Even though the wallet sucked, that description really makes me smile.  

He's 90 and still at it! Even though his gifts are all like that, I look forward to his packages every year because of the heart that goes into them. If he had a million dollars he would give it away!

At the time I always thought my Grandma gave the worst presents. She always gave us socks and underwear. We always opened those last because we knew what was in the soft shapeless packages. Now that she is gone, I can't walk past a Hane's display in Macy's without thinking fondly of Grandma!

i remember getting underoos one year.....when i was 16. i think they were meant for my cousin, who was half my age, but i digress...

I was given a plastic shopping bag that had its own little bag to fold it into last year - rather a bizarre gift.

My mum also bought my OH a slow cooker and a wine rack for christmas even though when she had mentioned it I did ask her not to because they wouldn't get used and we don't need them, although obviously we appreciated the thought. Needless to say both are in their packaging in their garag. I think I may re-gift the slow cooker back to mum this year

Like others, my grandmother had so many grandkids to buy for that she would package odd things, new wire hangers, socks, old christmas cards arranged into a book.  We always opened these gifts on Christmas eve.  Oddly enough, I looked forward to them as I got older, because it was neat to see what she would come up with.  Every once in a while we would also get a beautiful handmade quilt.  I think of her when ever I use it. 

My mother one year gave me a fire proof document safe.  This was barely big enough to hold anything...I think it was on sale at Costco where she worked, and she needed to get me something.

My great aunt was hilarious. She gave my sister-in-law a tarnished salt shaker (half full of salt from 10 years ago). And the pepper shaker the next year. I think I may have gotten an old candy dish. I laugh everytime I see the dish. Like many of you, I will very much miss opening gifts from her this year.
