riding. Losing some weight too-slowly but steady. Swimming is still shaky-but I'm working on it. Hope to be at 12 miles bike/jogg by the end of the May. I really feel like baby steps next to you guys!!

Baby steps are sometimes what it takes to get the ball rolling.  Keep it up, you'll be doing epic training sessions before you know it.

I have never felt water this cold.  I did my pre-race routine: walked into the water about 5 minutes prior to start, sat down, got my face in the water, then flushed the suit before they called us to the start.  And still, I was hurting at the start!  I was able to breath okay; it just hurt your face.  I had to start the swim with a few strokes in normal form, take a few strokes head up, then back to normal form.  After a couple minutes, my face was numb and I was able to get into form.

The guy that deserves the props is David (norcal SAHD)!  Not only was this his first long course XTERRA, but he still competed after having two root canals the week leading up to the race.  Honestly, I was ready to pack my bags and head home until he told me he was racing the long course.  He had a good swim and a very respectable finishing time!  It must of been all of that good mentoring he received Sealed.

Nice!!! I forgot he was doing that! I'll be sure to hit him with in inspire for that. It amazes me the accountability you feel when you race with people you know. I've had a time or two myself I've driven all the way to a race and almost went home if it weren't for a friend

You mentors don't get enough credit IMO!!

Hi Kathy!  Jay is the man around here, but he has been busy with work.  I don't think he would mind taking another into the fold.  If you would like to join, just post a little bio, experience, and what races you are looking to do.

Hey gang.  I'm taking a 3-day weekend an a fe days off work next week so I'll be around a little more.  How's everyone looking regarding your next race?  Anybody getting close to go time?  I got an email today w/ the details for the Oside 70.3 race, looks like I'll be working the transition area 4-10AM which should be awesome.  I'm stoked.  Anybody having any issues/problems lately that you need some help with?
