Subject: RE: HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Swim
Well, since I started this mess I feel I should reply so that it can help someone else who has the same issue.

Yesterday I did my first Olympic. I'll write another post about that. Of course with the Oly you have to swim a full mile. I did an open water swim class a few weeks ago and it went great. Did it with no wetsuit and felt like a million $$$.

Yesterday I did the same thing. That was my plan. I did two warmup swims and felt fine. But as I stood there getting closer, I have to admit I was getting a little nervous. I had convinced myself that I was not going to panic. I CAN SWIM! Like the announcer said. "If you can swim, you can swim". I can swim. I wasn't overly nervous but I guess just anxious.

I did the smart thing and stayed to the back and right. Gun went off and I started. The one thing that the OWS coach stressed over and over, "Start slow". So I started slow. I didn't want to freak like the last two times. I felt fine. Everything went fine for the first 100 yards or so. Then I had a tiny nervous section. For some reason I got this weird feeling, It happened the other two times too. I think its just realized that your feet can't touch and you are way out there. I have this sudden thought of "oh no, I really can't do this". So I doggy paddled for about 10 seconds. Then it was back to freestyle. not that this is a major newflash, but for me freestyle takes way less energy that doggy paddle or treading water. So I started to Freestyle again and said to myself, "you're not really out of breath, if you are slow down, you're doing fine". And thats just what I did. I got into a ryhthm and everythign went fine. I felt good. I realized after my tiny tiny nervous session that"I can do this, cause I can swim'. Everythign after that went fine. I swam the entire thing freestyle only stopping once cause my goggle were so foggy I needed to stop to see where I was going. And another time because some girl decided to park her Kayak in front of me. . I did the whole 1 mile swim freestyle in 39 minutes. I got out of the water like I had won the race.

The moral of the story other the all of the obvious (Don't give up, you can do it etc...), is that something as stupid as a missized wetsuit almost made me give up. I love what the announcer said 'if you can swim, you can swim". Everyone told me to get some OWS practice in, so I did. If you're having trouble with somethign, here is the place to air it out. Someone here has gone through it. Hope this helps someone.

Now I'm onto another post to find out why my quads keep locking up after the bike...
