I was actually looking for a fal 5K to run with my friend who has never done one. That might work out. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good morning peeps ... Just in from a 5 mile test drive of the ankle. I'm cautiously optimistic, but heavy on the caution. It remains stiff and a little sore, but nothing to impact my gait. I'll take it out for 12 easy on Sunday and then one or two more prior to the marathon. I just have to keep from twisting it again between now and the race ... and I'm a bit of a clutz. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm encouraged by everyone's accomplishments. The last 18 hours has been rough. My wife and I got hit with some GI bug. We were at the ER from around 2-4 am so the wife could get an IV for for fluids. She had it much worse than me. My legs are so sore from my run Wednesday. I can't believe it. I was off for 2 weeks but I figured I could come back and run at a slow pace. The GI bug hit me at the pool yesterday and I had to exit the water. Now this morning and I am drained. I am having a hard time getting back in my routine. Hope everyone has a good weekend of training and/or races. Scott, I look forward to hearing how many dreams you crushed.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey guys, Sorry had a few gremlins there!!! Sounds like everybody has been hard at it, and for those carrying injuries or sickness bugs, take it easy, and drink lots oif fluids! I have rested all week and my knee feels fine, and am now nervously awaiting Sunday morning when I will compete in my first tri event, with the same goal that I had when I joined the forum - not to com e last and have fun!!! So, that brings me nicely onto my post..... Do any of you seasoned triathletes or members who have completed recently have any tips about what I should expect and any learnings that you have had that you feel may benefit the complete novices on the forum. Will thankyou in advance if you are able to share, and I will update you Sunday evening on how I got on!! Thanks fors your the encouraging posts that you have all been posting - have read them all over the months and they have been a great motivational tool Thanks Gareth |

Thanks fors your the encouraging posts that you have all been posting - have read them all over the months and they have been a great motivational tool Thanks Gareth Get there early and set up your space so you are not rushing around. Walk through transition several times and see where your bike is compared to the Swim entrance and other places. Relax and have fun waiting for the horn. If you are wearing a wetsuit, strip the first half off immediately out of the water and get the rest when you make it to your bike. Be careful at the mount line this is where people can get hung up trying to clip in. Get off to the side to avoid the fray. Relax and have fun. Coming into T2 make sure both feet are unclipped before you try to dismount. (don't ask me why I know this is a good idea) Relax and have fun. Get after it on the run. Finish with a smile. Have fun. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Finally back from travelling got some great swims in at a full distance pool and really began to feel what my all day pace is when I swim. Now I'm back to swimming at my local 25Y pool and feel like I', cheating. Got some great runs in and I'm attempting a 40 mile ride on Sunday early AM followed by a 3 mile run. Anyone have any experience with the NJ State Tri? - David |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Troy-I'm glad your ankle is holding up. Jeff-Hope your ride went well. Ashley-That sucks! I'm glad you guys are ok. I'm sure carrying twins is tricky. You may be feeling more soreness because you ran when you were coming down with the bug and not just from taking time off. My last run before I got bronchitis was riduculously slow and I didn't recover well from it. Give yourself some rest so it doesn't become something worse. We all have downtimes form time to time and we sometimes NEED them. You'll be back at it soon and this will be a blip on the radar. Gareth-Glad to hear from you! I haven't done a full tri yet so I don't have a lot to say. I have done a couple of duathlons and I agree on the mount line. Otherwise, relax and have fun. Good luck! Let us know how it went. Scott-Hi! Dave-How long is a full distance pool. I want to swim in one too! I forgot to update you guys on my bike. I have to go to the pool directly from work if I want to get a lane and get my full workout in-which I did then ran home in a hurry to get my wheel and back to the bike shop before it closed. Since I was in a hurry I didn't take the time to try to troubleshoot anymore. When I got to the bike shop he inflated the tire and-NO BULGE! Yay-but Doh! The guy was nice enough not to treat me like and idiot, though. Anyway, problem solved. And I found out they have a group ride every tuesday. I guess the pace isn't fast but I might go one night just to socialize and because I don't know how to get to the trails and they do. It's probably easy-I just haven't tried. Also, maybe I'll pick up some bike lingo so I'll finally understand half the posts on BT. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've heard a lot of people talking about this late season flu bug. Not cool, Ashley. And I've had those "must get out now" moments in the pool too ... they're no fun at all. ***************** Have a solid weekend of training planned. Heading to the pool in about 15 minutes for whatever the coach dreams up for our hour long swim. Then 40 miles in the saddle tomorrow followed by some yard work. And a 12 mile run nice and easy on Sunday. Then I need to really pay attention to this taper I'm supposed to be on. No bike for me next week and only two swims early in the week. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() gareth73 - 2012-05-18 9:18 AM Stay 2 meters to the outside of the swim turn buoys. Faster swimmers will go over the top of you there (well they did for me). Smile and thank the spectators that cheer and encourage. It will make you both feel Good Smile and thank the volunteers. Bob's your uncle ( attempt at Welsh hummor) it'll be over so fast you'll be looking forward to the next one. Hay's in the barn (attempt at VT hummor). You'll do great. Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry for being absent lately. Good news. Went for my first run today since April 16th, 1 mile. Used some of the techniques my coach has discussed with me. I liked the results and the calf's held up. I'm hoping that now I can actually start working with my coach. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Garet Here's my .02 Take with a grain of salt as I have only done 2 outside tri's! Drive or ride the course? Expect the unexpected. After you rack your bike try to simulate coming out of the water and find your spot. Repeat for T2 |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Craig-Great news on the injury recovery! Scott-Good luck tomorrow! Remember whatever pain you feel you'll be making your competitors feel it too. Let us know how it goes. Got a bike ride in this morning. The climbing is feeling easier and I feel stronger. I think I might increase distances on my plan because I feel too good after I ride. I also got about half my planned yoga done. 2nd week in a row I haven't finished it. I can't get my head into it lately. It takes a certain calmness I seem to be lacking. I need to work on that because it really haelps prevent some of my chronic injuries. Hope everyone is having a good weekend!! |
