you could use a tricycle, if you were so inclined.  I normally see a guy doing these group rides wearing the following outfit:

 

dress slacks

motorcycle-ish boots

button down dress shirt

backpack, worn on the front

downhill helmet

gardening gloves

 

I don't know what distance he does, but I've seen him on almost all rides, even the centuries I've done.  My guess is he does at least a metric century.  I can't remember, but I don't recall seeing him on a road bike.

I guess my question would be about being in the aero position not the bike itself. I would not want to be upright on a tri bike for that long.
