Trying to rehydrate after a day of puking yesterday.
Will try to get in a treadmill run tonight. I am guessing it will not be a very strong run Tongue out

Take it easy. Don't just take in water, use a sports drink or something to get electrylytes, too.

Yeah, we had some pedialyte popsicles that helped. I feel pretty much over it now. Lifted weights, ran, and swam today - no problems.

Tomorrow am (oops, later this am) is my favorite spin class. Great teacher (tri guy). May get a bit of a swim in too.

I enjoyed that article on "building a strong base." Worth a look.  http://beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=2165
The tri coach at my Y really emphasizes that idea - says you should spend about 80% of your training time "lolly-gagging." I am somewhat short of that mark - I always feel like I am short of time and need to make the most of the time I have. I do really enjoy a long swim or long run at a low intensity pace tho.

I immediately thought of this scene from Bull Durham when I saw the word lolly-gagging.

Skip: You guys…you lollygag the ball around the infield. You lollygag your way down to first. You lollygag in and out of the dugout. You know what that makes you? Larry!

Larry: Lollygaggers!

Skip: Lollygaggers

TriathlonMum - 2011-02-10 11:36 PM Thanks Anne I used to do a lot of fun stuff with the kids' cake as well as molded ahortbreads and cookies. I stopped when I was a single mom for so many years then in 2008 I lost everything in a house fire. I still miss my shortbread pans and cookie molds

I am still single but with DD helping me so much I am able to do more and we got me the decorating equipment for the holidays! I have done two major projects since DSs birthday cake and DDs 18th birthday cake.

Sorry to hear about the fire, Cheryl. I know my kids love to bake. I'm not very good at it, but we have fun together. A few years ago my daughte wanted a layer cake for her birthday, I didn't think it looked very good, but she was only 4 or 5, so she didn't care.
She had a white cake with blue icing, don't ask why blue, but that's what I made her. That's about the fanciest thing I've done.

Yes. Actually 2:45 would be fine, gives me a few minutes to wake up and pack up my things.

Morning everyone! I think I am finally on the other side of this bronchitis mess I did an awesome swim at 5:45 this morning...i will not be making that a regular habit because i am not a morning person but nonetheless i swam 2000 yds!

Reading the conversation you guys had about cake really makes me want some...but not motivated enough to make one or buy one so unless someone wants to make a cake for me I will go without.

I think i'm going to do a spin class next week and perhaps a zumba class since my friend keeps begging me to go. And I am so happy its FRIDAY!!

Good morning everyone!

I got some yoga in this morning, and I played some balance games on the Wii. I'm getting ready now to go to my daughter's big basketball game.

I hope everyone has a fantastic Saturday!

Good morning all. Hope everyone is having a good and productive Saturday. The sun is shining in NW Indiana, so spirits are high. As I stated in my introduction, endurance sports are new to me. I have been cycling about a year, and just started running and swimming in November. When I started running I set a goal to do a 5k that is held near here  in 3 months from then. Well, that race is tomorrow. When I injured my knee in December (overuse) I pretty much gave up on that goal. I am, however, rethinking that decision. I have been extremely careful to stick to my training plan and not overtrain, even though I feel like I can do more. The long runs in this portion of my training program are at 24 minutes, so I'm not going that far over what I'm running in the plan. I know I can finish the 5k. But can I without injury? I realize 5k is small potatos to some of you more experienced runners, but this would be my first organized race and would be a big mental boost to be able to attain the goal I thought was lost. Anyway, I'm about 90% sure I'm going to run it. If I feel like i'm overdoing, I can always walk.

Run YOUR race. You never know how far you can go until you try.

Don't try to keep up with anyone. Don't go out too fast. Run if you can, walk if you must. But run YOUR race.

Evening all!  Been a hectic day here.  Weather is beautiful but I'm single dad for 2 weeks as the wife went to Sweden for work.  Not much in the way of training today as I spent the morning getting the wife to the airport, then at a basketball tournament for my 11 y.o.  Going to try and swim tomorrow, if I can work it in.

SFD, run your race, as Anne said.  Might I suggest a run/walk approach.  You might try and run 4 minutes, walk 1 minute.  That will keep you fresh and leave something in the tank for the upcoming week's workouts.

Good luck!

Hi everyone.  Sorry I've been MIA for the past few days.  Sinus infection got me.  A couple more days of antibiotics and I'll be good to go.  Doc says I should be ready to start working out again on Wed or Thurs this week.  Hope everyone is doing well.

Awesome swim lesson today.
Teacher said "I can't see your head except for when you breathe. Get your head up."
