Subject: RE: Les MiserablesFinally saw this today... I've seen the musical 9 times in 3 different countries, so I guess you could say I'm a fan. I loved it... was a crying mess at the end of the movie as well as when Eponine passed. Jackman and Hathaway were fantastic, although I didn't love Jackman's "Bring Him Home," I thought he belted it too much; the song is a prayer and not really a belting song. Otherwise, he was super. Russell Crowe's voice just didn't quite stand up to the other actors and I didn't find him convincing as the resolute Javert. I normally don't care much for Cosette's character, but Seyfried pulled a lot of emotion out of a role which normally is just "there," if you know what I mean. I think I got so much more emotional than I normally do due to the closeups, which made me, at least, connect a lot more with the characters. I didn't love that song they added, "Suddenly." A lovely thing for me and other Les Miz fans was that Colm Wilkinson, who originated the role of Valjean both in London and on Broadway, and for whose voice "Bring Him Home" was written, played the role of the Bishop of Digne, and was also included in the last scene of the movie. That was a great surprise and a nice touch. Edited by tealeaf 2013-01-12 7:58 PM
