Subject: RE: Holidays approach, where will you sit?ChipmunkHeart - 2005-10-14 8:15 PM there is always one night where my mom and I stay up and drink way to much wine and talk about boys and I try not to a heart attack that I'm hearing details about her sex life, and one night when my dad and I stay up and talk about boys and he tries not to have a heart attack that he's hearing details about my dating life. At least once over the weekend my middle brother and I will get into a screaming match ( we both get along great in DC...but when get around our parents, we totally revert to being 7 years old) and everyone will get pissed, and then will all drink some more. . Sheeesh--are we siblings and just don't know it? You have described my holidays at the ancestral home almost EXACTLY (except that instead of relationship talk with my stepdad, we have a sitdown at the kitchen table where he explains to me that I could make three times my current salary if I would come work for him as a paralegal. Where is that bottle again? ), and they take place in Minnesota. That's just bizarre--could it be that the whole state of people drink like fishes and call it celebrating the birth of the Christ child? This year....Thanksgiving with friends here unless I bow to pressure and head to MN, which may happen, b/c my son is with his dad for Christmas this year. I'm not going to MN, b/c it would stink to be there with all the tribe of his cousins and without him. It'll be great for him to see that side of his family, I know. I, of course, am concocting ever more elaborate diversionary plans, so as not to wallow in self-pity. Friends have invited me to Mexico and I'm trying like crazy to see some way to afford it (see the 3x salary as a paralegal piece above. I have a frikkin' master's degree, how can I be so broke?? ). Diving somewhere warm would be good, I'd just pretend it was any other day. Dunno though. When my son gets back home, we'll go to meet my parents in FL for a couple of days and have a belated Christmas. It will work out. |
