Subject: RE: Do you find yourself losing interest in other sports?I came from a 15 year obessesion with just racing bicycles (road, mtn, and cyclocross ) and it made me a little bitter. I did not do anything for 12 of those years besides ride my bike 11 months out of the year. I got burnt out on the scene by doing the same races and dealing with the same donkeys every weekend. I then started indoor rock climbing and skiing in the winter. Took up hiking the 4,000 foot mtns in NH, and then decided to try this tri thing this year. So I say do not become consumed by tri training. Unless you are on the edge of becoming pro doing other things will only help IMO. I still ride all my bikes and not just on the road. I still hike and skiing is what winter is all about. For me outdoor sports are fun. Yes, I will focus on tri training for the majority of the spring, summer, and early fall, but I will also take time to go on a few hikes, play some basketball...do some different fun things. Those 15 years of narrow minded training change my perspective on life and I know I missed out on a lot of other things. I do not regret it because I did pretty well at it for someone who also had to work 40+ hours a week and I am still in love with bicycles, but there is more.......wait, maybe that is why I jumped into this tri thing. |
